A new species of Lophiaris (Orchidaceae, Onciidinae), Lophiaris quichensis Coxic, Cetzal, Mó & Carnevali, from the department of Quiché, Guatemala, is herein described, illustrated, and characterized based on morphological features. It is here referred to the L. straminea complex (along with L. aurisasinorum, L. sierracaracolensis, and L. straminea) from which it is easily distinguished by the color of the flowers: sepals and petals yellow, and the whole surface covered with pale reddish-brown spots, the claws with a pale reddish-brown stain, the labellum yellow with a reddish-brown blotch covering the central portion of the central lobe, the disc and partially the teeth of the callus, the lateral lobes with a brown spot at the base of the same. The etymology, distribution, ecology, and comparative differences of the new species with respect to other species of L. straminea complex are discussed. We also provide a comprehensive key to identify the species of L. straminea complex. The conservation status of L. quichensis is assessed as CR by the IUCN criteria.

A new species, Stachys semsurensis (sect. Infrarosularis), is described and illustrated from Adıyaman province, Turkey. From the morphological point of view, it appears to be similar to Stachys cataonica, but it differs in several morphological features including densely covered with short stalked to subsessile glandular hairs in flowering stems, verticillasters congested into ± globose head, calyx teeth lanceolate-subulate, corolla white, tube exserted and nutlets obovoid, greyish-brown, reticulate. A comprehensive description of the new species is provided, including detailed photographs, geographical distribution map, habitat structure and ecology, vernacular name and IUCN conservation status.

We describe here Begonia medeiroii, a narrow endemic species from the Atlantic Rainforest. The conservation status of this species was assessed as critically endangered according to IUCN criteria. This species resembles to B. catharinensis and B. hirtella in some characteristics, differing among other features due the presence of adventitious vegetative buds on the adaxial surface of the leaves.

Bituminaria tunetana a new species occurring in Tunisia is described and illustrated. It shows some relationships with B. basaltica from Aeolian Archipelago (Sicily), mainly for having very small flowers and also with B. flaccida from Middle East in having pale colored corolla and few-flowered inflorescences, but the three species differ among them in many diacritic features regarding the leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds. Besides, it is well distinct from B. bituminosa, species widely spread in Sicily and in several countries of the Mediterranean area, for many morphological features, as well as in micro-morphology of seed testa and pod indumentum. Its distribution, ecology and conservation status are also examined. An analytical key of the species belonging to Bituminaria subgen. Bituminaria is also provided.

A new species of Mimosa is described from the Atlantic Rainforest and ecotone with the Cerrado of southeastern Brazil, in the states of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo: M. porrecta L. Jordão, M.P. Morim & Baumgratz (Leguminosae). Related to M. sensitiva, it shares morphological affinities with this species but differs in having porrect-stellate trichomes, a new type of trichome for the genus, on the stems, and the dendritic trichomes in the fruits. The conservation status was assessed, according to IUCN criteria, as Least Concern.

Periglossum podoptyches is described as a new species from the KwaZulu-Natal Province of South Africa. As a rare species its conservation status is assessed as Vulnerable. This new species is closely related to both Periglossum mackenii and P. kassnerianum from which it differs mainly in having folded flaps of tissue at the base of the face of the restricted basal stalk of the staminal corona lobes. A comparative table with diagnostic morphological features and a key to the species of Periglossum are provided.

Gagea antakiensis (Liliaceae) is described and illustrated as a new species from Hatay province in South Anatolia, Turkey. The new species belongs to the section Didymobulbos, based on morphological features, and it is close to G. lojaconoi. The samples belonging to G. chrysantha species group in the Flora of Turkey were confirmed as G. lojaconoi. A taxonomic description, an illustration of the new species, geographical distribution, habitat and ecology, conservation status of the new species and its affinity to G. lojaconoi and G. chrysantha species group are given in this study. In addition, the anatomical features of G. antakiensis and G. lojaconoi are given.

Limonium poimenum is here proposed as a new species for Science. It is a very peculiar and extremely localized species, growing on a calcareous mountain of NW Sicily (southern Italy), where it grows on rupestrian places together with many other rare chasmophytic endemics. Iconography, morphological features, ecology and conservation status are provided, as well as a morphological comparison with L. todaroanum.

A new species of Pleroma from Serra dos Carajás, Pará state, Brazil, is described. Pleroma carajasense occurs in southeastern Amazonia, northern Brazil, in canga vegetation, on ironstone outcrops. It is morphologically related to Tibouchina caatingae, because both are shrubs with elliptic to oval leaves, conspicuous petioles (3–17 mm and 10–15 mm, respectively), a pair of elliptic bracteoles, and purple petals, anthers (both cycles) and style. Pleroma carajasense differs from T. caatingae by its chartaceous leaves (versus coriaceous in T. caatingae), with an obtuse to cuneate base (vs. obtuse to subcordate), hypanthium 4–7 × 1.2–4 mm (vs. 10–15 × 3–5 mm). According to IUCN criteria, this species should be considered endangered (EN). A morphological description, illustrations, photos in the field, scanning electronic micrographs of the leaf indumentum and seeds, information on conservation status and distribution are presented.
