Species of the anglerfish genus Chaunax Lowe, 1846 from the New Zealand region are taxonomically reviewed with six species recognized and described: Chaunax penicillatus McCulloch; C. nudiventer Ho & Shao, a new record for New Zealand; and four species new to science. Chaunax flavomaculatus sp. nov. distinguished by having its skin covered with a mix of numerous bifurcated and simple spinules, large yellow spots on dorsal surface of fresh specimens, and brownish coloured escal cirri; Chaunax mulleus sp. nov. by having a uniformly pink body with a deep red colour on ventral surfaces of the outer pectoral-fin and pelvic-fin, and lower part of caudal fin; Chaunax reticulatus sp. nov. by having cirri on the dorsal surface of head, and a pale reticulate colour pattern on a greyish background dorsally; and Chaunax russatus sp. nov. by its very wide illicial trough that is usually as wide or wider than the diameter of the pupil, and uniformly deep red body colour with creamy white to fuzzy greyish spots or patches on its dorsal surface. A key to species recognized from the study area is given.

Pimelodus multicratifer, a new species, is described from the rio Ribeira de Iguape basin. The new species differs from the other Pimelodus species by the following features: 26 to 30 gill rakers on the first branchial arch; a combination of three to six rows of dark spots regularly or irregularly scattered on the flanks and several small dark spots irregularly scattered on the dorsal surface of head, supraoccipital process, and sometimes on the dorsal and caudal fins; striated lips; maxillary barbels reaching between posterior tip of the pelvic-fin rays and posterior tip of the middle caudal-fin rays.

This study reports five species of Pareuchiloglanis in the Lancangjiang drainage of China, including descriptions of two new species: P. abbreviatus sp. nov., P. gracilicaudata, P. kamengensis, P. myzostoma and P. prolixdorsalis sp. nov. The two new species are distinguished from P. feae, P. poilanei, P. sichuanensis and P. tianquanensis by a shorter adipose-fin base and the adipose-fin base being separated from the caudal fin, differ from P. sinensis, P. macrotrema, P. longicauda and P. rhabdurus by a more restricted gill opening (not reaching the base of the first pectoral-fin element ventrally), and differ from P. songmaensis by an anal-fin ray count of ii-3-4 (vs. ii-8). Pareuchiloglanis abbreviatus is distinguished from congeners by the tip of the dorsal fin reaching the origin of the adipose fin when depressed. Pareuchiloglanis prolixdorsalis is distinguished from P. gongshanensis, P. macropterus and P. kamengensis by lacking a sulcus between the lower lip and the base of the maxillary barbel, and differs from P. anteanalis by the shorter pectoral fin, the pectoral fin not reaching to the origin of pelvic fin. It differs from P. gracilicaudata, P. myzostoma, P. nebulifer and P. robusta by a caudal-fin ray count of 6+7 (vs. 7+8), and differs from P. abbreviatus by the tip of dorsal fin not reaching to the origin of the adipose fin when depressed (vs. reaching). It differs from P. songdaensis by the distance between the origin of the pelvic fin to the base of the anal fin being longer than that to the mouth (vs. equal).

Ituglanis macunaima, new species, is described from the rio Araguaia basin, Mato Grosso, Brazil. It is distinguished from its congeners by the following combination of characters: posterior fontanel absent; pectoral-fin rays usually i,4; pelvic-fin rays usually i,4; branched caudal-fin rays usually 5,5; mottled color pattern formed by irregular to roundish dark brown spots on whitish background; reduced supraorbital canal with pores s1 and s2 lacking; reduced infraorbital canal with pores i1 and i3 lacking; 2-3 pleural ribs; and 35-38 vertebrae. A detailed description and illustrations of the skeleton of I. macunaima are also provided. Comparisons with other trichomycterids are presented, and several reductive traits of I. macunaima are discussed. Some comments are made about the systematics and phylogeny of the genus.

Pseudobunocephalus timbira, new species, is described from streams of the lower Tocantins and the Mearim river drainages, in North and Northeast of Brazil. Pseudobunocephalus timbira can be distinguished from all congeners by having the second hypobranchial and the third basibranchial cartilaginous (vs. ossified). Additionally, it can be dintinguished from P. lundbergi by the following putative apomorphic features within Pseudobunocephalus: posterolateral process of premaxilla present (vs. absent); bony knobs in dorsal lamina of Weberian apparatus absent (vs. present); distal end of posterior margin of 5th parapophysis not enlarged (vs. enlarged); number of ribs three (vs. four or five) and infraorbital sensory canal entering neurocranium via frontal (vs. via sphenotic). It is distinguished from P. bifidus and P. iheringii by having a gracile body not surpassing 34 mm SL (vs. robust body, reaching up to 59 mm SL, respectively); by having the posterior margin of cranial fontanel concave (vs. posterior margin somewhat straight with parieto-supraoccipital extending anteriorly); by having a conspicuous knobby ornamentation on dorsal surface of skull (vs. skull knobs slightly pronounced); by having Weberian ventral blade of hemal canal opened (vs. closed) and by the absence of serrations on the proximal portion of the anterior margin of pectoral-fin spine (vs. serrations covering entire anterior margin of the pectoral spine). Additionally, it can be distinguished from P. amazonicus, P. rugosus and P. quadriradiatus, by having the posterolateral mental barbel with at least one fleshy lobe located proximally along the posterior margin (vs. posterolateral mental barbel simple, not having fleshy lobes). It also differs from P. amazonicus and P. rugosus by having five branchiostegal rays (vs. four). It also can be distinguished from P. amazonicus by having the contact of hyomandibula cartilage with neurocranium limited to the sphenotic (vs. extending to both sphenotic and pterotic); by having the ventral blade of Weberian apparatus open (vs. closed) and by anterior exit of hemal canal in abdominal vertebra (vs. in complex vertebra); from P. rugosus by coloration of proximal portion of caudal fin similar to rest of caudal fin (vs. clear patch) and from P. quadriradiatus by the total number of pectoral fin-rays six (vs. five). Variable characteristics within Pseudobunocephalus species are summarized and comments on the phylogenetic relationships and the disjunct distribution of the new species are made. Four new species of Badis are described from West Bengal, India. Badis andrewraoi, new species, is diagnosed by a combination of characters which include absence of a black caudal-fin margin, absence of a conspicuous dark blotch on pectoral-fin base, absence of cleithral and opercular blotches, absence of a blotch on the dorsolateral aspect of the caudal peduncle, absence of an ocellus on the caudal-fin base, presence of a conspicuous median black caudal peduncle blotch, a medially broader posterior-most bar, displaying as a partially absorbed second median caudal peduncle blotch, presence of an additional bar anteriorly, and vertical bars restricted to lower half of body and never forming large blocks. Badis autumnum, new species, is diagnosed by a combination of characters which include two autapomorphies: presence of a blotch above the base of the opercular spine, and of a conspicuous dark blotch on pectoral-fin base. Additionally, it presents a black caudal-fin margin, outlining entire fin, absence of a cleithral blotch, absence of a blotch on the dorsolateral aspect of the caudal peduncle, absence of an ocellus on the caudal-fin base, presence of a conspicuous median black caudal peduncle blotch, a medially broader posterior-most bar, displaying as a partially absorbed second median caudal peduncle blotch, and presence of an additional bar anteriorly. Badis kyanos, new species, is diagnosed by a combination of characters which include absence of a conspicuous dark blotch on pectoral-fin base, absence of cleithral and opercular blotches, absence of a blotch on the dorsolateral aspect of the caudal peduncle, absence of an ocellus on the caudal-fin base, presence of a conspicuous median black caudal peduncle blotch, a medially broader posterior-most bar, displaying as a partially absorbed second median caudal peduncle blotch, presence of an additional bar anteriorly, its vertical bars forming large, fragmented black blocks dorsolaterally and ventrolaterally, and a unique stress colouration consisting of a dark grey body, metallic dark blue operculum, flanks almost entirely devoid of bars, large, fragmented black blocks dorsolaterally, and absence of a black caudal-fin margin. Based on similarities in colour pattern and biometrics they are deduced to be closely related and form a new species group, which we herein define. The three species are divergent and diagnosable from each other and represent valid evolutionary species. The fourth species represents a cryptic unit that was heretofore unrecognised and considered as the most widespread species of the genus, B. badis. We describe this lineage as Badis soraya, new species, and find it belongs to the B. badis species group. It can be diagnosed by a combination of characters which include absence of opercular blotches, absence of a blotch on the dorsolateral aspect of the caudal peduncle, absence of an ocellus on the caudal-fin base, presence of a cleithral blotch, presence of a small oval black blotch medially on caudal peduncle, interorbital width 6.3–8.8 % SL, dorsal-fin spines XIV–XVI, scales in lateral row 25–27, and vertebrae number 27.

Callogobius falx n. sp. (Gobiidae) is described on the basis of two specimens (14.4 and 23.1 mm in standard length: SL) from the Ryukyu Islands, southern Japan. The new species is characterized by the following combination of characters: dorsal-fin rays VI-I, 8 or 9; anal-fin rays I, 7; pectoral-fin rays 18 or 19; lateral scale rows 20–22; body depth moderate, neither particularly slender nor deep (depth at pelvic-fin origin 18.3–20.0% of SL); pelvic-fin base with frenum; caudal-fin length moderate, margin rounded; cephalic sensory-canal pores absent; interorbital papillae row separated, forming two rows (one row in 14.4 mm paratype); postorbital papillae row not continuous with upper cranial papillae row; preopercular and transverse opercular papillae rows connected, forming single transverse row; body with three oblique black bars, angled upwards anteriorly and continuous with black bars on dorsal fins, anteriormost bar extending from 1st dorsal fin to midline of body, posterior two bars extending from second dorsal fin to dorsal surface of body and caudal peduncle, respectively; pectoral fin white, upper half widely (ca. 1/2 length of rays) margined with black; caudal-fin base with narrow sickle-like bar.

Boraras naevus, new species, is described from peninsular Thailand. It is distinguished from other congeners by features of its sexually dimorphic colour pattern, principal caudal-fin, pelvic-fin and branched dorsal-fin ray counts, lateral scale row counts, and a number of osteological features.

Two new species of the sisorid catfish genus Euchiloglanis are described from the upper Yangtze River and the upper Black River drainage (Red River basin) in China. Euchiloglanis longibarbatus n. sp. from the upper Yangtze River differs from E. davidi, E. kishinouyei and E. longus n. sp. by having an elongate and threadlike maxillary barbel with a pointed tip reaching posteriorly to beyond the gill opening. It differs from E. dorsoarcus by having the anal-fin origin closer to the caudal-fin base than to the pelvic-fin origin, and from E. phongthoensis by having the anus located midway between the pelvic-fin insertion and the anal-fin origin. Euchiloglanis longus n. sp. from the upper Black River drainage differs from E. davidi by having the length of the pectoral fin equal to 78.4–89.5% of the distance between the origins of the pectoral and pelvic fins, and from E. kishinouyei and E. longibarbatus n. sp. by having the distance between the origins of the pelvic and anal fins equal to 108.9–140.6% of the distance between the origins of the pectoral and pelvic fins. It further differs from E. davidi, E. kishinouyei, and E. longibarbatus n. sp. by having the depth of the caudal peduncle equal to 14.1–27.0% of the length of the caudal peduncle. It differs from E. dorsoarcus by having the anal-fin origin closer to the caudal-fin base than to the pelvic-fin origin, and from E. phongthoensis by having the distance from the adipose-fin origin to the dorsal-fin insertion equal to about 50% of the adipose-fin base length. Euchiloglanis davidi and E. kishinouyei are redescribed from recently collected specimens from their type localities. A lectotype is designated for E. davidi and a neotype designated for E. kishinouyei. Euchiloglanis kishinouyei is distinguished from E. davidi by lacking an indentation in the premaxillary tooth band, by having the length of the pectoral fin equal to 75.5–89.6% of the distance between the insertions of the pectoral and pelvic fins, and by having the distance between the insertion of the pelvic-fin and the anus equal to 81.5–97.5% of the distance between the insertions of the pectoral and pelvic fins. A key to the species of is Euchiloglanis also provided.

Exostoma dulongensis sp. nov., a new species of sisorid catfish from the genus Exostoma Blyth, 1860, is described from the Xiaojiang River and Dulongjiang River, tributaries of N’mai Hka River in the Irrawaddy basin, Yunnan Province, China. Exostoma dulongensis sp. nov. is the seventeenth species reported within this genus and is most similar to Exostoma ericinum Ng 2018 in morphology but can be distinguished by the following characters: tip of pelvic fin far from anus vs. reaching when depressed; nasal barbel reaching or surpassing posterior edge of orbit vs. just reaching middle of orbit; greater preanal length (70.9%–80.1% SL vs. 67.7%–70.5%); and longer dorsal to adipose length (13.5%–23.8% SL vs. 8.0%–12.0%). The new species can also be distinguished from all known congeners by the following characters: adipose fin confluent with caudal fin and without incision; caudal fin weakly forked; 40–43 vertebrae; and pectoral fin extending to vicinity of dorsal fin origin.

Two new species of Trimma are described from Fiji. Trimma bathum n. sp. lacks scales on the cheeks, opercle and predorsal midline, has 18–19 unbranched pectoral fin rays, an unbranched 5th pelvic fin ray that is 40–56% the length of the 4th ray, 17–18 gill rakers on the outer surface of the first gill arch, a U-shaped interorbital and a narrow slit-like postorbital trench, a low, median fleshy ridge extending half-way towards the orbit from the origin of the first dorsal fin, and, when freshly collected, a pink head and body with most body scales having an orange-brown spot or short bar at their centres. The species is currently known only from off Suva Harbour, Viti Levu, Fiji. Trimma finistrinum n. sp. has a bony interorbital equal to the pupil diameter, a fully scaled nape of 12–14 scales, a second dorsal spine that may reach posteriorly to the middle of the second dorsal fin, the papillae in the longitudinal row immediately below the eye either single or with two papillae in a vertical row, unbranched pectoral fin rays, usually a branched fifth pelvic-fin ray that is about half length of the fourth ray, and a large diffuse dark blotch on the posterior part of the caudal peduncle. A colour pattern of a brownish body with most body scales having golden- to greenish-yellow (pale in preservative) centres is unique among species of the genus. The species is currently recorded only from off the north and east coasts of Viti Levu, Fiji.
