A new species of the genus Nigrobaetis Novikova & Kluge, 1987 is described based on larvae from the Caucasus Mountains. Nigrobaetis (Takobia) katerynae Martynov, sp. nov., is easily distinguishable from other Takobia species by the following combination of characters: the shapes of frontal suture, mandibles, labial palp, paraproctal prolongation, gills; the number of setal rows along the external margins of femora; the absence of gills on tergum I; and the colour pattern of body.

Cytological and morphological characteristics of a new species, Pseudoroegneria deweyi K. B. Jensen, from the Karachayevo-Cherkesskaya Avtonomnaya Oblast' Region of Russia are described. This species is cytologically stable, genomically similar to Pseudoroegneria tauri, highly fertile (cross-pollinating), and morphologically unique compared with most other species in the genus. Pseudoroegneria deweyi differs from other closely related species in the number of rachis nodes in the inflorescence. Pseudoroegneria stipifolia (2n = 2x = 14, SS) and Agropyron cristatum (2n = 2x = 14, PP) were used as male parents in crosses with P. deweyi. All three P. deweyi accessions studied were tetraploids (2n = 28) and behaved meiotically as allotetraploids with a mean chromosome association of 0.03 I + 13.30 II + 0.03 III + 0.26 IV per cell. In the hybrid P. deweyi × A. cristatum, average chromosome association was 5.92 I + 4.55 II + 1.83 III + 0.09 IV per cell, while the average chromosome association in P. deweyi × P. stipifolia was 4.98 I + 5.23 II + 1.73 III 0.04 IV per cell. Pseudoroegneria deweyi joins P. tauri as the only other known naturally occurring species with the genomic formula of SSPP. Cluster analysis of 21 morphological characters supports the inclusion of P. deweyi as part of the genus Pseudoroegneria rather than Agropyron. The new species Epeorus (Caucasiron) bicolliculatus sp. nov. is described based on larvae and adults. Diagnostic characters are given with regard to the related species. The most pronounced difference is represented by protuberances on larval abdominal terga II–IX, present exclusively in E. (C.) bicolliculatus sp. nov. Primary data on the biology and distribution of the new species are also provided. Delimitation of the new species is verified by the analysis of COI (barcode) sequences. Barcode data for all Caucasian species of the subgenus Caucasiron are provided for the first time and compared with E. (C.) bicolliculatus sp. nov.

The genus Cicadulina was established in 1926 (Bull. Ent. Res. 17, p. 43) to hold a new species, C. zeae, China, injurious to maize in Kenya Colony. Later (Bull. Ent. Res., 19, 1928, p. 66) it was shown that Balclutha mbila, Naude, recorded as transmitting the virus of streak disease of maize in Natal, also belonged to this genus, and two new species C. arachidis and C. similis were described from the Gambia, where they were reported as injurious to ground-nut and suspected of transmitting the virus of the rosette disease of that plant. Since that time Dr. H. H. Storey of the Amani Research Station has been investigating the possibility of transmission of the streak virus of maize by C. zeae. In attempting to breed strains capable of transmission of the disease certain crosses were made which showed conclusively that he was dealing with two distinct species. These species he was able to separate on the colour pattern of the abdomen. Dr. Storey has now sent to me material of both these species and a study of the genitalia corroborates his finding. One, of course, proved to be C. zeae, the other is new and I therefore propose to dedicate it to the discoverer.

A new species of Tricorythopsis is described, illustrated and diagnosed based on nymphs from Pará state, Brazil. Tricorythopsis similis sp. nov. is related to Tricorythopsis rondoniensis (Dias, Cruz & Ferreira) based on abdominal terga III–VII with acute tubercles medially located on posterior margins, and by the absence of the transversal line on operculate gill. However, the new species can be identified by the following combination of characteristics: general coloration yellowish brown, with blackish and purplish marks irregularly distributed; maxillary palp 1-segmented; segment II of labial palp shorter than segment I and longer than segment III; femora and tibiae with margins covered by long, pectinate setae; tarsal claws with 4 to 5 marginal denticles and 4+2 very small, submarginal denticles. This is the first species of Tricorythopsis recorded from Pará state.

Abstract This study dealt with three species of ornamental palaemonid freshwater prawns of the genus Macrobrachium, based on morphological and molecular analysis. Macrobrachium pentazona He, Gao & Guo, 2009; M. laevis Zheng, Chen & Guo, 2019; and M. bilineare sp. nov. are distinguishable from closely related species by segmental ratios, spination of the second pereiopods and the slender scaphocerite. Macrobrachium bilineare sp. nov. can easily be recognized in the field by its bright colour pattern. Molecular evidence of mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI), also supports the characterization of this new species, raising the total number of Macrobrachium spp. known from China to 41. Detailed description, illustrations, colour photographs, habitat information, distribution maps and features of conservation significance are also briefly discussed.

Ethiopia is known for its highly endemic and rich herpetofaunal diversity shaped by its biogeographical patterns. Here, a new species of skink, Trachylepis boehmei sp. nov., is described from the Ethiopian Highlands. It differs from its congeners in having smooth uncarinated dorsal scales, 26–29 scale rows around midbody, a slender body of small size, a relatively short tail, a low eye–snout distance and a unique colour pattern with 6–8 darkish brown dorsal stripes. Based on morphological characteristics, its biogeographical pattern and comparisons with other similar congeners this new species is closely related to Trachylepis megalura. A published new record of Trachylepis wingati for the Kafa region is re-examined and identified as T. megalura. An updated comprehensive key to the Trachylepis found in Ethiopia is provided. In the context of ongoing phylogenetic and taxonomic revisions of Trachylepis and its species complexes the presence of further cryptic taxa can be expected also for the Ethiopian biodiversity hotspots. Consequently, the need of further herpetological investigations in this region of ecological importance is stressed.
