Abstract While it took over 70 years for the telephone to reach 50% of U.S. households, it took only 14 years for the cellphone, and 6 years for the MP3 player. Aging takes place in the context of a rapidly evolving technological landscape. What are the implications of such radical and rapid changes for how we age? And how can existing and emerging technologies help support aging adults’ health, wellbeing, social connectivity, and cognition? This talk will explore these issues, starting with the “digital divide” between younger and older adults, the reasons for this divide, and interventions to close the gap. The potential of emerging technologies to support older adults will be summarized, as well as potential pitfalls in the design and implementation of these technologies. The talk will conclude with speculation on the future of the digital divide and whether it can ever be entirely eliminated.

The paper adopts a method of a low speed processer and FPGA based hardware accelerator SOC units to develop the MP3 player, added with some peripheral devices. The experimental results show that the system has implemented the basic functions of the MP3 player, having its own advantage on increasing the decoding speed and reducing the system consumption. The system is convenient to redesign for more function in the future because its designed based on FPGA. In conclusion, it has a wide application prospect.

Purpose To provide an overview of communication characteristics exhibited by individuals with Angelman Syndrome (AS) and special considerations associated with the design and implementation of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) programs. Method Results of recent studies exploring individuals' uses of AAC are reviewed, with particular emphasis on factors related to individuals' acceptance and successful uses of AAC systems. Results Not applicable Conclusion Despite their inconsistent access to practices previously found to foster individuals' acceptance of AAC systems, individuals with AS demonstrate the ability to use AAC systems, including high-tech AAC devices, successfully.
