The genus Bubaces Distant, 1893 is reviewed and three new species are described: B. gloriosus sp. nov., from Costa Rica (Puntarenas Province) and Mexico (Campeche, Chiapas, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Veracruz), B. occidentalis sp. nov., from Mexico (Colima, Guerrero, Jalisco, and Michoacan) and B. rostralis sp. nov., from Mexico (Quintana Roo). Additional state faunistic records of the previously described species B. castaneus, B. convergens, B. enatus and B. uhleri are provided. Photographs of the dorsal habitus, the male genital capsule, and the parameres are included, as well as close up photos of the metathoracic scent glands of both sexes. A key to species of the genus is provided.

Three New Species

The Syrphidae genus Domodon Reemer, 2013 so far included two species, D. zodiacus Reemer, 2013 and D. peperpotensis Reemer, 2014, both recorded only from Suriname. Additional specimens belonging to this genus have been collected in many other localities in South and Central America. In this paper, the genus is revised and three new species are described: D. caxiuana sp. nov. (northern South America), D. inaculeatus sp. nov. (northern South America), and D. sensibilis sp. nov. (Costa Rica). The distribution of D. peperpotensis is extended to include French Guiana. Photographs of the type material of the new species and illustrations of male genitalia of all species are provided, as well as a key to species.

We describe three new species in the genus Glaphyrosoma: G. magnaproctalis n. sp., G. franciscoasturiasi n. sp. and G. hectorcentenoi n. sp. We provide new data on the distribution of G. karnyi, G. beretka and G. anderi in Guatemala. We propose G. bruneri as nomen dubium and we define the status of specimens recorded as G. gracile in Guatemala and Costa Rica. We also include a species distribution map of this genus with the information available to us up to date and a key to species.

The genusRhyncholeptaBergroth, 1911 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Pentatomidae: Pentatominae: Chlorocorini) is redescribed and five species-group taxa are recognized, keyed, their diagnostic characters illustrated, and the distribution reviewed. Among the five taxa, two species and one subspecies are recognized as new:RhyncholeptagrandicallosagrandicallosaBergroth, 1911 (Brazil, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname),Rhyncholeptagrandicallosacentroamericanasubsp. n.(Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama),Rhyncholeptahenryisp. n.(French Guiana),RhyncholeptameinanderiBecker & Grazia-Vieira, 1971 (Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru), andRhyncholeptawheelerisp. n.(Guyana). The structure of the male genital capsule was found to be the only reliable character for identifying species-group taxa. For this reason, a simultaneous application has been submitted to the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature to set aside the non-informative female lectotype ofRhyncholeptagrandicallosagrandicallosaand replace it with the male neotype suggested herein. Based on the available label data and our field experience, most of the specimens were collected by various types of light traps in or near dense forests. Adults can be collected throughout the year.

Original Information

Priotomis vinhai Tedesco, sp. nov., from the restingas of southeastern Brazil, P. echyrus Tedesco, sp. nov., from Mexico and Costa Rica, and Priotomis flammatus Tedesco, sp. nov., from Panama and Brazil, are described and illustrated. The monophyly of the genus and the relationships of its species were cladistically tested using implied weighting, in a matrix with 22 species, including four species of Priotomis, and 92 external structural characters. Concavity constants (K) from 1 to 6 were tested. All analyses recovered Priotomis as monophyletic. A redescription of Priotomis is presented, combining the original definition with original information, expanding the limits of the genus. All results indicate P. vinhai, sp. nov. as the basal-most species of the genus; all results with K=2–5 recovered the apical clade P. rana + (P. echyrus, sp. nov. + P. flammatus, sp. nov.). An updated key to species is presented. Additional distribution records are provided, expanding the known range of Priotomis to 41º11’ latitude degrees, from Mexico to Argentina.

Concise Description

Twenty-three new species of the genus Calolydella Townsend, 1927 (Diptera: Tachinidae) are described, all reared from multiple species of wild-caught caterpillars across a wide variety of families (Lepidoptera: Crambidae; Erebidae; Geometridae; Hesperiidae; Lycaenidae; Nymphalidae; Pieridae; Riodinidae; and Sphingidae). All caterpillars were collected within Area de Conservación Guanacaste (ACG), in northwestern Costa Rica. This study provides a concise description of each new species using morphology, life history, molecular data, and photographic documentation. In addition to the new species, we also provide a generic redescription and revised key to species of the genus Calolydella from Central and South America. The genus Robinsonia Grote, 1866 is partially reviewed following a large DNA barcode campaign. In the Robinsonia praphoea Dognin, 1906 group three new species are described: R. simulans sp. n. from French Guiana, up to now confused with R. praphoea itself and then R. decaensi sp. n. and R. maranhensis sp. n. both from the lower Amazon. R. drechseli sp. n. is described from Paraguay and R. inexpectata sp. n., a species close to R. mera (Schaus, 1910) from Costa Rica, is described as new from Peru and Bolivia. Finally the full species status is confirmed for R. flavicorpus Dognin, 1910 which is found to be differentiable from R. marginata Rothschild, 1909. All types are figured along with the male genitalia for most and some female genitalia for all studied species.

The genus Concavetettix Deng, gen. nov. (type species: Concavetettix yunnanensis Deng, sp. nov.) is described from Daweishan, Pingbian County, Yunnan Province, China. The genus Macromotettix Günther, 1939 is reviewed. Three new species of the genus, M. microptera Deng, sp. nov., M. zhengi Deng, sp. nov. and M. brachyptera Deng, sp. nov. are described with detailed illustrations of external morphology. One new name is proposed: Macromotettix napoensis Deng, nom. nov.. Additionally, an updated key to species of the genus Macromotettix is given.

The Brazilian species of Bittacus Latreille (Mecoptera: Bittacidae) are reviewed and one new synonym is proposed (Thyridates willmanni Collucci & Amorin syn. n. of Bittacus diversinervis Souza Lopes & Mangabeira). Three new species are herein described: Bittacus cruzi sp. n. from Amazonas, Presidente Figueiredo and Manaus, B. ferreirai sp. n. from Bahia, Aracatu and B. varzeanus sp. n. from Amazonas, Tefé, bringing the current number of Bittacus species in Brazil to 18. Illustrations, comments, and distribution maps of each species are presented. An identification key to the Brazilian genera of Mecoptera and Bittacus species is also presented.
