Two new species and one new record of Hyalopsora (Pucciniastraceae) on ferns in China

Three rust fungi belonging to the genus Hyalopsora occurring on ferns were found in China. Hyalopsora minispora and H. tibetica are described as new species in this paper. Hyalopsora minispora can be distinguished from known species by its relatively small urediniospores (19.5–23.0 × 12.0–19.0 μm) with 4–6 scattered germ pores and amphispores in a common pustule. Hyalopsora tibetica is mainly characterized by urediniospores with 2–6 scattered germ pores and amphispores. Hyalopsora neocheilanthis is described and reported as a new record for China. The phylogenetic relationships of Hyalopsora species and related taxa were examined by comparing the sequences of their internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) barcode and 28S rDNA gene segments. Hyalopsora is supported with strong bootstrap support and it differs from the two other fern-infecting genera viz. Milesina and Uredinopsis.

The Cuscuta chapalana complex (Convolvulaceae) is a recently circumscribed clade within the subgenus Grammica that includes several little-known species from Mexico and Central and northern South America characterized by the presence of peculiar subapical multicelullar appendages on the corolla and often on the calyx lobes. Basic morphology, scanning electron microscopy, and DNA sequence data from the plastid trnL–F region and the 26S rDNA and internal transcribed spacer nuclear regions were used to investigate the phylogenetic relationships within the group and to test the species limits. Multicellular appendages are horn-like or tubular in shape and bear one or more stomata at their tips; hence the vernacular name “horned” dodders. Eight lineages were reconstructed; two of them, both from Mexico, were described as new species: Cuscuta bonafortunae Costea & I. García, sp. nov., and Cuscuta carnosa Costea & Stefanović, sp. nov. Cuscuta pringlei is redefined as a variety of Cuscuta strobilacea . A taxonomic treatment with an identification key, descriptions, and illustrations is provided.

Two new species of Calocybe (Calocybe erminea sp. nov. and C. badiofloccosa sp. nov.) are described from Liaoning province, China. Calocybe erminea is characterized mainly by its light khaki to dirty white pileus, slightly hygrophanous stipe, small basidiospores and cellular epicutis. The key characters of C. badiofloccosa are its light ocher yellow and rough pileus, villose stipe and large basidiospores. The results of phylogenetic analyses based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and the nuclear large subunit rDNA (nrLSU) region indicated that they belong to Calocybe, but they are distinct from other species in the genus. They are compared morphologically with other species which are phenotypically similar and the phylogenetic relationships between them and allied taxa are discussed. These results confirm the species is new to science.

Two unusual species of Craterellus have been collected numerous times from the evergreen tropical forests in Kerala State, India. The species Craterellus albostrigosus and Craterellus inusitatus are described as new based on morphological and phylogenetic analyses of nrLSU-rDNA gene region. Complete morphological descriptions, photographs and comparisons with similar species are provided as well as a key to the known species of Craterellus from India.

Two new species and one new record species of the genus Pseudonereis are described from specimens collected from ecological surveys of coasts of Taiwan and an offshore island during the past 15 years: P. jihueiensis n. sp., P. kihawensis n. sp., and P. trimaculata. Epitokes of P. jihueiensis n. sp. and P. trimaculata are also described. Pseudonereis jihueiensis n. sp. can be distinguished from congeners by having edentate jaws, χ-shaped ridge pattern of Areas VI–V–VI, parapodial morphology (i.e., length ratio of dorsal cirrus to dorsal ligule or presence of small pennant-like dorsal ligule, shape of dorsal ligule in certain region of chaetigers), and no heterogomph spinigers in the subacicular fascicle of the neuropodia. Pseudonereis kihawensis n. sp. differs from congeners by having crescent-shaped pointed-bars in Area VI, λ-shaped ridge pattern of Areas VI–V–VI, parapodial morphology (i.e., length ratio of dorsal cirrus to dorsal ligule or presence of small pennant-like dorsal ligule or shape of dorsal ligule in certain region of chaetigers), and no heterogomph spinigers in the subacicular fascicle of the neuropodia. Pseudonereis trimaculata, a species originally described from Indonesia, is reported from Taiwan for the first time. A table of key characters for all species of Pseudonereis is provided.

In this paper, we revised the physopeltine genus Physopelta Amyot & Serville, 1843 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Largidae) from Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. Five species were recognized and diagnosed, including two new species, Ph. (Neophysopelta) lutaspidata sp. nov. from northern and central Taiwan and Ph. (N.) fusciscutellata sp. nov. from the Ryukyu Islands, Japan and Taiwan, and three known species, Ph. (N.) gutta gutta (Burmeister, 1834), Ph. (N.) parviceps Blöte, 1931, and Ph. (N.) quadriguttata Bergroth, 1894. Physopelta (Neophysopelta) fusciscutellata sp. nov., was previously regarded as either of the two species, Ph. (N.) cincticollis Stål, 1863 and Ph. (N.) parviceps, for populations from Taiwan. Previous records of Ph. (N.) cincticollis from Japan proper and Korea, and Ph. (N.) slanbuschii (Fabricius, 1787) from the Ryukyu Islands were considered as misidentifications of Ph. parviceps. A key to facilitate the identification of the five species known in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan is provided. Additionally, Ph. (N.) parviceps is recorded from China (Guangdong Province and Zhejiang Province) for the first time.

Three water mite species of the genus Torrenticola Piersig, 1896 are reported from Foding Mountain National Nature Reserve, Guizhou Province, China. Torrenticola fodingensis Gu & Guo, n. sp. and T. tenuichelicera Gu & Guo, n. sp. are described and illustrated as new to science, and T. nipponica (Enami, 1940) is recorded in China for the first time, with the first description and illustration of its deutonymph. In addition, a key to the species ofTorrenticola in China is presented in this paper. The type specimens of the new species are deposited in Institute of Entomology, Guizhou University, Guiyang, P. R. China (GUGC).
