A case of intralobar pulmonary sequestration presenting with recurrent episodes of infection is reported. Pulmonary sequestration is a rare congenital malformation characterized by accessory lung tissue with no direct connection to the tracheobronchial tree and is supplied by an aberrant systemic artery. The aberrant artery is key to both diagnosis and treatment. The correct diagnosis may be suspected on clinical grounds and should be confirmed by identifying the lesion and aberrant artery on imaging studies. Surgical resection is curative, taking particular care not to injure the aberrant artery, which may result in devastating intraoperative hemorrhage.

Abstract- Pulmonary sequestration is a relatively rare congenital malformation characterized by an abnormal mass of dysplastic lung tissue. This mass is separated from the bronchopulmonary tree and vascularized by an aberrant systemic artery. Pulmonary sequestration common symptoms are chest pain, persistent dry cough, shortness of breath, hemoptysis, and recurrent attractions of pneumonia. We report a case of a 45-year-old man who suffered from recurrent cough for one year and bleeding with pain in the left chest. He was eventually diagnosed with intralobar pulmonary sequestration. Surgical removal of the sequestration generally has good outcomes.

Bronchopulmonary sequestration (BPS) is a rare congenital anomaly of airway in which a portion of the lung receives blood supply from an abnormal systemic artery. A 72-year-old woman had been suffering from recurrent left lower back pain and pneumonia for more than 10 years. She was diagnosed with intralobar type of BPS by computed- tomography angiogram and underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy. BPS is a rare congenital abnormality that can accompany repeated pulmonary infection. Although asymptomatic patients may consider lifelong observation, surgical treatment of patients with symptoms is a curative option with minimal morbidity. To improve quality of the life for patients, active surgical treatment should be considered.

AbstractWe describe an infant of 8 months who presented with left ventricular dilation due to an extensive intralobar sequestration of the right lung. The pulmonary sequestration was associated with a patent arterial duct and a right aortic arch. Percutaneous closure of the anomalous aberrant artery feeding the sequestrated lung resulted in prompt regression of the left ventricular enlargement.
