Description of Acrolobus longigubernaculum sp. n. (Nematoda, Rhabditida, Cephalobidae) from Iran, the second species of the genus

A new species of the genus Acrolobus was recovered during a survey of soil nematodes. Acrolobus longigubernaculumsp. n., collected from the rhizosphere of weeds in northeastern Iran, is described and illustrated. It is characterized by abody length of 0.72–0.98 mm in females and 0.73–0.84 mm in males, annulated cuticle, lateral fields with three longitu-dinal incisures, lip region slightly offset from the neck and 8–11μm wide, lips leaf-like, stoma 12–16 µm long, pharyngealcorpus 2.7–3.2 times isthmus length, vulva located slightly posterior to middle of body (V = 61–65), spermatheca 26–46µm long, postuterine sac 27–49 µm long or 0.9–1.3 times the corresponding body diameter, female tail conical with a fine,short mucro (47–58 µm, c = 13.9–18.5, c’ = 2.4–3.2), male tail conical bearing a fine mucro (47–50 µm, c = 14.8–17.5;c’ = 2–2.3), spicules 26–30μm long and ventrally curved, and gubernaculum 12–16 µm long (50% of spicule length). The new taxon is the second species of the genus Acrolobus and is compared to the type species, A. emarginatus.

A new species belonging to the genus Stegelletina, S. lingulata sp. n., is described from xeric natural areas from Iran. It is characterized by having small body (0.51–0.69 mm in females and 0.45–0.64 mm in males), cuticle slightly tessellated especially at anterior end, lateral field with three longitudinal incisures, lips with long acute process at primary axils and three more dentate processes at secondary axils, primary axils with one triangular axillar guard process and secondary axils lacking axillar processes, labial probolae long (9–11 µm) with slender peduncle lacking adaxial expansion and with convergent smooth prongs, stoma, pharynx and reproductive systems cephaloboid, excretory pore at isthmus level, spermatheca 1.1–1.4 times, and post-vulval sac 0.9–1.2 times the corresponding body diameters in length, female rectum 0.6–0.8 times anal body diameter long, female tail conoid (35–47 µm long, c = 14.0–15.6, c' = 2.1–2.7) with fine rounded terminus, male tail conoid, curved ventrad (53–59 µm long, c = 11.0–12.0, c' = 1.9–2.5) with rounded terminus, spicules 31–33 µm long with ventrally straight manubrium and gubernaculum 14–17 µm long. Measurements and illustrations (line drawings, LM and SEM) are provided for this species. In addition, comments on the morphology of the lip region of the species of the genus Stegelletina are included.

During a survey of soil nematodes in Iran, a new species of Ditylenchus Filipjev, 1936 was discovered. Ditylenchus sarvarae sp. n. is characterised by its body length (1.0–1.4 mm), lateral field with seven incisures and without areolation, long postuterine sac (1.8–2.8 times the corresponding body diameter) and conical female tail with pointed tip (68–89 μm long, c = 13.7–18.2, c' = 4.2–5.1). Male specimens have conical tails (64–70 μm long, c = 14.5–16.7, c' = 4.0–4.5), spicules (22–26 μm long) and gubernaculum (8–10 μm long). Measurements and illustrations are provided for this new species. A molecular study of the 28S rDNA region of D. sarvarae sp. n. demonstrates that the Iranian species belongs to a separate group compared with the other molecularly characterized species of genus Ditylenchus.

A new species of terrestrial ascomycetes belonging to the genus Lonicericola (Pleosporales, Dothideomycetes) found on dead branches of Caprifolioideae sp. in Yunnan Province, China is described and illustrated. A new classification is proposed to accommodate the new taxon based on the interpreted results from multigenic phylogenetic inference and micro morphological comparisons. The analysis of a combined SSU, LSU, ITS rDNA and tef1 dataset significantly supports both the shared monophyletic origin of Lonicericola in Parabambusicolaceae as well as L. fuyuanensis as a distinct new species. Comparisons of the distinct morphology of the new species L. fuyuanensis with the type species of the genus, L. hyaloseptispora, and other genera of the family Parabambusicolaceae are made.

Distolabrellus magnivulvatus sp. n., collected from green-house soil in central Iberian peninsula, is described and illustrated. It is characterized by having 0.89–1.07 mm long body in females and 0.65–0.99 mm in males, cuticle tesselated, lateral fields with three longitudinal incisures, lip region almost continuous and 10–13 µm wide, lips dimorphic (alternately extremely reduced and ovoid), stoma 22–30 μm long or 2.0–2.8 times lip region diameter, pharyngeal collar shorter than half of total stoma length, distance to pharyngo-intestinal junction 148–190 µm, V = 82–86, vulva a transverse slit located in a vulval cone and with its anterior lip bearing a flap-like structure, body cuticle surrounding the vulva especially differentiated, female tail conical with acute tip (68–90 μm, c = 10.9–14.6, c’ = 2.1–4.5), male tail conical (23–32 μm, c = 24.8–34.0; c’ = 1.0–1.4), bursa peloderan and open anteriorly, genital papillae ten pairs (2+1/4+3), spicules 54–64 μ m long and fused two-thirds, and gubernaculum 32–41 μm long. The new taxon is the second species of the genus Distolabrellus and is compared to type species D. veechi.

A new penaeoid shrimp collected from the Middle Triassic Member II of the Guanling Formation in the vicinity of the city of Luxi, Yunnan, southwest China, is a new species,Aeger luxiin. sp. The new species possesses prominent spinose third maxillipeds, which is one of the typical characteristics ofAeger. The new species differs from the type species,Aeger tipulariusfrom the Jurassic Solnhofen Plattenkalk, in having a long, smooth rostrum with no subrostral spines. The new taxon increases the diversity of Chinese decapods, and further expands our knowledge of the phylogeny and evolution of the Mesozoic decapods. The find is the first complete specimen ofAegerin the Middle Triassic, and reveals a close biogeographic connection of the marine ecosystem between Eastern and Western Tethys.

Summary We isolated two tylenchid species belonging to the Sychnotylenchinae, Sychnotylenchus hibisci n. sp. and Neoditylenchus xiphydriae n. sp., from the bark beetle Ernoporus corpulentus and wood wasp Xiphydria ogasawarai, respectively. Sychnotylenchus hibisci n. sp. is characterised by its moderately stout body in both male and female, gubernaculum to spicule length ratio of one-third or less, crustaformeria structure composed of four columns with six large, rounded cells, and a broad female tail with a rounded terminus. The new species is closely related to S. ulmi, with which it shares body shape and gubernaculum to spicule length ratio, but is distinguished by the female tail shape and several morphometric values. Neoditylenchus xiphydriae n. sp. is characterised by its oval to leaf-shaped male bursa, male tail tip reaching the distal end of, and protruding beyond the bursa, a long post-vulval uterine sac (PUS), and a conical female tail with a narrowly rounded terminus. The species is typologically similar to N. pinophilus but is distinguished by its male spicule shape, gubernaculum to spicule length ratio, and longer PUS. Phylogenetically, the Sychnotylenchinae belongs under the Anguinidae (superfamily Sphaerularioidea) and is closely related to several Ditylenchus, Neotylenchus, Neomisticius, and Ficotylus species.

During a scientific expedition to the Palinurus Rock, Persian Gulf, Iraq, a reef, which was discovered first in 2012, we found a new species which we tentatively assigned to Ciocalypta (Porifera, Demospongiae, Suberitida, Halichondriidae). Genetic results from different authors (Morrow & Cardenas, 2015, Redmond et al., 2013, Erpenbeck et al., 2012) suggest that several species of Ciocalypta and other species from Suberitida (e.g. several Axinyssa, Petromica, Topsentia, Cymbastela, Halichondria (Eumastia)) are indeed no Suberitida but belong to taxa yet unnamed. The species described here genetically clearly belongs to this new taxon outside Suberitida which awaits definition. Morphologically the new species clearly would be classified as Ciocalypta. Therefore the new species is described and compared to similar morphological species, some of them, as the type species, true Suberitida and true Ciocalypta, others belong to taxa still in need of a name.

A new species of the genus Paractinolaimus, namely, Paractinolaimus persicus sp. n., is described. It is characterised by body 2.3–2.6 mm long; low, truncate lip region; four massive, acute onchia; stoma walls covered with sparse tiny denticles; odontostyle 25–28 μm long; well developed, didelphic-amphidelphic female reproductive apparatus; vulva a longitudinal oval pore; absence of advulval papillae; female tail 146–224 µm long (c’ = 3.3–5.9), elongated filiform, curved ventrad, and with acute terminus; male tail convex conoid with blunt terminus; and 17–18 nearly contiguous ventromedian supplements. This species was recovered from the rhizosphere of wild grass. Line drawings, LM and SEM photographs and measurements are provided.

A new Seifertia species was isolated from hanging rachides of Rhododendron decorum in Yunnan Province, Southwest China. The new taxon was compared with the type species, S. azalea and differs in having wider conidiophores, with hyaline to subhyaline and smaller conidia, while S. azalea has olive-brown to brown, rarely branched conidiophores, and pale brown or olive-brown, very rarely septate conidia. Phylogenetic analyses of combined LSU, SSU and TEF1-α sequence data show that S. shangrilaensis forms a robust clade with S. azalea nested among the species of Melanommataceae in the order Pleosporales. A new species, S. shangrilaensis is introduced in this study, and Seifertia should be placed in Melanommataceae (Pleosporales, Dothideomycetes) based on phylogenetic analysis. Description and illustration of Seifertia shangrilaensis are provided with notes and its introduction is supported by molecular data.

During a survey of soil nematodes in Iran, three species of predatory nematodes, including a new species of the genus Mylonchulus Cobb, 1916 were recovered. Mylonchulus kermaniensis sp. n. is characterised by its body length (1.2–1.4 mm), six rows of rasp-like denticles, the sixth line consisting of four denticles, female tail slightly sigmoid, sharply bent ventrad with digitate posterior portion slightly but clearly bent dorsad, (37–49 μm long, c=27.9–38.9, c'=1.2–1.7) with a terminal opening of spinneret. Two advulval papillae present, one is pre-vulval and the other one is located posterior to vulva. Furthermore, two other mononchid species namely M. cf. hawaiiensis (Cassidy, 1931) Goodey, 1951 and Mononchus truncatus Bastian, 1865 were also recovered from soil in the province of Kerman, Iran, the former representing a new geographical record for Iran. Measurements and illustration are provided for these three species. Molecular study of 18S rDNA region of M. cf. hawaiiensis demonstrated that the Iranian population compared with the nearest populations identified as M. hawaiiensis from Japan, shows 5 to 8 nucleotide differences. In addition, phylogeny of Mylonchulus is discussed and a checklist of the species of Mononchida from Iran is provided.
