At the beginning of the third millennium, we are facing one of the most important transition challenges: to build an electronic society. In that movement, EC (Electronic Commerce) represents one of the major driving forces that survived two big failures in the past, represented by EDI (1980s) and “dotcom era” (1990s). Despite different network technologies, EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) over OSI (Open Systems Interconnections) vs. dotcom over the Internet both left out of the e-business too many companies (e.g. most of SMEs, Small-to-Medium Enterprises). After disillusionment and failure analysis, new expansion of EC is taking place, especially in the form of B2B. In such circumstances there is a lot of heterogeneity between business processes, supported applications and associated data on one side and different hardware, operating systems, database systems, network infrastructure, etc. on the other side, that make huge difficulties and barriers in achieving the full potential of EC (Medjahed et al., 2003; Kajan & Stoimenov, 2005; Hepp, 2006). Similar situation is taking place inside companies where A2A (Application-to-Application) costs for data integration and access software were about $2.5 billion in 2007 and are going to grow further (Bernstein & Hass, 2008).

This article reviews various mechanisms in languages and operating systems for deterministic real-time computing. Open-architecture systems will be defined and their applications in manufacturing will be addressed. Market directions for open-architecture manufacturing systems will be surveyed. Performance issues based on real-time, reliability, and safety will be discussed relating to manufacturing factory automation designed and implemented with component-based, plug-and-play open-architecture.

The article deals with a two-channel queuing system with a Poisson incoming call flow, in which the application processing time on each of the devices is different. Such models are used, in particular, when describing the operation of the system for selecting service requests in a number of operating systems. A complex system characteristic was introduced at the time of service endings on at least one of the devices, including the queue length, the remaining service time on the occupied device, and the time since the beginning of the current period of employment. This characteristic determines the state of the system at any time. Recurrence relations are obtained that connect this characteristic with its marginal values when there is no queue in the system. The method of introducing additional events was chosen as one of the main methods for analyzing the model. The relationships presented in this article can be used for analysis of the average characteristics of this system, as well as in the process of its simulation. Summarizing the results of work on multichannel systems with an arbitrary number of servicing devices will significantly reduce the time required for simulating complex systems described by sets of multichannel queuing systems.

Abstract The real estate market is an open system, which implies that it is able to exchange signals with other open systems and dynamic systems. The evolution of a market system over time can be described mathematically. If the system's sensitivity threshold to external stimuli is exceeded, it becomes destabilized and moves from a near-balanced state to a state that is far from equilibrium. Those dynamic processes often induce key changes in the system's trajectory of evolution. In search of equilibrium, the system becomes transformed in a process of discontinuous and discrete changes in state variables. The above statement constitutes the research hypothesis in this article. In this study, an attempt was made to develop a mathematical model for visualizing the evolutionary path of the real estate market in the form of continuous changes interrupted by discontinuous changes. The qualitative transformation of the system will be evaluated with the use of the catastrophe theory.
