Reforma luterana. História. Conflitos. In recent times, particularly after the Vatican II Ecumenical Council, there emerges and prevails the ecumenical movement, that is, the consciousness that the Church always finds itself in the process of new forms, as well and mainly, in that of the communion in the diversity based on the common following of Jesus Christ and on the evangelizing mission given by Him to his followers. For this reason, it advocates the continuity and the consolidation of the ecumenical spirit. Keywords: Catholic Church. Lutheran Reform. History. Conflicts. Ecumenism.

God’s diplomat, the pope of the ecumenical movement, but also an acerbic theologian and a difficult person: this is how journalists characterised Willem Adolf Visser ’t Hooft (1900-1985). He was one of the best-known Dutch theologians outside the Netherlands and he left his mark on the world church. Even at an early age, he made profound efforts in support of international ecumenical youth and student organisations (Dutch Student Christian Movement, YMCA and World Student Christian Federation). He led the World Council of Churches during its formative stages (from 1938), and after its formal establishment in 1948 became its first general secretary, serving until 1966. To Visser ’t Hooft, the unity of the church was both an article of faith and a pragmatic organisation of church influence in a disunited world.

AbstractThe Netherlands' Catholic Reformed text on the Church, local and universal, is an important contribution to international ecumenical discussions, informed by the particular context of the history of these churches in the low countries. This essay focuses on the importance of the theme and the method of this dialogue, and its contribution to understanding how the ecumenical movement is contextualized and communicated through the educational priorities of the churches. The essay relates this text, from a particular national dialogue, to the international Reformed Catholic dialogue and to issues of the wider ecumenical movement.
