A new species of Yunnanilus is described from Tuojiang River, Sichuan, China. The new species, Yunnanilus jiuchiensis, can be distinguished from other species of Yunnanilus by the following combination of characters: processus dentiformis absent; body covered with scarce scales; lateral-line incomplete, as long as half the length of the pectoral-fin length, with 6–11 pores; eye diameter larger than interorbital width; and caudal-peduncle length less than its depth.

A new species of Metahomaloptera, M. longicauda, is described from the lower Jinsha River, China. The new species is distinguished from other species of Metahomaloptera by the following combination of characters: pectoral fin with 11– 15 branched rays, tip of pectoral fin extending beyond origin of dorsal fin, pelvic fin with 10–12 branched rays, pelvicfin tip reaching or extending beyond anus, dorsal fin inserting before middle of body, tip of dorsal fin far from vertical line of caudal-fin base, head width 19.4–22.6% SL, pre-pectoral length 8.4–9.9% SL, pre-anal length 69.0–74.3% SL, caudal peduncle length 17.1–20.7% SL, eye diameter 14.6–16.6% HL, caudal peduncle depth 33.7–43.1% caudal peduncle length, mouth width 63.2–75.5% body width at pectoral-fin origin.

Traccatichthys tuberculum, new species, is herein described from the Jian-Jiang, a coastal river in Guangdong Province,South China. Photo by Bosco P.L. Chan. This new species differs from all other Chinese congeners (i.e., T. pulcher and T.zispi) in interorbital width, caudal-peduncle length, and pectoral-fin length. It, together with T. zispi, lacks the colorpatterns of the dorsal and anal fins in T. pulcher, and differs from T. zispi in preanal length. Traccatichthys tuberculum,together with all other Chinese congeners, is distinct from the Vietnamese species, T. taeniatus, in the shape of the black bar on the caudal-fin base, and the color pattern of the anal fin.

Akysis bilustris, new species, is described from the Xe Kong drainage (a subdrainage of the Mekong River) in southern Laos. It is distinguished from congeners in having a unique combination of the following characters: eye diameter 14.0– 17.5% HL, serrae on posterior margin of pectoral spine 2–3 and longer than half width of spine, pectoral fin reaching to or overlapping pelvic-fin base (length 24.5–29.3% SL), adipose-fin base length 14.3–18.3% SL, body depth at anus 11.4– 13.8% SL, caudal-peduncle length 19.6–23.4% SL, caudal-peduncle depth 6.7–9.2% SL, caudal fin emarginate, and vertebrae 30–31.

A new gobioid fish Luciogobius yubai sp. nov. is described based on specimens collected from Wakayama and Shizuoka Prefectures, Japan. This species is distinguished from congeners by the following combination of characters; second dorsal-fin I, 9, anal-fin I, 10, pectoral-fin 17 or 18, vertebrate number 16+19=35, the first space between anterior two pterygiophores of second dorsal-fin placed the neural spines of vertebrae 17–18 or 17, four to seven developed dermal flaps under the eye longitudinally, posterior part of eye ridge protruded posteriorly, pectoral-fin with a long uppermost free ray, eye diameter 7.3–10.6 % of head length, pectoral-fin length 14.4–16.9 % of standard length (SL) , second dorsal-fin length 9.7–11.8 % SL, anal-fin ray length 9.1–11.1 % SL, pelvic-fin length 7.3–10.8 % SL, head and body with brownish orange coloration when alive or fresh.

Nine nominal, Indo-West Pacfic species are treated: Apogon fasciatus (White, 1790), Apogon quadrifasciatus Cuvier in Cuvier & Valenciennes, 1828, Apogon monogramma Günther, 1880, Apogon septemstriatus Günther, 1880, Apogon evanidus Fowler 1904, Apogon elizabethae (Jordan & Seale, 1905), Apogon quinquestriatus Regan, 1908, Apogon kiensis Jordan & Snyder, 1901 and Apogon bryx Fraser, 1998. Four species treated as valid have VII first-dorsal spines: Apogon fasciatus with two brownish stripes on each side of the head and body to caudal peduncle and a faint, variable stripe along a portion of the lateral-line, 16 (15) pectoral-fin rays, and 14–17 (12, 13 or 18) gill rakers, Apogon quinquestriatus with four brownish stripes on each side of head and body, two reaching the caudal peduncle, 15 pectoral-fin rays, and 15 gill rakers, Apogon septemstriatus with three brownish stripes on each side of head and body, three reaching the caudal peduncle, 14 (13) pectoral-fin rays, and 14–16 gill rakers, Apogon pleuron, new species, with two brownish stripes on each side of head and body reaching the caudal peduncle, ventral edge of midlateral stripe with vertical bars, 15 (14 or16) pectoral-fin rays, and 17–20 (15, 16 or 21) gill rakers. Two species treated as valid have VI first-dorsal spines: Apogon bryx with three brownish stripes on each side of head and body, two reaching the caudal peduncle, 14–15 pectoral-fin rays, and 22–23 (21 or 24) gill rakers, Apogon kiensis, with two brownish stripes on each side of head and body reaching the caudal peduncle, 14–15 pectoral-fin rays, and 16–18 (15 or 19-20) gill rakers. The long recognized name, Apogon quadrifasciatus, is synonymous with Apogon fasciatus.

A new species of Simpsonichthys is described from the upper rio Jequitinhonha basin, Minas Gerais, eastern Brazil. It is diagnosed from all congeners by presenting an A-patterned frontal squamation. Additionally, males of the new species differs from all congeners by the color pattern of body, the color of iris, the absence of contact organs in the pectoral fin, presence of scales on anal-fin base, pectoral-fin length, caudal fin length, and eye diameter. Females of the new species can be diagnosed from remaining congeners by the pectoral-fin length. The conservation status of the new species is evaluated. Comments on the relationships of the new species within the genus Simpsonichthys are presented.

Nothobranchius elucens, new species, from a seasonal habitat in the Aringa system of the Achwa River in the upper Nile drainage in northern Uganda, is described. It belongs to the N. rubroreticulatus species group, whose members are characterised by male coloration of anal and caudal fins with slender light blue subdistal band and slender dark distal band. Nothobranchius elucens is distinguished from all other members of the genus by the following characters in males: body colouration golden-grey with brown scale margins creating irregular vertical stripes on trunk; anal fin yellow with brown spots proximally, with slender brown median band, followed by a slender light blue subdistal band and a slender black distal band; caudal fin brown proximally and medially, followed by a slender light blue subdistal band and a slender black distal band; dorsal fin golden with irregular brown stripes and narrow light blue subdistal band and with narrow black distal band. Furthermore, it differs from the closest known relative, N. taiti, also by the morphometric characters of having a smaller head length of 29.5–33.1 % SL; smaller prepectoral length of 31.2–33.9 % SL; greater head depth of 81–87 % HL; greater interorbital width of 43–49 % HL; and greater caudal peduncle length of 145–152 in % of its depth.

Nandus andrewi sp. nov. is described from the Ichamati River in northeastern India. It differs from all congeners in having a bluish white (vs. mottled brown) body in life, and a combination of the following characters: body depth 24.3– 29.1% SL, pectoral fin length 15.1–18.5%, pelvic fin length 16.2–18.9% SL, eye diameter 18.3–21.7% HL, a dark spot on the caudal peduncle, and 45–52 lateral-line scales. A key to the species of Nandus is also provided.

A new species of scorpionfish, Phenacoscorpius mccoskeri, is described based on three specimens from the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador, eastern Pacific. The new species is distinguished from other species of Phenacoscorpius by the following combination of characters: 19–20 pectoral-fin rays, middle rays branched; 5–19 pored lateral-line scales; palatine teeth present; small slit behind fourth gill arch; second preopercular spine absent; and nuchal and parietal spines distinct; in addition to some morphometric characters, including head length and width, interorbital width, caudal-peduncle depth and postorbital length.

A new species of the family Nemacheilidae, Yunnanilus niulanensis, is described from the upper reach of the NiulanjiangRiver, a branch of the Jinsha River, in Songming County, Yunnan Province, China. It can be distinguished from all otherYunnanilus species by the combination of the following characters: dorsal fin rays iii, 9; anal fin rays iii, 5; pectoral finrays i, 11; pelvic fin rays i, 7–8; branched caudal fin rays 14; mouth subterminal; 9–11 gillrakers on the inner side of thefirst gill arch, no gillrakers on the outer side; upper two-thirds of body and head covered by large brown spots; fins hyaline;body covered with scales; no lateral line; no cephalic sensory pores; caudal-peduncle length less than caudal-peduncledepth; caudal-peduncle length 9.2–11.1 % SL; body depth 21.0–25.8 % SL; eye diameter 5.4–6.0 % SL; interorbital width 9.9–12.1 % SL.
