Camilo José Cela é considerado um dos escritores renovadores da literatura espanhola do século XX. Sua obra inova e experimenta formas e conteúdos enfatizando imagens grotescas e violentas que representam bem o contexto da Guerra Civil espanhola e suas consequências para a população. Tendo um complexo posicionamento entre a aceitação e a oposição ao governo ditatorial franquista, sua escrita se caracteriza por um realismo brutal que, literariamente, adquire o termo de “tremendismo”. O conjunto de sua obra levou-o a ganhar o Premio Nobel de literatura, tendo destaque as obras La familia de Pascual Duarte e La Colmena. Assim, este estudo procura engendrar, sucintamente, uma discussão acerca desses textos de Cela tendo em conta o esfacelamento do ser humano diante do conturbado contexto social, aspectos que vários escritores se sentiram no compromisso de demonstrar através da arte.
