We describe five new taxa of Euastrum (E. abruptum var. chapadae, E. fissum var. nordestinum, E. marimbusense, E. ornatiscrobiculatum and E. praemorsum var. foersteri), and report a new record for the Northeastern Region of Brazil (E. groenbladii) from periphyton samples collected in the Pantanal dos Marimbus in the Chapada Diamantina, Bahia State, Brazil. Taxonomic notes and ecological characteristics of the taxa are provided.

Abstract This paper deals with six crustacean species associated with Posidonia oceanica (Linnaeus) Delile, 1813 meadows along the Aegean coasts of Turkey: Caprella tavolarensis, Eriopisella ruffoi, Iphimedia vicina, Astacilla mediterranea, Apseudopsis minimus and Macropodia deflexa. Apseudopsis minimus is a new record for the Turkish coast of the Aegean Sea, the other five species are new records for the eastern Mediterranean. Brief descriptions of the species and their morphological and ecological characteristics are given.

A new species Aquilegia bashahrica and a new nothospecies Aquilegia × emodi from North-western Himalayas, are described and illustrated. In addition A. lactiflora is recorded for India and Pakistan for the first time and Aquilegia kareliniana is excluded from the flora of India. An identification key to the species of Aquilegia from the North-western Himalayas is provided and diagnostic characters are discussed.

A floristic survey of the Styracaceae from Bahia state, Brazil, is presented. Eight species of Styrax were recognized, among which S. acuminatus represents a new record for the Northeastern region of Brazil. Styrax ferrugineus and S. pedicellatus are registered from few specimens, which suggest restricted distributions in cerrado and campo rupestre areas, respectively. The treatment includes a key to identification, descriptions and comments on taxa, as well as illustrations and geographic distribution maps of species in Bahia.

Herein, we provide the first record of Enyalius bilineatus for the Caatinga region, northeastern Brazil, and an updated distribution map based on literature and museum records. We collected two specimens of E. bilineatus at Serra do Barbado, northern region of the Espinhaço mountain ridge (“Chapada Diamantina” plateau complex), Bahia, Brazil. This new record extends the known geographic distribution of E. bilineatus 716 km, 462 km, and 590 km from the closest known localities in the southwest, southeast, and south, respectively.

We report here taxonomic novelties and interesting records of desmids, including new taxa, rare species and new occurrences, collected at three areas (Piatã, Rio de Contas and Palmeiras) in the Chapada Diamantina region, northeastern Brazil. We identified 16 desmids, including six taxa new to science (Cosmarium diamantinum, Euastrum bicudoi, E. piataense, Micrasterias jenneri var. semicirculare, M. torreyi var. pseudocurvata, and Tetmemorus furcatus), as well as new records for Brazil (Euastrum subcyclopicum var. elongatum and Euastrum octogibbosum). Taxonomic notes and ecological information are provided.

Arctidorylaimidae n.fam. and Arctidorylaimus n.gen. are proposed to accommodate A. arcticus n.sp., a dorylaimid with longitudinal body ridges from aquatic habitats. A diagnosis of the family and genus, key to closely related genera, and description and illustrations of the new species are provided. The main differential characters of these new taxa are the offset head, short, conoid tails in both sexes, and the spaced, mammillate supplements of the male. Dorylaimus lineatus, a new record for Canada, and Dorylaimus stagnalis are described from Canadian populations and their diagnostic characters compared and illustrated. The genus Dorylaimus is reviewed and a key, supplemented with tabulated characters and references, is provided for all valid species. Dorylaimus amplexor and Dorylaimus sulcatus are placed in species inquirendae.
