Thermoelectric technology applied in vehicle has become significantly essential due to the global energy crisis and the environmental protection issues. A novelty energy efficient technology called localized air-conditioning (LAC) powered by thermoelectric generator (TEG), i.e., TEG-powered LAC, is proposed in order to better utilize the generated power of TEG, only then will the fuel economy improvement be achieved. This system which has little impact on the original automotive electrical system is basically comprised of LAC, TEG, converter, and battery. The TEG can directly convert thermal energy to electrical energy to power the novelty energy-efficient air-conditioning system called LAC. The submodels of LAC and TEG are built and integrated into a heavy-duty vehicle to quantitatively assess its performance by simulation analysis. The results indicate that the novelty TEG-powered LAC system can work normally with high efficiency and improve the fuel economy by 3.7%. Therefore, this system resolves the problem of proper use of the TEG's power and provides a fully new perspective to substitute the mechanical loads to engine with electrical loads powered by TEG to improve the fuel economy with much more practicality and rationality.

Energy consumption for air conditioning systems (air conditioning system) increased along with the increasing need for fresh air and comfortable in the room especially apartments. FAC system (Floor Air Conditioning) is growing because it is more energy efficient than CAC (Ceiling Air Conditioning) system. However, the position of the AC supply is on the lower level at the FAC system causes draft discomfort becomes greater as air supply closer to the occupants so that thermal comfort can be reduced. Heat mixture of windows, exterior walls, kitchen, and occupants in the studio apartment affect thermal comfort in the room too. This study aims to determine the position of the AC supply which has the best thermal comfort of FAC system in the studio apartment. It can be done by analyzing ADPI (Air Diffusion Performance Index), the distribution of air temperature, wind speed, RH (Relative Humidity), and DR (Draft Risk) to change the position of the AC supply supported by CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulation. This result prove that AC position 2 (on wall near the kitchen) is more comfortable than AC position 1 (on the bathroom wall) because AC position 2 away from occupied areas, thereby reducing the occurrence of draught discomfort.

Delphi Corporation is developing Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) technology for applications in the transportation and residential markets. Delphi is developing this technology for the automotive and heavy duty trucking markets primarily as an on-board Auxiliary Power Unit (APU). In the first application of this program, the APU will be used to power “hotel loads” i.e. an electric air conditioning system without the need for operating the vehicle’s engine.
