A literature review is presented specifically on the photovoltaic (PV) as a distributed generation (DG) integration approach and the extensiveness through renewable energy (RE) assessment criteria in current green building rating system (GBRS) to: delineate for further classification in terms of installed-capacity; identify the RE applications’ intent / aim; and recommendation for PV-type DG (PV-DG) expansion needs. The paper aims to close the gap in knowledge, by an empirical review of current RE assessment criteria and to portray the expected evolution of RE for higher installed-capacity in ensuring the government key achievement can be achieved. In considering the expansion needs in GBRS, the optimal technique for PV-DG expansion-limit would serve as a conceptual bridge between expanding mechanism and realization of the Malaysian most recent RE policy specifically on the drastically increment of RE quota. These can be achieved since various DG optimization case studies have been presented and overcome with the improvement impact on the test system, in term of power loss reduction, increased efficiency and optimal cost outcome. Future analysis as well as research direction are proposed and linked with some of the previous optimization reviews in recent literature.

Installation of distribution generation (DG) in the distribution system gains many technical benefits. To obtain more benefits, the location and size of DG must be selected with the appropriate values. This paper presents a method for optimizing location and size of DG in the distribution system based on enhanced sunflower optimization (ESFO) to minimize power loss of the system. In which, based on the operational mechanisms of the original sunflower optimization (SFO), a mutation technique is added for updating the best plant. The calculated results on the 33 nodes test system have shown that ESFO has proficiency for determining the best location and size of DG with higher quality than SFO. The compared results with the previous methods have also shown that ESFO outperforms to other methods in term of power loss reduction. As a result, ESFO is a reliable approach for the DG optimization problem.

<p><span>With the widespread of using distributed generation, the connection of DGs in the distribution system causes miscoordination between protective devices. This paper introduces the problems associated with recloser fuse miscoordination (RFM) in the presence of single and multiple DG in a radial distribution system. Two Multi objective optimization problems are presented. The first is based on technical impacts to determine the optimal size and location of DG considering system power loss reduction and enhancement the voltage profile with a certain constraints and the second is used for minimizing the operating time of all fuses and recloser with obtaining the optimum settings of fuse recloser coordination characteristics. Whale Optimizer algorithm (WOA) emulated RFM as an optimization problem. The performance of the proposed methodology is applied to the standard IEEE 33 node test system. The results show the robustness of the proposed algorithm for solving the RFM problem with achieving system power loss reduction and voltage profile enhancement.</span></p>

This paper presents a proposed function which is known as techno-economic model for optimal placement of distributed generation (DG) resources in distribution systems in order to minimize the power losses and improve voltage profile. Combined sensitivity factors (CSF), such real power loss reduction index, reactive power loss reduction index, voltage profile improvement index, and life cycle cost, and particle swarm optimization (PSO) are applied to the proposed technique to obtain the best compromise between these costs. Simulation results on IEEE 14-bus test system are presented to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed procedure.

This paper presents an optimization approach for criteria setting of Renewable Distributed Generation (DG) in the Green Building Rating System (GBRS). In this study, the total line loss reduction is analyzed and set as the main objective function in the optimization process which then a reassessment of existing criteria setting for renewable energy (RE) is proposed towards lower loss outcome. Solar photovoltaic (PV)-type DG unit (PV-DG) is identified as the type of DG used in this paper. The proposed PV-DG optimization will improve the sustainable energy performance of the green building by total line losses reduction within accepted lower losses region using Artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm. The distribution network uses bus and line data setup from selected one of each three levels of Malaysian public hospital. MATLAB simulation result shows that the PV-DG expanding capacity towards optimal scale and location provides a better outcome in minimizing total line losses within an appropriate voltage profile as compared to the current setting of PV-DG imposed in selected GBRS. Thus, reassessment of RE parameter setting and the proposed five rankings with new PV-DG setting for public hospital provides technical justification and give the best option to the green building developer for more effective RE integration.

<p>In this work Spinner Dolphin Swarm Algorithm (SDSA) has been applied to solve the optimal reactive power problem. Dolphins have numerous remarkable natural distinctiveness and living behavior such as echolocation, information interactions, collaboration, and partition of labor. Merging these natural distinctiveness and living behavior with swarm intelligence has been modeled to solve the reactive power problem. Proposed Spinner Dolphin Swarm Algorithm (SDSA) has been tested in standard IEEE 14,300 bus test system and simulation results show the projected algorithm reduced the real power loss extensively.</p>

The concept of traditional distribution networks with unidirectional power flow is weakening due to large penetration of Distributed Generation (DG). The penetration of DG may impact the operation of a distribution network in both beneficial and detrimental ways. Some of the positive impacts of DG are voltage support, power loss reduction, support of ancillary services and improved reliability, whereas negative ones include protection coordination, dynamic stability and islanding. Therefore, proper planning methods that evaluate the composite impacts, i.e. technical, economical and environmental impacts of DG integration to existing distribution networks are very much essential. This paper presents a critical review of various impacts of DG on power distribution system. For ease of reference and to facilitate better understanding this literature is categorized and discussed under five major headings.

<div data-canvas-width="34.43688268494255">In this paper chaotic predator-prey brain storm optimization (CPB) algorithm is proposed to solve optimal reactive power problem. In this work predator-prey brain storm optimization position cluster centers to perform as predators, consequently it will move towards better and better positions, while the remaining ideas perform as preys; hence get away from their adjacent predators. In the projected CPB algorithm chaotic theory has been applied in the modeling of the algorithm. In the proposed algorithm main properties of chaotic such as ergodicity and irregularity used to make the algorithm to jump out of the local optimum as well as to determine optimal parameters CPB algorithm has been tested in standard IEEE 57 bus test system and simulation results show the projected algorithm reduced the real power loss considerably.</div>

Because of increasing interest in renewable energy sources in recent times, the studies concerning integration of Distributed Generation (DG) to power grid have been increased rapidly. Apart from other benefits, loss reduction and voltage profile improvement are its salient features. Non-optimal locations of DG units may lead to increase power losses. Optimal location of DGs in power systems is vital to maximize overall system efficiency. In this approach, optimization techniques have been applied to determine the optimal allocation and impact of DG on electric power system in terms of power loss reduction are analyzed. The Newton Raphson load flow analysis has been carried out on 10 bus system using ETAP software which shows that active power losses were reduced from 3302.2 KW to 400.7 KW after the installation of 5MW.
