Considering the communication requirements of different monitoring services and the performance of different access networks, to ensure the quality of service and reliability of sensor networks, we propose an access network selection algorithm based on a quality-of-service (QoS) guarantee. According to the service requirements, the attributes that affect the terminal access options are determined. Then, utility functions are designed for normalizing the attribute values of the network. In addition, we construct a weight calculation model that combines subjective and objective factors. Finally, the algorithm calculates the relative closeness between each pair of networks by the technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution (TOPSIS) and sorts the candidate networks to obtain the best candidate network of each monitoring terminal to access. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively meet the communication needs of different monitoring services, ensures network reliability, and can improve the utilization rate of network resources.

At present, most of researches on network selection algorithms are focused on single access. To support seamless mobility and provide better quality of service in heterogeneous wireless networks, this paper proposes a network selection algorithm with parallel transmission based on MADM. In the algorithm, we firstly determine all available wireless networks and consider every subset of these networks as a network scheme. Then we obtain aggregation attributes of every scheme and determine the alternative network schemes. Finally, we build the decision matrix of multiple attributes and determine the optimal scheme by using GRA. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can obviously improve user quality of service, improve user throughput, reduce power consumption and price cost per bit.

In the next generation of heterogeneous wireless networks (HWNs), a large number of different radio access technologies (RATs) will be integrated into a common network. In this type of networks, selecting the most optimal and promising access network (AN) is an important consideration for overall networks stability, resource utilization, user satisfaction, and quality of service (QoS) provisioning. This paper proposes a general scheme to solve the access network selection (ANS) problem in the HWN. The proposed scheme has been used to present and design a general multicriteria software assistant (SA) that can consider the user, operator, and/or the QoS view points. Combined fuzzy logic (FL) and genetic algorithms (GAs) have been used to give the proposed scheme the required scalability, flexibility, and simplicity. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme and SA have better and more robust performance over the random-based selection.

In order to provide better service for the users, this paper put forwards a new algorithm for network selection. Firstly, the algorithm acquires weights’ vectors by analytic hierarchy process (AHP), G-1, entropy weighting method (EW) and variable coefficient (VC). Then combine the weights’ vector according to the similarity of different methods. Finally select the target network with the best performance. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can provide subscribers with better quality of service.
