Cloud computing is an emerging field of computation. As the data centers consume large amount of power, it increases the system overheads as well as the carbon dioxide emission increases drastically. The main aim is to maximize the resource utilization by minimizing the power consumption. However, the greatest usages of resources does not mean that there has been a right use of energy. Various resources which are idle, also consumes a significant amount of energy. So we have to keep minimum resources idle. Current studies have shown that the power consumption due to unused computing resources is nearly 1 to 20%. So, the unused resources have been assigned with some of the tasks to utilize the unused period. In the present paper, it has been suggested that the energy saving with task consolidation which has been saved the energy by minimizing the number of idle resources in a cloud computing environment. It has been achieved far-reaching experiments to quantify the performance of the proposed algorithm. The same has also been compared with the FCFSMaxUtil and Energy aware Task Consolidation (ETC) algorithm. The outcomes have shown that the suggested algorithm surpass the FCFSMaxUtil and ETC algorithm in terms of the CPU utilization and energy consumption.

Mobile cloud computing (MCC) provides various cloud computing services to mobile users. The rapid growth of MCC users requires large-scale MCC data centers to provide them with data processing and storage services. The growth of these data centers directly impacts electrical energy consumption, which affects businesses as well as the environment through carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Moreover, large amount of energy is wasted to maintain the servers running during low workload. To reduce the energy consumption of mobile cloud data centers, energy-aware host overload detection algorithm and virtual machines (VMs) selection algorithms for VM consolidation are required during detected host underload and overload. After allocating resources to all VMs, underloaded hosts are required to assume energy-saving mode in order to minimize power consumption. To address this issue, we proposed an adaptive heuristics energy-aware algorithm, which creates an upper CPU utilization threshold using recent CPU utilization history to detect overloaded hosts and dynamic VM selection algorithms to consolidate the VMs from overloaded or underloaded host. The goal is to minimize total energy consumption and maximize Quality of Service, including the reduction of service level agreement (SLA) violations. CloudSim simulator is used to validate the algorithm and simulations are conducted on real workload traces in 10 different days, as provided by PlanetLab.

There are various enhancements in the world of technology. Among that Cloud computing delivers numerous amenities over the Internet. It employs data centers which comprise hardware and software provision for loading, servers, and systems. The primary reason for the popularity of Cloud computing is consistent performance, economical operation, prompt accessibility, rapid scaling and much more. The chief cause for concern in cloud computing are the errors that happen either in the software or the hardware and energy consumption on a large scale. The clients pay only for resources utilized by them and assets which are accessible during the computing in a cloud setting. In the environment of cloud computing, Task scheduling is significant concepts which can be used to minimize the energy and time spent. The algorithms in Task scheduling might employ various measures toward dispense preference to subtasks that may generate many schedules to the divergent computing structure. Moreover, consumption of energy could be dissimilar for every source which is allocated to a job. This present research explores that the PSO-CA based energy aware task scheduling method can predict with the aim to enhance the resource distribution.

Energy saving in a Cloud Computing environment is a multidimensional challenge, which can directly decrease the in-use costs and carbon dioxide emission, while raising the system consistency. The process of maximizing the cloud computing resource utilization which brings many benefits such as better use of resources, rationalization of maintenance, IT service customization, QoS and reliable services, etc., is known as task consolidation. This article suggests the energy saving with task consolidation, by minimizing the number of unused resources in a cloud computing environment. In this article, various task consolidation algorithms such as MinIncreaseinEnergy, MaxUtilECTC, NoIdleMachineECTC, and NoIdleMachineMaxUtil are presented aims to optimize energy consumption of cloud data center. The outcomes have shown that the suggested algorithms surpass the existing ECTC and FCFSMaxUtil, MaxMaxUtil algorithms in terms of the CPU utilization and energy consumption.

Cloud computing environment is regarded as a kind of multi-tenant computing mode. With virtulization as a support technology, cloud computing realizes the integration of multiple workloads in one server through the package and seperation of virtual machines. Aiming at the contradiction between the heterogeneous applications and uniform shared resource pool, using the idea of bin packing, the multidimensional resource scheduling problem is analyzed in this paper. We carry out some example analysis in one-dimensional resource scheduling, two-dimensional resource schduling and three-dimensional resource scheduling. The results shows that the resource utilization of cloud data centers will be improved greatly when the resource sheduling is conducted after reorganizing rationally the heterogeneous demands.

The basic concept of cloud computing is based on “Pay per Use”. The user can use the remote resources on demand for computing on payment basis. The on-demand resources of the user are provided according to a Service Level Agreement (SLA). In real time, the tasks are associated with a time constraint for which they are called deadline based tasks. The huge number of deadline based task coming to a cloud datacenter should be scheduled. The scheduling of this task with an efficient algorithm provides better resource utilization without violating SLA. In this chapter, we discussed the backfilling algorithm and its different types. Moreover, the backfilling algorithm was proposed for scheduling tasks in parallel. Whenever the application environment is changed the performance of the backfilling algorithm is changed. The chapter aims implementation of different types of backfilling algorithms. Finally, the reader can be able to get some idea about the different backfilling scheduling algorithms that are used for scheduling deadline based task in cloud computing environment at the end.
