The platinum(II) complexes [PtCl(SMe2)(κ2-N,N′-L)]Cl and [PtMe(SMe2)(κ2-N,N′-L)]Cl, L = 2-C5H4NCH2NH-x-C6H4OH (x = 2, 3, or 4), have been prepared and structurally characterized. In all cases, the complexes form supramolecular polymers in the solid state by NH··Cl and OH··Cl hydrogen bonding to the chloride anion. The ligands are chiral at the amine nitrogen atom, and in all cases, the polymers are isotactic, formed by self-recognition or narcissistic self-assembly. The structures in the crystalline state all have the Me2S ligand trans to pyridyl, but in solution, the methylplatinum(II) complexes isomerise slowly to give an equilibrium with the isomers having the methyl group trans to the pyridyl donor.

Our work in the area of synthesis of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) based on organic N-oxides led to the crystallization of pyridine-4-carboxamidoxime N-oxide. Herein we report the first crystal structure of the title compound, C6H7N3O2 [systematic name: (Z)-4-(N′-hydroxycarbamimidoyl)pyridine N-oxide]. The hydroxycarbamimidoyl group is essentially coplanar with the aromatic ring, r.m.s.d. = 0.112 Å. The compound crystallizes in hydrogen-bonding layers built from the formation of strong O—H...O hydrogen bonds between the oxime oxygen atom and the oxygen atom of the N-oxide, and the formation of N—H...O hydrogen bonds between one amine nitrogen atom and the N-oxide oxygen atom. These combined build R 3 4(24) ring motifs in the crystal. The crystal structure has no π–π interactions.

AbstractWe report a new method of Thin Crystal Film deposition. In the present paper we describe the method of crystallization, structure, and optical properties of Bisbenzimidazo[2,1-a:1',2',b']anthra[2,1,9-def:6,5,10-d'e'f']-diisoquinoline-6,9-dion (mixture with cis-isomer) (abbreviated DBI PTCA) sulfonation product. The Thin Crystal Film has a thickness of 200-1000 nm, with anisotropic optical properties such as refraction and absorption indices. X-ray diffraction data evidences a lyotropic liquid crystalline state in liquid phase and crystalline state in solid film. Anisotropic optical properties of the film make it useful in optical devices, e.g. liquid crystal displays.

The solubility diagram of the NiSeO3-SeO2-H2O system at 25 °C was studied, and on its basis, Ni(HSeO3)2.2 H2O was prepared. This selenite and NiSeO3.2 H2O were investigated by infrared absorption spectroscopy and by electronic reflectance spectroscopy and their magnetic properties were determined. Based on the infrared spectra, the force constants of the selenium-oxygen bonds were determined and the hydrogen bonding was characterized. The electronic reflectance spectra and the magnetic parameters indicate an octahedral arrangement of the coordination sphere of the nickel cation and characterize the selenite anion as a ligand that in the spectrochemical series assumes a position between the fluoride anion and water and in the nephelauxetic series, between ethylenediamine and the chloride anion.
