"Domestizierung lässt sich durch einen Nukleus aus drei technischen Tätigkeiten definieren: durch die gesteuerte Reproduktion, die eigens eingerichtete Ernährung und den Schutz von Tieren und Pflanzen vor Schädigungen. Wenn man diese Definition an einen Vergleich von Kulturen und Kollektiven anlegt, stellen sich zwei Überraschungen ein: Außerhalb jeder Domestizierung entwickeln Wildbeuter eine rituelle Domestizierung oder ein mythologisches Verständnis, ihre Welt sei bereits domestiziert. Und in der Moderne tritt an die Seite der technischen Domestizierung ihre mögliche Naturalisierung. Der Aufsatz zieht einige Konsequenzen aus diesem typologischen Vergleich. Domestication can be defined by a nucleus of three technical activities: controlled reproduction and nutrition as well as protection of animals and plants from damage. If one applies this definition to a comparison of cultures and collectives, two surprises arise: Without being in touch of any kind of domestication, hunter-gatherers develop a ritual domestication or a mythological understanding that their world already is domesticated. And in modernity, possible naturalization arises at the side of technical domestication. The paper draws some conclusions from this typological comparison. "

A 3-yr study demonstrates that commercially acceptable reproductive performance can be achieved in breeding sheep following the application of a fluorogestone-acetate- (FGA-) impregnated intravaginal sponge and pregnant mare's serum gonadotrophin (PMSG) treatment to induce a synchronized estrus under field conditions. Overall fertility, prolificacy and fecundity levels of 76%, 1.92 and 148%, respectively, resulted from breeding at the synchronized estrus, and 94%, 1.86 and 175%, respectively, due to breeding at the synchronized and subsequent estruses in the breeding (fall) season. In the nonbreeding (spring) season, these responses were 51%, 1.73 and 88%, respectively, at the synchronized estrus, and 63%, 1.61 and 109%, respectively, due to breeding at the synchronized and subsequent estruses. Significant farm-to-farm variation was observed with reproductive performance ranging from 77 to 100% for fertility, 1.45 to 2.74 for prolificacy, and 134 to 274% for fecundity in the estrous season. There were no significant differences among farms after synchronization and breeding during the anestrous season. BackgroundThe 2019-nCoV outbreak in Wuhan, China has attracted world-wide attention. As of February 11, 2020, a total of 44730 cases of novel coronavirus-infected pneumonia associated with COVID-19 were confirmed by the National Health Commission of China.MethodsThree approaches, namely Poisson likelihood-based method (ML), exponential growth rate-based method (EGR) and stochastic Susceptible-Infected-Removed dynamic model-based method (SIR), were implemented to estimate the basic and controlled reproduction numbers.ResultsA total of 71 chains of transmission together with dates of symptoms onset and 67 dates of infections were identified among 5405 confirmed cases outside Hubei as reported by February 2, 2020. Based on this information, we find the serial interval having an average of 4.41 days with a standard deviation of 3.17 days and the infectious period having an average of 10.91 days with a standard deviation of 3.95 days.ConclusionsThe controlled reproduction number is declining. It is lower than one in most regions of China, but is still larger than one in Hubei Province. Sustained efforts are needed to further reduce the Rc to below one in order to end the current epidemic.
