A species of Cordyceps sensu lato associated with an adult of Tettigonia was collected in Chishui Danxia natural world heritage site, Guizhou Province, China. Following morpho-phylogenetic studies it was found to be a new species and is described as Ophiocordyceps tettigonia sp. nov. It differs from similar Ophiocordyceps species in having a unique host insect, and wide secondary ascospores. Combined sequence data from the ITS, SSU, TEF, and RPB1 gene loci also confirmed the distinctiveness of this new species.

We describe a new species, Aspidura desilvai sp. nov., closely resembling A. trachyprocta and the last addition to the genus A. ravanai, from Knuckles massif, Matale District, of Sri Lanka. The species represents the ninth species of the genus known from Sri Lanka, and is readily distinguished from all other congeners by its colour pattern, the scale nature in the ischiadic region, and morphometric characteristics specially from its ratio between the snout to eye distance to its eye width. The species is currently known only from the type locality.

The genus Phillipsia (Sarcoscyphaceae) is characterized by large, bright-coloured, sub-stipitate apothecia, sub-operculate asci and asymmetrical ascospores with longitudinal striations. Morphological and phylogenetic studies were carried out on new collections of Phillipsia from China and Thailand. Phillipsia subpurpurea are recorded from China and Phillipsia gelatinosa from Thailand is introduced as a new species to science. Our new collections are confirmed to be divergent from other species of Phillipsia based on morphological examination and molecular phylogenetic analyses of ITS and LSU sequence data. Descriptions and figures are provided for the taxa which are also compared with allied taxa.

Begonia qingchengshanensis H.Z. Li, C.-I Peng & C.W. Lin, a new species of sect. Reichenheimia from Qingchengshan, an important centre of Daoist religion in Sichuan Province, China and a World Heritage Site, is here described and fully illustrated. Begonia qingchengshanensis resembles B. wilsonii Gagnep., also a member of sect. Reichenheimia occurring in Sichuan, in the widely ovate leaves and 3-locular ovary, each locule with unilamellate placenta. The new species differs from B. wilsonii in having an erect stem (vs. stemless with basal leaves) and ovary trigonous-ellipsoid with 3 wings (vs. clavate and without wings).

Monilochaetes nothapodytis sp. nov. was isolated from healthy Nothapodytes pittosporoides in Tongren City, Guizhou Province, China. Molecular analysis based on combined ITS and LSU sequence data showed that M. nothapodytis formed a distinct clade with the type species M. infuscans and other species in this genus. Morphological examination showed that M. nothapodytis differs from other Monilochaetes species in its host and in having aseptate, ellipsoidal conidia, the micro-conidiophores are shorter and the micro-conidia are smaller than in other species. The new species is described and illustrated and an updated phylogenetic tree is presented for Glomerellales.

The genusOdorranais widely distributed in the mountains of East and Southeastern Asia. An increasing number of new species in the genus have been recognized especially in the last decade. Phylogenetic studies of theO. schmackerispecies complex with wide distributional range also revealed several cryptic species. Here, we describe a new species in the species complex from Guizhou Province of China. Phylogenetic analyses based on mitochondrial DNA indicated the new species as a monophyly clustered into theOdorranaclade and sister toO. schmackeri, and nuclear DNA also indicated it as an independent lineage separated from its related species. Morphologically, the new species can be distinguished from its congeners based on a combination of the following characters: (1) having smaller body size in males (snout-vent length (SVL) <43.3 mm); (2) head longer than wide; (3) dorsolateral folds absent; (4) tympanum of males large and distinct, tympanum diameter twice as long as width of distal phalanx of finger III; (5) two metacarpal tubercles; (6) relative finger lengths: II < I < IV < III; (7) tibiotarsal articulation reaching to the level between eye to nostril when leg stretched forward; (8) disks on digits with circum-marginal grooves; (9) toes fully webbed to disks; (10) the first subarticular tubercle on fingers weak; (11) having white pectoral spinules, paired subgular vocal sacs located at corners of throat, light yellow nuptial pad on the first finger in males.

A new species, Ochroconis terricola, was isolated from soil in Guizhou Province, China. Morphology and phylogenetic analyses of the combined sequence data of nuclear ribosomal DNA genes (ITS, LSU, SSU) revealed the strain as different from other Ochroconis species.

Ophiocordyceps is entomopathogenic and is the best studied genus in Ophiocordycipitaceae. Members of Ophiocordyceps and ants form sophisticated interactions. However, taxonomy and evolutionary relationships of this group of pathogens remain unclear. During a survey in Changbai Mountains, Jiling Province, China, a new entomogenous species, Ophiocordyceps vespulae sp. nov. was found as a parasite on wasps (Hymenoptera). The new species is introduced with evidence from morphology and molecular analysis. This species is distinguished from closely related species by white to faint yellow stromata, shorter ascomata and asci, and smaller ascospores. We provide a phylogeny for Ophiocordyceps based on combined LSU, ITS, TEF1α and RPB2 DNA sequence data and the taxonomic status of the species is briefly discussed.

During a survey of freshwater fungi in Guizhou Province, China, a collection from a submerged decaying twig in Baihua Lake was identified as a new species of Sporidesmium sensu lato based on morphological characters and phylogenetic analyses of combined LSU, SSU, ITS, TEF1α and RPB2 sequence data. Phylogenetic analyses supported its placement in Sordariomycetes but the fungus grouped distant from Sporidesmium sensu stricto, and its ordinal or familial position within the class remained inconclusive. Sporidesmium guizhouense sp. nov. is introduced with an illustrated account and notes on its taxonomy, phylogeny and systematic position are provided.

A new species of Murina of the suilla-type is described from the Hkakabo Razi Landscape, Kachin, Upper Myanmar, an area that is currently being nominated as a World Heritage Site. The new species is a small vespertilionid, with a forearm length of 29.6 mm, and is very similar to M. kontumensis, which was recently described from Vietnam. However, it is distinguishable by a combination of external and craniodental morphology and genetics. The DNA Barcode reveals that the new species clusters sisterly to M. kontumensis but with a genetic distance of 11.5%. A single known specimen of the new species was collected from a lowland forest area in the plains of the Hkakabo Razi landscape, south-eastern Himalaya. Additional information on ecology, echolocation, and conservation are included. The high cryptic diversity of the genus Murina in Southeast Asia, as well as the Hkakabo Razi Landscape being a bat diversity hotspot, is highlighted.

A new species of the xenodermatid snake genus Achalinus Peters, 1869 is described from Yunnan Province, Southwest China, based on a single male specimen. The new species is assigned to the genus Achalinus on the basis of absence of preocular and postocular, subcaudals arranged in single row, and results of phylogenetic analyses of mitochondrial DNA CO1 sequence data. Achalinus pingbianensis sp. nov. differs from its congeners by the combination of following morphological characters: absence of a loreal, internasals subequal to that between prefrontals and dorsal scales strongly keeled, 23 rows throughout. Currently, 13 species are in the genus Achalinus, further taxonomical and phylogenetic studies based on more extensive samples and more markers will help understand the cryptic diversity and clarify their interspecific relationships.
