A second species of the hitherto monotypic genus Microdonophagus Schauff is described as Microdonophagus levis sp. nov. The species is described from material collected at La Selva Biological Research Station in Costa Rica. Unlike the previously described species, Microdonophagus woodleyi Schauff, it is described from females only and the biology is not known. The addition of a second species of Microdonophagus enhances the possibilities to assess the characters defining the genus, some of which are introduced as new here.

The monotypic genus Metasiphonella, originally described from Costa Rica, is now formally recorded from South America with a new species from Brazil—M. amorimi sp. nov. The taxonomic revision includes a detailed description of adult external morphology, female and male terminalia, and the egg stage for all species. A lectotype of M. magnifica Duda is designated and new country records are given.

An ongoing survey to document planthopper diversity on palms (Arecaceae) is being conducted in Costa Rica. During these efforts a new species of derbid planthopper belonging to the genus Agoo was found on Astrocaryum alatum Loomis in the Heredia province at La Selva Biological Station and is described here as Agoo luzdenia Bahder & Bartlett sp. n., bringing the genus to four described taxa—A. dahliana, A. luzdenia Bahder & Bartlett sp. n., A rubrimarginata, and A. xavieri. Sequence data for the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) and 18S genes was generated for the novel taxon and strongly supports its placement in the genus Agoo.

A new species of Platythyrea was found in the Field Museum insect collections too late to be included in Brown’s (1975) revision of the genus. Eleven workers were collected by Dr. John Wagner and Dr. John Kethley from beflesates at the La Selva Field Station of the Organization for Tropical Studies in Costa Rica. A formal description is offered herewith. Measurements are as defined in Brown (1975:3).

A new species of the genus Drosophila, Drosophila sagittifolii sp. nov. is described. Adult specimens of D. sagittifolii were aspirated from the inflorescences of Xanthosoma sagittifolium (L.) Schott (camacho), from which they also emerged, at the Río Guajalito Research Station, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Ecuador.
