Both transverse groove tube and twisted tape, as an alternative to traditional smooth tube in shell and tube heat exchanger, are useful techniques for the enhancement of heat transfer. In this paper, an experimental study for the combination of transverse groove tube and twisted tapes was carried out. The flow and heat transfer characteristics of heat transfer oil flowing in the transverse groove tube (TGT) fitted with continuous twisted tape (CT), discontinuous twisted tape (DT) and perforated twisted tape (PT) was investigated with the Reynolds numbers ranging from 600 to 8000, respectively. The effect of the geometrical parameters of twisted tapes on the heat transfer performance was considered. Finally, experimental correlations for friction factor and Nusselt number were developed. The comprehensive performance of heat transfer of the transverse groove tube fitted with twisted tapes was analyzed using traditional method and Entropy Generation Analysis, and the same conclusions can be obtained that the modified heat transfer enhancement tubes, TGT-CT, DT and PT, all show better effects of heat transfer enhancement than ST and ST-CT.

This paper proposes the method of the fresh air heat transfer enhancement through insert Spiral in the tube of TIEC, and researches the heat transfer enhancement and Flow resistance characteristics through experiment when the Re is 6270 - 11016 range. Through regression analysis of the experimental data, obtained the experimental correlation of the heat transfer and drag coefficient of the strengthen tube, at the same time, evaluate the performance of heat transfer enhancement using appropriate method, and give some exploratory analysis.

Heat transfer enhancement has been always a significantly interesting topic in order to develop high efficient, low cost, light weight, and small heat exchangers. The energy cost and environmental issue are also encouraging researchers to achieve better performance than the existing designs. Two of the most effective ways to achieve higher heat transfer rate in heat exchangers are using different kinds of inserts and modifying the heat exchanger tubes. There are different kinds of inserts employed in the heat exchanger tubes such as helical/twisted tapes, coiled wires, ribs/fins/baffles, and winglets. This paper presents an overview about the early studies on the improvement of the performance of thermal systems by using different kinds of inserts. Louvered strip insert had better function in backward flow compared to forward one. Modifying the shape of twisted tapes led to a higher efficiency in most of the cases excpet for perforated twisted tape and notched twisted tape. Combination of various inserts and tube with artificial roughness provided promising results. In case of using various propeller types, heat transfer enhancement was dependent on higher number of blades and blade angle and lower pitch ratio.
