Systems trying to solve mobility issues in cities, such as high levels of accidents and traffic congestion, have been developed worldwide. Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) services focused on urban public transport are an option contributing to solve such issues. A few intermediate cities in the Latin American context have developed some of these ITS services, which are mainly based on a tracking system for public transport vehicles. Such tracking systems have great limitations in terms of coverage, availability, and operational cost. In addition, they are commonly isolated mobility solutions, which cannot be easily integrated with other mobility services in the city because they are not based on an ITS architecture. In order to improve public transportation systems in intermediate cities, we proposed the development of an IoT-based public vehicle tracking system, using LoRa (Long Range) and ITS services. In this research, we developed the proposed system as a proof of concept. We designed and executed some experiments, in order to adjust parameters of the LoRa technology and to test its operation. This article presents the methods we followed for developing the proof-of-concept model, a description of the experiments, and their results. The results lead to conclude that the LoRa technology and an IoT-based system are adequate for implementation of a mobility service such as the one we propose, once important technical restrictions related mainly to Line of Sight (LoS) are considered. Key aspects for implementation were also identified for deploying the service (as a prototype) in the city of Popayán.

This paper presents the innovative emergency Sanitation Operation System (eSOS) concept created to improve the entire emergency sanitation chain and provide decent sanitation to people in need. The eSOS kit is described including its components: eSOS smart toilets, an intelligent excreta collection vehicle-tracking system, a decentralized excreta treatment facility, an emergency sanitation coordination center, and an integrated eSOS communication and management system. The paper further deals with costs and the eSOS business model, its challenges, applicability and relevance. The first application, currently taking place in the Philippines will bring valuable insights on the future of the eSOS smart toilet. It is expected that eSOS will bring changes to traditional disaster relief management.

Public transportation is one of the most critical needs for a city, including in Indonesia. The fast and dynamic movement of society makes public transportation expected to accommodate the needs of city residents to move more quickly and efficiently. Available public transport can also reduce congestion because many city residents are switching from their private vehicles. Many cities in Indonesia are competing to develop their public transportation to modernize the life of the town. Problems will arise if the city government does not learn from history in planning the development of public transport in the city. This study aims to examine the role of historical science in the development of urban public transportation in Indonesia. The method used in this research is descriptive-qualitative through literature review by analyzing data and information according to the topic of the research topic. The data and information are sourced from 20 journal articles and five credible online portal sites with published years between 2019-2021. The result of this study is the role of historical science in the development of urban public transportation in Indonesia as a reference for city governments to reorganize their transportation systems in the future. This research has research limitations on the development of urban public transport in Indonesia in the 21st century. The researcher recommends further research on the role and benefits of historical science in improving urban public transportation in Indonesia to complement some lacking things from this research. At the same time was adding to the scientific treasures for many people, significant position holders in city government to be more intense in using historical knowledge as an essential study to encourage a better civilization of a city by improving the public transportation system.
