During the study of Usnea from China, we identified and illustrated a new species, Usnea sulphuridiscoidea S. Y. Guo & L. F. Han from the Ailaoshan Mountain of Southwest China, based on morphological characteristics and nrDNA ITS sequence data. This new species can be distinguished morphologically from other apotheciate members of Usnea by the special lateral apothecia with sulphur disc, the inflated branches with glossy surface and numerous papillae as well as many fibrils, meanwhile lacking pseudocyphellae and soralia. The nrDNA ITS sequence data supported the recognition of the new species.

The genus Trichoglossum (Geoglossaceae) is characterized by black, clavate, stipitate apothecia with hymenial setae. We collected T. cf. octopartitum from China and a new species of Trichoglossum from Thailand, the latter named as T. septatum. According to morphological examination and molecular phylogenetic analyses of ITS sequence data, T. septatum diverges from other Trichoglossum species. Full descriptions, colour figures, and a phylogenetic tree to show the positions of T. cf. octopartitum and T. septatum are provided, and the two species are compared with allied taxa. The important morphological characteristics of Trichoglossum species are also summarized.

Species of Psilocybe collected in Yunnan Province in southwest China were identified using both morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analyses of ITS and nrLSU sequence data. Six phylogenetic species were recognized among the studied collections. In this paper, Psilocybe ruliensis is introduced as a new species, while Psilocybe keralensis is new to China, P. aff. fasciata is new to Yunnan and P. chuxiongensis is recollected in Yunnan Province. The remaining two phylogenetic species are not described or detailed due to the paucity of the material. The four species appear to be endemic to Asia.

Russula buyckii, a new species of Russula (subgen. Incrustatula, sect. Lilaceinae and subsect. Lilaceinae) is described from Eastern Himalaya, India. Its macro- and micro-morphological features are described in detail and compared with those of similar species. Identification and categorization of R. buyckii was supported by the molecular phylogenetic analysis based on the nrDNA ITS sequence data.

The new species, Tragopogon anatolicus A.Duran, B.Doğan & Coşkunç. sp. nov. (Asteraceae) is described and illustrated from Cilo Mt. (Hakkari), south-east Anatolia, Turkey. Tragopogon anatolicus is a local endemic, most similar to T. buphthalmoides (DC.) Boiss. Diagnostic morphological characters of these two closely related taxa are discussed. A phylogenetic analysis based on nrDNA ITS sequence data indicated that T. buphthalmoides is the sister species of the new taxon. Ecology, biogeography and conservation status of the new species are also presented.

A new species, Pseudodactylaria brevis, is described, illustrated and compared with other Pseudodactylaria and Dactylaria-like taxa. Evidence for the new species is provided by morphological comparison and sequence data analyses. Pseudodactylaria brevis can be distinguished from other Pseudodactylaria and Dactylaria-like species by its short hyaline conidiophores and fusiform, 1-septate hyaline conidia. Phylogenetic analysis of LSU and ITS sequence data was carried out to determine the phylogenetic placement of the species and confirm the taxonomic status of Pseudodactylariaceae.

In this study, we describe a new orchid species, Goodyera malipoensis, from Yunnan, China. We have performed morphological and molecular analyses on this new species. A detailed comparison between the newly discovered orchid and other members of Goodyera was conducted. The new plant is characterized by having a dense brownish green pubescence on the peduncle. Its ovate-lanceolate petal is unique in Goodyera genus. The hypochile is deeply concave-saccate, and inside there are two papillose rows on each side. These features distinguish the new orchid from all other known species of Goodyera. The molecular study based on nuclear ribosomal ITS sequence data and morphological differences support G. malipoensis as a distinct species.

Helminthosporium species from submerged wood in streams in Yunnan Province, China were studied based on morphology and DNA sequence data. Descriptions and illustrations of Helminthosporium velutinum and a new species H. aquaticum are provided. A combined phylogenetic tree, based on SSU, ITS and LSU sequence data, place the species in Massarinaceae, Pleosporales. The polyphyletic nature of Helminthosporium species within Massarinaceae is shown based on ITS sequence data available in GenBank.

A new species, Russula rubricolor, was collected in the Himalayan forests of Pakistan. This species is morphologically characterized by the yellowish hymenium, bright red pileus that is convex to flat with central depression and finally infundibuliform and striate towards margin, becoming blackish red with age. The newly reported species is placed in Russula subsect. Maculatinae based molecular phylogenetic analysis of ITS sequence data and supported by the red pileus color.

A new species, Rhexocercosporidium camporesii was collected from dead branches of Scabiosa maritima (Caprifoliaceae) in Forlì-Cesena, Italy. The new species is characterized by a lack of setae surrounding the apothecia and by fusiform, aseptate ascospores containing multiple guttules. Rhexocercosporidium camporesii has larger asci and ascospores than other species of Rhexocercosporidium. Phylogenetic analyses using a combined gene analysis of LSU and ITS sequence data indicated that the new species belongs to Ploettnerulaceae (Helotiales). A detailed morphological description and illustration of the new species are provided.

A new species, Strigula oleistrata, segregated from S. novae-zelandiae is described. The new species is widely sympatric with Strigula novae-zelandiae from which it is separated by a range of morphological characters and also by its nrDNA ITS sequence. As a result of this segregation, a new circumscription of S. novae-zelandiae is also provided. Comments on the ecology and conservation status of both species, and a revised key to the foliicolous Strigula species of New Zealand are provided.
