A pontszámokat a különböző csoportokban ANOVA segítségével hasonlítottuk össze. Az s allélt hordozók szignifikánsan magasabb pontszámot kaptak a ZSDS és a STAI állapotszorongás-skálán, valamint a depresszív komponenst hordozó affektívtemperamentum-skálákon is. Eredményeink szerint a neuroticismus komponensei önállóan is összefüggést mutatnak az 5-HTTLPR-polimorfizmussal, ami a vonás egységességét támasztja alá. Eredményeink rámutatnak további kutatások szükségességére az egészséges populációban megfigyelhető vonások genetikai hátterének feltárásával kapcsolatban, mivel ezek a neuropszichiátriai betegségek endofenotípusaiként a jövőbeli kutatások alapvető építőkövei lehetnek.

We used nondenaturing isoelectric focusing (IEF) in a survey of plants from 11 populations to identify style and pollen proteins unique to the short-styled morph of Turnera scabra, T. subulata and T. krapovickasii. Three protein bands [approximately isoelectric points (pIs) 6.1, 6.3 and 6.5] were found only in styles and stigmas of short-styled plants while two bands (approximately pIs 6.7 and 6.8, M  r 56 and 59 kD) occur only in pollen of short-styled plants. Some of these bands appear very late in development, within 24 hr before flowering. Two isozyme loci were mapped to an 8.7 cM region spanning the distyly locus. Using these isozyme markers we identified progeny exhibiting recombination adjacent to the distyly locus. No recombinants between the distyly locus and the locus or loci controlling the presence of the short-styled morph-specific proteins were obtained. This suggests that the loci encoding these proteins are either extremely tightly linked to the distyly locus and in complete disequilibrium with the S allele or exhibit morph-limited expression. Crosses to a plant showing an unusual style protein phenotype demonstrated that an additional unlinked locus is required for full expression of the style proteins. The function of the morph-specific proteins is unknown

AbstractNegative affect or stress is often found to increase energy intake for high palatable energy-rich foods and hence weight gain. Reduced brain serotonin (5-HT) function is known to increase stress vulnerability and the risk for eating-related disturbances. A short (S) allele polymorphism in the serotonin transporter gene (5-HTTLPR) is associated with a less efficient functioning brain serotonin system and therefore higher stress vulnerability. It has been suggested that this genotype may be directly linked to an increased risk for weight gain and/or obesity. However, a high amount of variability has been apparent in replicating such a direct gene on weight gain relationship. A most recent suggestion is that this gene by weight relationship might be moderated by an additional (cognitive) vulnerability factor involving repetitive negative thinking (rumination). Our objective was to investigate whether the S-allele of 5-HTTLPR contributes to weight gain particularly in high cognitive ruminating individuals. A total of 827 healthy young male and female college students (aged 21·3 (sd 3·0) years; BMI 16–41·7 kg/m2) were genotyped for the 5-HTTLPR polymorphism and assessed for rumination (Event Related Ruminative Index) and body weight. In line with the hypothesis, a hierarchical regression model showed that higher BMI scores were observed in specifically high ruminating S'-carriers (P=0·031, f²=0·022). These results suggest that cognitive rumination may be a critical moderator of the association between 5-HTTLPR and body mass.

IntroductionMaxillofacial surgeons and dentists often deal with the phenomenon of temporomandibular pain-dysfunction syndrome–painful condition of maxillofacial area without clear organic pathology. Psychiatric studies of this disorder are almost lacking. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of psychiatric disorders in patients with temporomandibular pain-dysfunction syndrome and to define the psychiatric diagnosis (ICD-10).MethodsStudy sample consists of 57 patients (44 women and 13 men) with temporomandibular pain-dysfunction syndrome aged older than 18 years, who gave inform consent. The study used clinical psychopathological, psychometric (HADS, HDRS, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Hypochondria Whitley Index, Visual Analog Scale for Pain).ResultsPsychiatric disorders were revealed in 48 patients (84.2%) with temporomandibular pain-dysfunction syndrome–39 women and 9 men aged 18-65 years (mean age 39.6 ± 15.4 years). Affective disorders was diagnosed in 56.3%, personality disorders in 20.8%, schizotypal personality disorder in 12.5% and schizophrenia in 10.4%. Among affective pathology mild and moderate depressive episodes prevailed (59.3%). The severity of pain (VAS) in patients with affective disorders was higher than in patients with other psychiatric conditions.ConclusionThis study shows high prevalence of psychiatric disorders in patients with temporomandibular pain-dysfunction syndrome and proves the feasibility of a psychiatrist participate in the complex treatment of these patients. The use of psychometric method allows to improve the timeliness of the detection of patients who require further clinical psychopathological examination in order to determine the need of pharmacotherapy.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.
