This investigation considers the dynamic response of a thin, elastic spherical shell surrounded by a large body of fluid. The blast pressure is applied to the internal shell surface, and three distinct types of blast loading are considered: Decaying exponential, decreasing linear, and pure impulse. The problem considered is related to explosive-forming technology. By comparing shell motion in air with shell motion in water, it is shown that stresses may be substantially reduced by water immersion.
