Abstract Let L be a number field. For a given prime p, we define integers α p L $ \alpha_{p}^{L} $ and β p L $ \beta_{p}^{L} $ with some interesting arithmetic properties. For instance, β p L $ \beta_{p}^{L} $ is equal to 1 whenever p does not ramify in L and α p L $ \alpha_{p}^{L} $ is divisible by p whenever p is wildly ramified in L. The aforementioned properties, although interesting, follow easily from definitions; however a more interesting application of these invariants is the fact that they completely characterize the Dedekind zeta function of L. Moreover, if the residue class mod p of α p L $ \alpha_{p}^{L} $ is not zero for all p then such residues determine the genus of the integral trace.

AbstractLet P and Q be two points on an elliptic curve defined over a number field K. For $$\alpha \in {\text {End}}(E)$$ α ∈ End ( E ) , define $$B_\alpha $$ B α to be the $$\mathcal {O}_K$$ O K -integral ideal generated by the denominator of $$x(\alpha (P)+Q)$$ x ( α ( P ) + Q ) . Let $$\mathcal {O}$$ O be a subring of $${\text {End}}(E)$$ End ( E ) , that is a Dedekind domain. We will study the sequence $$\{B_\alpha \}_{\alpha \in \mathcal {O}}$$ { B α } α ∈ O . We will show that, for all but finitely many $$\alpha \in \mathcal {O}$$ α ∈ O , the ideal $$B_\alpha $$ B α has a primitive divisor when P is a non-torsion point and there exist two endomorphisms $$g\ne 0$$ g ≠ 0 and f so that $$f(P)= g(Q)$$ f ( P ) = g ( Q ) . This is a generalization of previous results on elliptic divisibility sequences.

Abstract Let $ (G_n)_{n=0}^{\infty } $ be a nondegenerate linear recurrence sequence whose power sum representation is given by $ G_n = a_1(n) \alpha _1^n + \cdots + a_t(n) \alpha _t^n $ . We prove a function field analogue of the well-known result in the number field case that, under some nonrestrictive conditions, $ |{G_n}| \geq ( \max _{j=1,\ldots ,t} |{\alpha _j}| )^{n(1-\varepsilon )} $ for $ n $ large enough.

A degeneration of K3 surfaces (over the complex number field) is a proper holomorphic map π: X→Δ from a three dimensional complex manifold to a disc, such that, for t ≠ 0, the fibres Xt = π-1(t) are smooth K3 surfaces (i.e. surfaces Xt with trivial canonical class KXt = 0 and dim H1(Xt, Oxt) = 0).

Abstract We develop methods for constructing explicit generators, modulo torsion, of the $K_3$ -groups of imaginary quadratic number fields. These methods are based on either tessellations of hyperbolic $3$ -space or on direct calculations in suitable pre-Bloch groups and lead to the very first proven examples of explicit generators, modulo torsion, of any infinite $K_3$ -group of a number field. As part of this approach, we make several improvements to the theory of Bloch groups for $ K_3 $ of any field, predict the precise power of $2$ that should occur in the Lichtenbaum conjecture at $ -1 $ and prove that this prediction is valid for all abelian number fields.

Let E be an elliptic curve — defined over a number field K — without complex multiplication and with good ordinary reduction at all the primes above a rational prime p ≥ 5. We construct a pairing on the dual p∞-Selmer group of E over any strongly admissible p-adic Lie extension K∞/K under the assumption that it is a torsion module over the Iwasawa algebra of the Galois group G = Gal(K∞/K). Under some mild additional hypotheses, this gives an algebraic functional equation of the conjectured p-adic L-function. As an application, we construct completely faithful Selmer groups in case the p-adic Lie extension is obtained by adjoining the p-power division points of another non-CM elliptic curve A.

Let 𝔬 be the ring of integers in a number field. An integral quadratic form over 𝔬 is called regular if it represents all integers in 𝔬 that are represented by its genus. In [13,14] Watson proved that there are only finitely many inequivalent positive definite primitive integral regular ternary quadratic forms over ℤ. In this paper, we generalize Watson's result to totally positive regular ternary quadratic forms over [Formula: see text]. We also show that the same finiteness result holds for totally positive definite spinor regular ternary quadratic forms over [Formula: see text], and thus extends the corresponding finiteness results for spinor regular quadratic forms over ℤ obtained in [1,3].
