Spatial media for people who are blind or visually impaired (B/VI) have evolved considerably in the years following Chris Perkins’ review of tactile map research, especially due to the proliferation of Internet access, mobile computing, and GPS technology. Reviewing intervening research, I identify prevailing themes in cartographic data management, media production, map design, and map use. I then propose a research agenda that identifies four high-priority topics for investigation: research conducted by people who are B/VI, maps created by people who are B/VI, low-tech tactile mapping, and social dynamics of tactile map use and production.

Now a day’s mobile communication has become a serious business tool for the users. Mobile devices are mainly used for the applications like banking, e-commerce, internet access, entertainment, etc. for communication. This has become common for the user to exchange and transfer the data. However people are still facing problems to use mobile devices because of its security issue. Background. Social dynamics, specifically personalities, power dynamics, and emotions, have been shown to influence the methods, outputs, and quality of multi-stakeholder processes, especially the development of a national health research agenda. Objective and Methods. Using a case analysis approach utilizing related conceptual frameworks, the paper determined how personalities, power dynamics, and emotions affected the research priority-setting exercise, identified lessons learned, and recommended how to effectively manage these social dynamics in consultations. Data gathering methods were participant observation and process documentation, results of which were codified and analyzed. Results. Dominant personalities, stakeholders with power, and stakeholders that openly expressed dissatisfaction were most likely to attempt to change the methods and final outputs of the consultation, with varying level of success. Other dominant personalities used their power constructively for a smooth flow of generating and agreeing on ideas. Conclusion. In this case, social dynamics was shown to heavily influence the decision-making process, thus underlining its importance in organizing multisectoral representation. Effectively managing social dynamics may thus have to consider building trust and respect between participants, mediating discussions, reaching a mutually beneficial solution, and establishing and implementing mutually agreed house rules. The significant role of facilitators in developing a climate for truly inclusive participation must also be recognized.

Data management in mobile computing has emerged as a major research area, and it has found many applications. This research has produced interesting results in areas such as data dissemination over limited bandwidth channels, location- dependent querying of data, and advanced interfaces for mobile computers (Barbara, 1999). However, handling multimedia objects in mobile environments faces numerous challenges. Traditional methods developed for transaction processing (Silberschatz, Korth & Sudarshan, 2001) such as concurrency control and recovery mechanisms may no longer work correctly in mobile environments. To illustrate the important aspects that need to be considered and provide a solution for these important yet “tricky” issues in this article, we focus on an important topic of data management in mobile computing, which is concerned with how to ensure serializability for mobile-client data caching. New solutions are needed in dealing with caching multimedia data for mobile clients, for example, a cooperative cache architecture was proposed in Lau, Kumar, and Vankatesh (2002). The particular aspect considered in this article is that when managing a large number of multimedia objects within mobile client-server computing environments, there may be multiple physical copies of the same data object in client caches with the server as the primary owner of all data objects. Invalid-access prevention policy protocols developed in traditional DBMS environment will not work correctly in the new environment, thus, have to be extended to ensure that the serializability involving data updates is achieved in mobile environments. The research by Parker and Chen (2004) performed the analysis, proposed three extended protocols, and conducted experimental studies under the invalid-access prevention policy in mobile environments to meet the serializability requirement in a mobile client/server environment that deals with multimedia objects. These three protocols, referred to as extended server-based two-phase locking (ES2PL), extended call back locking (ECBL), and extended optimistic twophase locking (EO2PL) protocols, have included additional attributes to ensure multimedia object serializability in mobile client/server computing environments. In this article, we examine this issue, present key ideas behind the solution, and discuss related issues in a broader context.

<p>Meta data management practices often overlook the role social dynamics play in harnessing the value of an organisation’s unique business language and the behaviours it creates. Using evidence from literature, interviews and cognitive ethnography, this research case sets out to explain the impacts of meta data management on social dynamics. The emerging themes (that is, newness, continual adaption, engagement tension, production tension, inefficiency and unreliability) represent salient factors by which organisations can be constrained in exploiting the worth of their meta data. This research emphasises the critical importance of organisations having a deeper understanding of the purpose and meaning of information. This understanding is a strength for creating value and for exploiting the worth arising in networks and in the social dynamics created within those networks. This strength contributes to organisations’ economic growth and is interdependent with their ability to manage complex phenomenon in a growing interconnected society.</p>
