A new species, Mallomonas loricata sp. nov., is described from Vietnam based on silica-scale morphology studied using transmission and scanning electron microscopy. The species belongs to section Planae and has similar morphology to species from the Mallomonas matvienkoae complex. The new species is characterized by obovoid scales with a thick secondary layer with internal reticulation that covers almost whole surface of the scale. Scales of Mallomonas loricata were found at twenty-four localities of eight provinces in northern, central and southern areas of Vietnam. Scales of this new species have also been previously reported from Singapore and Malaysia. The distribution and habitat conditions of the new species are summarized.

A new species Mallomonas lamii sp. nov. is described from Vietnam based on silica-scale morphology studied by means of transmission and scanning electron microscopies. The species belongs to the Mallomonas matvienkoae complex and is characterized by large oval scales with a thick secondary layer with internal reticulation that covers the distal one-third of the scale. The scale morphology of Mallomonas lamii is very similar to that of the fossil taxon M. pleuriforamen. Scales of Mallomonas lamii were found at thirteen localities from six provinces in central and southern areas of Vietnam. The distributions and habitat conditions of the new species are summarized.

Mallomonas gusakovii sp. nov. is described from Vietnam based on silica-scale morphology studied by means of transmission and scanning electron microscopy. This species belongs to section Quadratae and is characterized by large and broad scales of three types with an internal reticulation, V-shaped rib and a forward projecting wing. Different types of the V-shaped rib in taxa from section Quadratae are discussed. Scales of Mallomonas gusakovii were found only in two sites in Phu Quoc Island, Southern Vietnam.

This paper describes the new species Mallomonas papuensis from a small bog pool in Papua province, Indonesia. The description is based on silica-scale morphology studied by means of transmission and scanning electron microscopy. The cells of Mallomonas papuensis are covered by three types of scales: asymmetric collar scales with forward projecting spines, rhombic body scales and oval posterior scales with short spines. The shield of all scales types lacks ornamentation. We were not able to find any specimens with bristles or isolated bristles although the small dome is visible on the collar scales. Mallomonas papuensis belongs to the section Torquatae and closely resembles M. newfoundlandicus. Distinctions from other similar taxa are discussed.

Mallomonas fimbriata, sp. nov. is described from bog pool, located in Cam Ranh Peninsula, Khanh Hoa Province, Central Vietnam. The description is based on silica-scale morphology studied by means of transmission and scanning electron microscopy. New species has 3 types of scales: oval body scales, caudal ones with robust, long, forward pointing spines and elongated, widened to distal part apical scales. Scales are thick, 3-layered, with inner reticulation. Mallomonas fimbriata and the similar M. fenestrata form a special group with unique features of scales structure close to the sections Retrorsae and Quadratae.

A new species, Synura korshikovii sp. nov., is described from water reservoirs in the vicinities of Polisky Nature Reserve, Northern Ukraine, based on scale morphology studied by means of transmission and scanning electron microscopy. This species has three types of scales: spine-bearing oval body scales, spine-bearing prolonged transition scales and spineless ovate or circular caudal scales. All scale types are covered with hexagonal reticulum. The spine is clavate or cylindrical with flat apex terminating in a few rows of papillae-like teeth.

A new species of tropical chrysophyte algae, Mallomonas lusca sp. nov. is described from Vietnam based on silica-scale morphology observed using scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Scales of this species were previously found in Malaysia, but had not yet been described. Mallomonas lusca belongs to section Torquatae and is most similar to M. favosa. Its scales have a unique conspicuous rounded pit with a raised thickened central area, which develops in association with the posterior pore in the angle of the posterior submarginal rib. This rounded pit is surrounded by delicate papillae across the border on the shield. Mallomonas lusca has been observed in six localities in Vietnam and one in Malaysia.

Mallomonas kuzminii sp. nov. is described from an oligotrophic lake located in Russia, East Siberia, Northern Baikal region. The description is based on silica-scale morphology studied by means of transmission and scanning electron microscopy. This new species belongs to the section Mallomonas and has several types of scales with or without dome. The form of the scales, the strongly hooded V-rib, and a dome with ribs surrounded by the extensions of the anterior rib, are the main features which distinguish this new taxon from the other species of the section.

This paper describes two new species of Mallomonas. Mallomonas temonis was identified in the Table Mountain Plateau, South Africa; Mallomonas divida was identified in Aquitaine, France. The descriptions are based on silica-scale morphology studied by means of transmission and scanning electron microscopy. Mallomonas temonis belongs to the section Heterospinae. A scale is surrounded by a submarginal rib connected at lateral parts by a strong, more or less transversal rib. Mallomonas divida belongs to the section Torquatae. The shield of scales is covered by regularly arranged, delicate papillae and marked by one or several rows of more distinctive papillae.

Two new species, Mallomonas punctostriata sp. nov. and Mallomonas collucata sp. nov., are described from Vietnam based on silica-scale morphology studied by means of transmission and scanning electron microscopy. Both species inhabits swamp areas. Mallomonas punctostriata belongs to section Striatae. Its scales have unique transverse rows, consisting of papillae, resembling transverse ribs of members of section Striatae. Mallomonas collucata belongs to section Annulatae. This species has small scales with hexagonal reticulation on the shield. Mallomonas punctostriata was found in Phu Quoc Island (Kien Giang Province) and Cam Ranh Peninsula (Khanh Hoa Province). Mallomonas collucata has been observed only in one site on Phu Quoc Island.

A new species of Cribraria, described herein as C. bicolor, appeared in moist chamber cultures on samples of the bark of Eucalyptus sp. collected at two localities in Australia. The morphology of representative specimens was examined by light and scanning electron microscopy, and micrographs of relevant morphological details of sporocarps and spores are provided. The species has a number of distinct and unique morphological features, including a glossy bright-violet globose sporotheca and a two-colored long stalk which is bright-red over the lower one-third and light yellow or lemon-yellow over the upper two-thirds. The combination of these characteristics as well as a shallow calyculus which is dark-violet when viewed under a dissecting microscope and bright red in transmitted light when mounted in lactophenol makes C. bicolor a well-defined morphospecies when compared to all other species of Cribraria. The stability of the taxonomic characters of the species was confirmed by an examination of a number of specimens.
