Juggler System: Hybrid Model and Implementation

Several juggling systems have been developed in order to control the dynamics of a bouncing element. This system is useful to show the behavior of elements due to impacts, as well as to have control of the trajectory followed by them based on physical principles. In this article, the description of the physical implementation of a juggler system is presented, including its movement control to achieve a specific objective. A hybrid model to analyze and predict the behavior of both the platform and the ball is studied and implemented. Finally, a multi-agent implementation is proposed to synchronize its movements and show how a group of oscillating systems are able to reach a common work point.

This paper develops a hybrid model which provides a unified framework for the following four kinds of reasoning: 1) Zadeh's fuzzy approximate reasoning; 2) truth-qualification uncertain reasoning with respect to fuzzy propositions; 3) fuzzy default reasoning (proposed, in this paper, as an extension of Reiter's default reasoning); and 4) truth-qualification uncertain default reasoning associated with fuzzy statements (developed in this paper to enrich fuzzy default reasoning with uncertain information). Our hybrid model has the following characteristics: 1) basic uncertainty is estimated in terms of words or phrases in natural language and basic propositions are fuzzy; 2) uncertainty, linguistically expressed, can be handled in default reasoning; and 3) the four kinds of reasoning models mentioned above and their combination models will be the special cases of our hybrid model. Moreover, our model allows the reasoning to be performed in the case in which the information is fuzzy, uncertain and partial. More importantly, the problems of sharing the information among heterogeneous fuzzy, uncertain and default reasoning models can be solved efficiently by using our model. Given this, our framework can be used as a basis for information sharing and exchange in knowledge-based multi-agent systems for practical applications such as automated group negotiations. Actually, to build such a foundation is the motivation of this paper.

Abstract Openness is a challenging property that may characterize multi-agent systems (MAS). It refers to their ability to deal with entities leaving and joining agent society over time. This property makes the MAS behaviour complex and difficult to study and analyze, hence the need for a representative model allowing its understanding. In this context, many models were defined in the literature and we propose to classify them into three categories: structural models, functional models and interactional models. The existing models were proposed either for representing structural openness or for modelling functional or interactional ones independently. But, none of them was oriented to represent MAS openness in a global way while considering its three aspects at once. Besides, each one was defined in order to realize a specific objective and in a particular domain of application. In this paper, we propose an evolving KAGR graph. The latter provides a common understanding of openness and unifies its structural, functional and interactional aspects in a generic way. Our model is finally tested and validated on a multi-agent rescue simulator.

One of the most fatal natural disasters in Batu City was a landslide. The percentage of casualties if directly affected by landslides is 47%. This number is quite large when compared to other natural disasters. Even though the potential of the tsunami is the biggest, when compared to the intensity of the occurrence, landslides are the most common and most often cause fatalities. One of the causes of many fatalities in natural disasters is the lack of preparedness management. For that reason the need to develop a technology that can support to reduce fatalities in landslides is needed. One of the technologies used to prevent the number of fatalities caused by natural disasters is to use multi-agent system. One of the advantages of an agent is use Belief-Desire-Intention (BDI) models for building the Muiti-Agent Systems (MAS). The specific objective of this study was to model a simulated natural disaster landslide using the Prometheus Methodology. Evaluation is done by generating a model using jackCode and implementing it using the Java Agent Development Framework. The results of this study indicate that a model made using the Prometheus Methodology can be used as a simulation of natural disaster preparedness for landslides.

Fifteen years ago, Hall described clearly the advantages of the thin section approach to biological x-ray microanalysis, and described clearly the ratio method for quantitive analysis in such preparations. In this now classic paper, he also made it clear that the ideal method of sample preparation would involve only freezing and sectioning at low temperature. Subsequently, Hall and his coworkers, as well as others, have applied themselves to the task of direct x-ray microanalysis of frozen sections. To achieve this goal, different methodological approachs have been developed as different groups sought solutions to a common group of technical problems. This report describes some of these problems and indicates the specific approaches and procedures developed by our group in order to overcome them. We acknowledge that the techniques evolved by our group are quite different from earlier approaches to cryomicrotomy and sample handling, hence the title of our paper. However, such departures from tradition have been based upon our attempt to apply basic physical principles to the processes involved. We feel we have demonstrated that such a break with tradition has valuable consequences.
