In this report, a case of malignant fibrous histiocytoma in a budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus) is described. At necropsy, a tumorous subcutaneous mass was noted to be located under the right wing at the level of humerus in a budgerigar. On microscopic examination, the tumor was composed of pleomorphic cells having mostly round to oval large nucleus. Presence of occasional bands composed of fibroblastoid cells were noted. Occasional giant cells and mitotic figures were also observed. Based on the microscopic findings, a diagnosis of malignant fibrous histiocytoma was made. The present case in an exotic bird was found to be interesting, since malignant fibrous histiocytomas are rare tumors of domestic animals and mostly seen in dogs.

A 25-year-old female presented with symptoms resembling those of critical mitral stenosis. Echocardiography revealed a left atrial mass without a stalk, which was suspected to be a left atrial myxoma. An irregular soft friable mass was found at surgery. It measured 10 × 8 cm, with finger-like extensions and occupied almost the entire left atrial cavity, extending into the three tributaries of the right pulmonary vein. Histopathology of the excised tumor including electron microscopy showed a pleomorphic cytology interlaced with bundles, areas of necrosis, and occasional bizarre tumor giant cells. Characteristic histiocytes containing lysosomes identified the tumor as malignant fibrous histiocytoma. A postoperative course of radiotherapy with a dose of 4,000 cGy/20 fractions was applied to the mediastinum. At follow-up 4 months later the patient was asymptomatic. This case is reported because of the extreme rarity of left atrial malignant fibrous histiocytoma.

Purpose To present a case of intraocular invasion by an orbital malignant fibrous histiocytoma. Methods Case report. Case Report An 84-year-old man was exenterated due to a malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the right orbit. On image investigation and histologic sections, the tumor entirely filled the right eye and orbit. The patient died of intracranial spread of the lesion. Conclusions Fibrous histiocytoma of the orbit can invade the eye.

Abstract Benign fibrous histiocytoma is a rare and usually painless oral neoplasm found in adults that may affect either soft tissue or bone typically noted in their fifth decade. This case was found in a 32 year-old Caucasian male who presented with a fairly well circumscribed unilocular radiolucent lesion extending from the mandibular right first incisor to the left first premolar and reaching the inferior mandible on a panoramic radiograph. A bony window was created and the intrabony lesion was curetted. Multiple sections revealed a cellular tumor composed of uniform spindle-shaped cells arranged in a prominent whorled or storiform pattern. Scattered xanthoma cells, multinucleated giant cells, lymphocytes, and deposits of hemosiderin were noted throughout the lesional stroma. Although malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the bone is relatively well known, benign fibrous histiocytoma of the bone is very rare. Citation Ertas U, Büyükkurt MC. Malignant primary tumors of the heart are very rare and in most cases are located in the left side of the heart, but involvement of the moderator band of the right heart has not yet been described in the literature. We report the case of a 22-year-old woman who presented after an episode of transient sudden loss of consciousness. The transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and transesophageal echocardiography evaluations showed an echogenic mass that originated in the right ventricle and protruded into the tricuspid valve during systole. While operating on the patient, we found a sessile tumor that originated exclusively from the moderator band of the right ventricle. The tumor was completely resected through the tricuspid valve. An immunohistochemistry examination of the tumor confirmed the diagnosis of a malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) (undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma). To our knowledge, this case is the first of moderator band involvement among the 50 cases of primary MFH of the heart that have been reported in the literature. After a year and a half, TTE, computed tomography (CT), and positron emission tomography CT (PET-CT) showed the absence of cardiac tumor, a normal tricuspid function, and no metastasis. The completeness of the surgical resection and the absence of local recurrence >1 year after surgery are encouraging signs for the patient's outcome.
