Let spt (n) denote the total number of appearances of smallest parts in the partitions of n. Recently, Andrews showed how spt (n) is related to the second rank moment, and proved some surprising Ramanujan-type congruences mod 5, 7 and 13. We prove a generalization of these congruences using known relations between rank and crank moments. We obtain explicit Ramanujan-type congruences for spt (n) mod ℓ for ℓ = 11, 17, 19, 29, 31 and 37. Recently, Bringmann and Ono proved that Dyson's rank function has infinitely many Ramanujan-type congruences. Their proof is non-constructive and utilizes the theory of weak Maass forms. We construct two explicit nontrivial examples mod 11 using elementary congruences between rank moments and half-integer weight Hecke eigenforms.

Abstract By conducting continuous weight-gain measurements from 500 to 1300 C on a variety of Fe-Al, Fe-Cr-Al, Ni-Al and Co-Al alloys in oxygen at 100 torr and examining the reaction products which form, reasons for the enexpected ineffectiveness of preferential aluminum oxidation have been explored. With Fe-4.4 percent Al and Fe-12 percent Al, there are two different regions of parabolic growth- these are associated with the appearance of γ-A12O3 below 900 C and α-Al2O3 above. The latter is normally more protective but possesses a greater tendency for cracking and spalling; adding 24.6 percent chromium promotes its formation at lower temperatures. With Ni-5.0 percent Al, two displaced regions are also found; here, nickel penetrates alumina to provide intermediate NiO · Al2O3 and an outer layer of NiO. With Co-4 percent Al, somewhat less cobalt penetrates γ-Al2O3 to provide CoQ · Al2O3 and an outer layer of Co3O4. When both CoO and α-Al2O3 are stable phases, the latter grows mainly by internal oxidation and offers little protection.

A method for constructing densely defined lower semi-continuous weights on C*-algebras is presented. The method can be used to construct a "dual weight" on the C*-crossed product A×αG of a C*-dynamical system (A,G,α), starting from a relatively α-invariant densely defined lower semi-continuous weight on A. As an application we show that the Haar measure on the quantum E(2) group is a C*-dual weight.

AbstractFor a positive continuous weight function ν on an open subset G of CN, let Hv(G) and Hv0(G) denote the Banach spaces (under the weighted supremum norm) of all holomorphic functions f on G such that ν f is bounded and ν f vanishes at infinity, respectively. We address the biduality problem as to when Hν(G) is naturally isometrically isomorphic to Hν0(G)**, and show in particular that this is the case whenever the closed unit ball in Hν0(G) in compact-open dense in the closed unit ball of Hν(G).

We extend the work of Skowron et al. (AIJ, 2016) by considering the parameterized complexity of the following problem. We are given a set of items and a set of agents, where each agent assigns an integer utility value to each item. The goal is to find a set of k items that these agents would collectively use. For each such collective set of items, each agent provides a score that can be described using an OWA (ordered weighted average) operator and we seek a set with the highest total score. We focus on the parameterization by the number of agents and we find numerous fixed-parameter tractability results (however, we also find some W[1]-hardness results). It turns out that most of our algorithms even apply to the setting where each agent has an integer weight.
