Quantitative collecting efforts over the last several decades in Costa Rica have resulted in many new species of insects. The Arthropods of La Selva projects included collecting from a typical lowland Neotropical forest and up an altitudinal transect, and has provided many valuable samples of insects, spiders and mites potentially new to science. We describe 18 new species in the bark beetle genusScolytodesFerrari, 1867, 14 of which were collected during this project:S.angulusJordal & Kirkendall,sp. nov.,S.sufflatusJordal & Kirkendall,sp. nov.,S.squamatifronsJordal & Kirkendall,sp. nov.,S.comosusJordal & Kirkendall,sp. nov.,S.spatulatusJordal & Kirkendall,sp. nov.,S.seriatusJordal & Kirkendall,sp. nov.,S.profundusJordal & Kirkendall,sp. nov.,S.catinusJordal & Kirkendall,sp. nov.,S.fimbriatusJordal & Kirkendall,sp. nov.,S.sulcifronsJordal & Kirkendall,sp. nov.,S.planifronsJordal & Kirkendall,sp. nov.,S.porosusJordal & Kirkendall,sp. nov.,S.mundusJordal & Kirkendall,sp. nov.,S.callosusJordal & Kirkendall,sp. nov.,S.parvipilusJordal & Kirkendall,sp. nov.,S.plenusJordal & Kirkendall,sp. nov.,S.nigerJordal & Kirkendall,sp. nov., andS.simplexJordal & Kirkendall,sp. nov.One species,ScolytodesminutissimusSchedl, 1952, is redescribed to match the holotype. We give new Costa Rica records forS.costabilisWood, 1974, which is the correct name forS.obesusWood, 1975 (syn. nov.). We report Costa Rica as a new country record for six species:ScolytodesclusiacolensWood, 1967,S.crinalisWood, 1978,S.culcitatus(Blandford, 1897),S.libidusWood, 1978,S.reticulatus(Wood, 1961), andS.spadix(Blackman, 1943). From a closely related genus, we provide the first record for Central America (and only the second collection) ofPycnarthrumfulgidumWood, 1977.

A revision of the Central American species of the genus Brachiacantha was undertaken to update the knowledge of the Central American species of the genus. Material of several collections was reviewed, using original descriptions and keys, and comparing with the type material. Twenty-five species of the genus Brachiacantha were found in Central American material, including nine new species: B. nubes Nestor-Arriola, Toledo-Hernández and Solís, sp. nov., B. dentata Nestor-Arriola, Toledo-Hernández and Solís, sp. nov., B. isthmena Nestor-Arriola, Toledo-Hernández and Solís, sp. nov., B. aurantiapleura Nestor-Arriola, Solís and Toledo-Hernández, sp. nov., B. invertita Nestor-Arriola, Toledo-Hernández and Solís, sp. nov., B. papiliona Nestor-Arriola, Toledo-Hernández and Solís, sp. nov., B. tica Nestor-Arriola, Toledo-Hernández and Solís, sp. nov., B. hexaspina González, Větrovec and Nestor-Arriola, sp. nov., and B. mimica Nestor-Arriola and Toledo-Hernández, sp. nov. Nomenclatural changes include Brachiacantha gorhami (Weise), comb. nov., B. guatemalensis (Gorham), comb. nov., and Brachiacantha duodecimguttata Leng, syn. nov. for B. lepida Mulsant. The male genitalia of the species B. fenestrata Gorhan, B. octostigma Mulsant, B. aperta Weise, and B. cachensis Gorhan are described and illustrated for the first time. New records include B. indubitabilis Crotch and B. bipartita Mulsant (Costa Rica and Guatemala), B. gorhami (Weise) (El Salvador), and B. cachensis Gorham (Panamá). A key to the species is included.

In this paper five new records for the Chinese flat bug fauna are reported: Aradus angularis Sahlberg 1886, Aradus betulae (Linnaeus 1758), Aradus distinctus Fieber 1860, Aradus tonkinensis Kormilev & Heiss 1976, and Aradus rysakovi Kiritshenko 1951. Aradus wuzhisanensis Liu 1981from Hainan Province is synonymised with Aradus candidatus Bergroth 1889, a species known from Myanmar, Thailand, and Laos. A new species, Aradus gaoligongensis n. sp. from Sichuan Province, belongs to the “transiens”-group and is described and figured. In addition, new distribution data are given for 8 Aradus species.

This paper treats 225 species of Buprestidae in the genera Agrilus, Brachys, Callimicra, Cyphothorax, Dismorpha, Hylaeogena, Leiopleura, Lius, Omochyseus, Pachyschelus, Paragrilus, Taphrocerus and Trypantius. New country records are recorded for Mexico and all Central American countries. Agrilus vandenberghei Westcott and Hespenheide, new species, from Central America and Mexico, and the male of Agrilus eyai Westcott and Noguera are described and figured. Rational is provided for changing Agrilus aurilatera Waterhouse to A. aurilaterus; A. catherinae Chevrolat is shown to be a justified emendation of A. catharinae; A. complexus (Waterhouse) is a new combination; and A. consobrinus Dugès is synonymized with A. correctus Thompson.

The Neotropical genus Propetes Walker, 1851 currently includes three species recorded from Brazil and Guyana that share morphological characteristics related to wasp-mimicking behavior. A revision of available material of Amazonian Propetes was conducted, and a new species, P. sakakibara sp. nov., is described and illustrated herein based on males from Brazil, Peru, and Venezuela. Based on the association of males and females from Pará State (Brazil), a synonymy is proposed between P. triquetra (Fabricius, 1803) (previously known only from males) and P. compressa Walker, 1851 (previously known only from females). The female genitalia of P. triquetra is redescribed and illustrated in detail. Observation of bluffing display behavior is reported for the first time for the genus, in P. schmidti. A key to all species included in Propetes, based on males and females, and a map of distribution of Propetes species are provided, including new records of the genus from French Guiana, Peru, and Venezuela.

Rheumatobates urabaensis sp. nov. (Gerridae: Rhagadotarsinae) is described from a mangrove of the Colombian Caribbean region. R. urabaensis sp. nov. is differentiated from other species of the genus by features of the male antennae, fore legs, and genitalia. New distribution records are presented for R. bergrothi Meinert, R. crassifemur esakii Schroeder, and R. spinosus Hungerford. A key to the species of Rheumatobates from Colombia is also provided.

The taxonomy and natural history of the ant genus Adelomyrmex Emery is reviewed for the Central American region. Theyare small, litter-inhabiting ants most often collected in Berlese and Winkler samples. Although the genus and its relativeshave a pantropical distribution, Central American cloud forests are the only places where they are abundant and diverse.Several Adelomyrmex species are mountain-top endemics with very restricted ranges, and climate change clearly posesthe threat of mountain-top extinction. The 21 Mexican and Central American species are treated in some detail and a keyto the 26 mainland New World species is provided. Nine new species are described, eight from Mexico and Central Amer-ica (A. anxiocalor sp. nov., A. bispeculum sp. nov., A. dentivagans sp. nov., A. marginodus sp. nov., A. metzabok sp. nov.,A. nortenyo sp. nov., A. paratristani sp. nov., and A. quetzal sp. nov.) and one from the oceanic Isla del Coco in the easternPacific (A. coco sp. nov.). New synonymy is proposed for Adelomyrmex tristani (Menozzi, 1931) (= A. brevispinosus Fernández, 2003, syn. nov.).
