Dovyalis revoluta, almost since described included in D. zeyheri, is reinstated. This restricted-range endemic from South Africa is compared with other southern African members of the genus, in particular D. zeyheri. Illustrations, photographs, a distribution map and a revised description are provided. Also included is an updated key to the seven currently accepted members of Dovyalis in the Flora of southern Africa region. Dovyalis revoluta belongs to Dovyalis sect. Dovyalis, and has only been recorded from a small area in the province of KwaZulu-Natal near the town of Hluhluwe. Most plants are known from the False Bay Park section of the Isimangaliso Wetland Park, a World Heritage Site. Dovyalis revoluta is clearly distinguished from other southern African members of the genus by having relatively large (ca. 22–25 mm in diam.), subglobose, orange fruit, with the surface minutely and densely papillate and the calyx lobes (tepals) tightly revolute, but not accrescent, after flowering. Furthermore, the vegetative parts are essentially glabrous and the leaves are usually entire and not distinctly three-veined from the base. Domatia are absent. A preliminary population assessment, including an estimate of the sex ratio, was conducted at False Bay Park. Based on IUCN Red List categories and criteria, a conservation assessment of “Critically Endangered” is recommended for this species.

Casearia austroafricana, a new species from South Africa, is described, illustrated, mapped, and compared with the two other currently accepted southern African members of the genus, namely C. gladiiformis and C. battiscombei. The new species belongs to Casearia sect. Casearia, and is confined to the provinces of KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape. Known for over 100 years by botanists, material of this species has initially been assigned to C. junodii, but from about the 1960s to C. gladiiformis, for which the former is considered a synonym. Casearia austroafricana is readily distinguished by being a tall (up to ca. 30 m) subcanopy or canopy tree associated with temperate or subtropical forest, and in having twigs of young growth usually markedly zigzag, leaves of mature growth with blade relatively thin, principal lateral veins usually 8–10 pairs, margin distinctly serrate-crenate, flowers with the ovary glabrous, and capsules with relatively few seeds (3 or 4). A conservation assessment of “Least Concern” is recommended for this species based on IUCN Red List categories and criteria. Ecological associates are mentioned, including epiphytic ferns, orchids, birds attracted by the arillate seeds, and Lepidoptera (moths) for which it serves as host-plant.

Trisetopsis, a genus of temperate C3 grasses, extends from the Arabian Peninsula southwards along the African mountains (temperate Afromontane Region) to sub-Saharan Africa and Madagascar, with a centre of diversity in southern Africa. A taxonomic treatment of Trisetopsis in the Flora of southern Africa (FSA) region is presented. The proposed classification is based on existing and comparative evidence derived from macromorphology, micromorphology, leaf anatomy, DNA sequences and geographical distribution. Fourteen species of Trisetopsis are recognized in the FSA region, all of them endemic to the region. Five of the species are rare; based on IUCN Red List categories and criteria, three species are considered “Vulnerable”, one as “Endangered, and one as “Critically Endangered” and probably “Extinct”. Improved and emended species descriptions, a key to the species, updated distribution maps and illustrations, especially of the spikelets, are provided. Lectotypes are designated for the names Avenastrum longum var. grande and Avena longa (basionym of Trisetopsis longa).

Miconia rheophytica is described, illustrated, and compared with presumed relatives in the Octopleura clade. It is distinguished by its narrowly elliptic to ovate-lanceolate leaf blades with entire to subentire margins that have evenly spaced spreading smooth eglandular trichomes 0.8−1.4 mm long, an indumentum of dendritic trichomes with short axes and terete radiating arms on distal internodes, adaxial petiole surfaces, and primary and secondary veins on abaxial leaf surfaces, unribbed hypanthia that are constricted and tapered distally below the torus and covered with a mixture of basally roughened trichomes and dendritic trichomes with short axes, anthers with two ± truncate apical pores, eglandular anther appendages, 3-locular ovary, and berries that are bright blue at maturity. It is known only from flash-flooded riverbanks in three river canyons in the Magdalena Medio region of Antioquia, Colombia. A conservation assessment of “Endangered” is recommended for this species based on IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria.

Odontochilusputaoensis, a new species of Orchidaceae, is described and illustrated from Putao Township, Kachin State, Myanmar.Odontochilusputaoensisis close toO.duplex, but can be easily distinguished from the latter by having a light yellow lip, a bisaccate hypochile with a small, erect, blade-like and emarginate callus within each sac, a mesochile with a pair of dentate-pectinate flanges and a bilobed epichile with a pair of widely diverging lobes that are erect and concave. An identification key to the Southeast Asian species ofOdontochilusand colour photographs ofO.putaoensisare provided. A preliminary conservation assessment according to the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria is given for the new species.

Liparis popaensis, a new species of Orchidaceae, is described from Popa Mountain National Park, central Myanmar. Liparis popaensis is morphologically similar to L. odorata but it differs from the latter by having oblong-lanceolate dorsal sepal, column with two triangular wings and lip with a pair of subconical and basally adjoining calli at its base. Identification key and colour photographs are provided. A preliminary conservation assessment according to the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria is given for the new species.

In the town of Hampi, India, the former capital of the Vijayanagara Empire and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the past remains very much alive. Devotees congregate at medieval-era temples; tourists from across India and the world marvel at the empire's fallen grandeur; and, up until quite recently, residents lived and worked in centuries-old stone mandapas (pavilions) lining both sides of the town's main street. The case of Hampi and its heritage illustrates a key question: do people have the right to live in historic monuments, particularly monuments that have been declared the patrimony not just of India, but of the entire world?

Ocimum sebrabergensis, here described as new species, has a restricted range and is only known from the Zebra Mountains within the Kaokoveld Centre of Endemism, northwestern Namibia. These shrubs grow on clayey soil among greyish black rocks of anorthosite. Diagnostic characters for O. sebrabergensis include the mauve-coloured corolla with four orbicular lobes on the posterior lip and the calyx which has the lateral lobes of the anterior lip asymmetric lanceolate. Ocimum sebrabergensis is placed in Ocimum subg. Ocimum sect. Hiantia subsect. Hiantia ser. Serpyllifolium. A comparison of some of the more prominent morphological features to differentiate between O. sebrabergensis and its possible nearest relatives, O. burchellianum and O. fimbriatum, are provided. Based on IUCN Red List categories and criteria, a conservation assessment of Vulnerable (VU D1) is recommended for the new species.

Gravesia serratifolia, a new species from upper elevations of Marojejy National Park in northeastern Madagascar, is herein described, illustrated, mapped, and compared with similar species. It is readily characterized by its sparingly branched habit, leaf blades coarsely serrate with a moderate to sparse lepidote indumentum on both surfaces, inflorescence of few-flowered dichasia, calyx obsolete or evident as depressed truncate undulations with prominent calyx teeth that are laterally compressed when fresh, filaments with rusty-brown glandlike indumentum, and dorso-basal staminal appendages linear-oblong and widely spreading to coiled. A conservation assessment of Vulnerable is recommended for this species based on IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria.

Syzygium kuneneense, here described as a new species, is known only from the northern part of the Namib Desert in the Kaokoveld Centre of Endemism, southwestern Angola and adjacent northwestern Namibia. These rheophytic shrubs or small trees grow among rocks on the floodplain and banks of the lower Kunene River on the international boundary between Angola and Namibia. Diagnostic characters for Syzygium kuneneense include the oblanceolate or narrowly elliptic leaves, dense flower heads and the pedicellate flowers. A comparison of some of the more prominent morphological features to differentiate between S. kuneneense and the morphologically most similar species, S. guineense, is provided. Based on IUCN Red List categories and criteria, a conservation assessment of Vulnerable (VU D1) is recommended for the new species.
