Hydatothrips and Neohydatothrips (Thysanoptera, Thripidae) of East and South Asia with three new species from Taiwan

The tribe Sericothripini is divided into three genera, Sericothrips Haliday, Hydatothrips Karny and Neohydatothrips John. The genera Corcithrips Bhatti, Faureana Bhatti, Pyrothrips Bhatti, Sariathrips Bhatti and Zonothrips Priesner are considered new synonyms of Hydatothrips. The genera Elbuthrips Bhatti and Kazinothrips Bhatti are considered new synonyms of Neohydatothrips. Keys to the 23 species of Hydatothrips and 16 species of Neohydatothrips in East and South Asia, including Taiwan, China, Korea, Japan, India, Malaysia and the neighboring areas are given. Neohydatothrips pectinarius Kudo is a new synonym of N. medius Wang, N. populi Han is new synonym of N. elaeagni Kudo, and Z. luridus Ananthakrishnan is a new synonym of N. plynopygus (Karny). This paper describes three new species from Taiwan, H. flavidus, H. meriposa, and N. surrufus, and records from Taiwan for the first time the following four species: N. gracilipes Hood, N. plynopygus (Karny), N. samayunkur Kudo and N. tabulifer (Priesner).

Fourteen species of Phaecasiophora Grote from the Chinese Mainland are treated, including five new species (P. supparallelica sp. n., P. levis sp. n., P. curvicosta sp. n., P. lushina sp. n., and P. similithaiensis sp. n.) and three new species records for China. Phaecasiophora leechi is transferred from subgenus Megasyca to subgenus Phaecasiophora, and a new synonym of it, viz. P. obligata Kawabe, is proposed. Photographs of the adults, genitalia of the new species, and the species with new synonyms are provided. A key to the species from the Chinese Mainland based on genitalia is given.

AbstractOxycerina gen.n. (Stratiomyidae: Stratiomyinae), including three new species, O. hauseri sp.n., O. merzi sp.n. and O. sabaha sp.n., is described from the Oriental Region and compared with related genera of Stratiomyinae and Raphiocerinae. The monotypic genus Scapanocnema Enderlein, 1914 is considered to be a synonym of Odontomyia Meigen, 1803; S. spathulipes Enderlein, 1914 and O. latitibia Rozkošný & Kovac, 1994 are considered to be new synonyms of O. luteiceps de Meijere, 1911. Cyrtopus Bigot, 1883, is also proposed as a synonym of Odontomyia, resulting in new or resurrected combinations for the species O. fastuosa (Bigot, 1883), O. magnifica Lachaise & Lindner, 1973, and O. smaragdifera (Lindner, 1938). Timorimyia Frey, 1934 is proposed as a new synonym of Acanthasargus White, 1914, resulting in A. bidentatus (Frey, 1934), comb.n. A key to the genera of the Oriental Stratiomyinae and Raphiocerinae is presented.

The genus Ptycerata Ely, 1910 is recognised as a senior synonym of Caulastrocecis Chrétien, 1931, syn. nov., and revised in the Palearctic region. Nine species are recognised as valid. Three new species are described: Ptycerata sumpichi sp. nov. (Italy), Ptycerata nupponeni sp. nov. (Russia: Altai) and Ptycerata transbaikalica sp. nov. (Russia: Zabaikalskiy kray). Three new synonyms are established: Aristotelia salinatrix Meyrick, 1926, syn. nov. of Ptycerata furfurella (Staudinger, 1871) comb. nov., Xystophora tripunctella Snellen, 1884 syn. nov. of Ptycerata pudicella (Mann, 1861) comb. nov.; Aristotelia condensata Meyrick, 1928 syn. nov. of Ptycerata interstratella (Christoph, 1872) comb. nov. Further new generic combinations are proposed: Ptycerata gypsella (Constant, 1893) comb. nov., Ptycerata cryptoxena (Gozmány, 1952) comb. nov., Ptycerata perexigella (Junnilainen, 2010) comb. nov. In order to stabilise nomenclature lectotypes are designated for Ptycerata busckella Ely, 1910, Gelechia furfurella Staudinger, 1871, Hypsolophus pudicellus Mann, 1861, Aristotelia condensata Meyrick, 1928 and Aristotelia interstratella Christoph, 1872. The female genitalia of P. interstratella are described for the first time. Ptycerata pudicella is recorded as new for Cyprus and Mongolia, and P. interstratella as new from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tadzhikistan and Iran. Ptycerata pudicellus is removed from the list of Lepidoptera found in Spain.

A taxonomic revision of the Liogenys Guérin-Méneville, 1831 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Melolonthinae: Diplotaxini) from the Chacoan Biogeographical Province is presented. Liogenys now includes 92 species, including four new species described here: L. neoforcipata Cherman, new species; L. foveata Cherman, new species; L. isotarsis Cherman, new species; and L. truncata Cherman, new species; and the female of L. tarsalis Moser is described for the first time. Six new synonymies are proposed: L. denticulata Moser, 1918 is a new synonym of L. denticeps Blanchard, 1851; L. ophtalmica Frey, 1973 is a new synonym of L. bidenticeps Moser, 1919; L. mendozana incisa Frey, 1969 is a new synonym of L. mendozana Moser, 1918; L. flavicollis Blanchard, 1851 and L. fulvescens Blanchard, 1851 are new synonyms of L. pallens Blanchard, 1851; and L. densicollis Moser, 1921 is a new synonym of L. opacicollis Fairmaire, 1892. Liogenys cribricollis Moser, 1921 species status is revalidated from its synonymy with L. densicollis. A neotype is designated for Liogenys mendozana incisa Frey, 1969, as well as lectotypes for: L. bruchi Moser, 1924; L. cribricollis, L. denticulata, L. denticeps, L. fulvescens, L. latitarsis Moser, 1918; L. mendozana Moser, 1918; L. obscura Blanchard, 1851; L. opacicollis; and L. pallens. Redescriptions and/or diagnoses and updated geographical distributions are provided for 16 species. Six species previously known only from Argentina have their distribution expanded to Bolivia (L. mendozana; L. opacicollis; L. rectangula Frey, 1969), Paraguay (L. nigrofusca Moser, 1918; L. pallens), or to both of these countries (L. latitarsis).

In this study all available species of the nudibranch family Bornellidae (Bornella Gray, 1850, Pseudobornella Baba, 1932) are re-examined anatomically and their status re-evaluated. Of these, B. hancockana Kelaart, 1859 syn. nov., B. arborescens Pease, 1871 syn. nov., B. caledonica Crosse, 1875a syn. nov., and B. marmorata Collingwood, 1881 syn. nov. are considered to be new synonyms of B. stellifer (Adams and Reeve in Adams, 1848), and B. japonica Baba, 1949 syn. nov. is considered to be a new synonym of B. hermanni Angas, 1864. Two species, B. excepta Bergh, 1884 and B. simplex Eliot, 1904, are at present unrecognizable, B. semperi Crosse 1875b is here considered a nomen nudum, and four new species, B. dotoides sp. nov., B. pele sp. nov., B. valdae sp. nov. and B. johnsonorum sp. nov. are proposed. These are compared with a further four recognized species, B. calcarata Mörch, 1863, B. anguilla Johnson, 1984, B. sarape Bertsch, 1980 and B. irvingi Edmunds and Preece, 1996. The presence of an unpaired oral gland in Bornella is reported for the first time. The reproductive system is diaulic, and the morphology of the penis and the arrangement of the penial spines are considered diagnostic for most species. The monotypic genus Pseudobornella is re-examined for the first time. A comparative table for all recognized species is also provided. The review of the morphological differences within the family provides the basis for a phylogenetic analysis of the group. Bornella is shown to represent a monophyletic clade while the monophyly of the family Bornellidae is not supported.

The genus Sorolopha Lower from the Chinese Mainland is reviewed. Seventeen species are recognized, including two new species, S. dactyloidea sp. n. and S. identaeolochloca sp. n., and five species previously unrecorded from China, S. asphaeropa Diakonoff, 1973, S. ferruginosa Kawabe, 1989, S. karsholti Kawabe, 1989, S. liochlora (Meyrick, 1914), and S. stygiaula (Meyrick, 1933). Also, the female of S. ferruginosa is reported for the first time with a brief description and illustration. Sorolopha longurus Liu & Bai, 1982 (syn. n.) and S. micheliacola Liu, 2001 (syn. n.) are proposed as new synonyms of S. camarotis (Meyrick, 1936), and S. chlorotica Liu & Bai, 1985 (syn. n.) as a new synonym of S. rubescens Diakonoff, 1973. Photographs of adults and genitalia of the new species are provided. A key to the species from the Chinese Mainland is given based on the male genitalia.

The Chinese species of Earinus Wesmael, 1837 (Braconidae, Agathidinae) are revised and eight species are recognized. Three new species, namely, E. longigena sp. nov., E. pallitarsus sp. nov. and E. protinus sp. nov., are described and illustrated, and two species are recorded from China for the first time, i.e., E. brevistigmus van Achterberg et Long, 2010 and E. elator (Fabricius, 1804). A new synonym is proposed, Earinus albopilosus Chen et Yang, 2006, with Therophilus festivus (Muesebeck, 1953). A key to the Chinese species of the genus Earinus is provided.

Two new species of the subgenus Egadroma Motschulsky, 1855 of the genus Stenolophus Dejean, 1821 are described: S. (Egadroma) melniki sp. nov. from Thailand and S. (Egadroma) ovchinnikovi sp. nov. from Pakistan and India. Stenolophus (E.) ovatulus (Bates, 1889), comb. nov., which was originally described within Acupalpus Latreille, 1829, is redescribed on the basis of material from China (Hainan and Fujiang provinces), Vietnam, Thailand, and Cambodia (first records from Thailand and Cambodia). The following new synonym is proposed: Stenolophus (E.) ovatulus (Bates, 1889) = Egadroma fukiensis Jedlička, 1953, syn. nov.

A review of the aroid tribe Caladieae is presented, and three new species of Caladium Vent. and seven new species of Syngonium Schott are described and illustrated. Two species, C. picturatum K. Koch & C. D. Bouché and C. steudnerifolium Engl., previously considered to be synonymous with C. bicolor (Aiton) Vent., are fully redescribed. New species of Caladium are C. cortesae Croat & E. G. Gonç., C. palaciosii Croat & L. P. Hannon, and C. stevensonii Croat & Delannay. New species of Syngonium are S. adsettiorum Croat, O. Ortiz & J. S. Harrison, S. bastimentoense O. Ortiz & Croat, S. brewsterense Croat & Delannay, S. churchillii Croat & O. Ortiz, S. litense Croat, S. purpureospathum Croat & Raz, and S. tacotalpense Díaz-Jiménez & Croat. Syngonium yurimaguense Engl. is also reported for the first time outside the Amazon Basin.
