The male terminalia of a non-type Diathoneura longipennis (Malloch 1926) specimen,collected in Peru, were dissected and analyzed. The aedeagus and associated sclerites were found tohave been fixed at a late stage of protrusion, resulting in a different morphology, when compared to thetwo previous publications, which were fixed at earlier stages. Consequently, additional details of certainanatomical parts were observed and a better understanding of the aedeagus protruding process was attained.Diathoneura longipennis has been previously identified in San Mateo, Alajuela, Costa Rica (type locality)and Panama, and this specimen represents the first record of this species in South America.

A new genus of lichenized fungi of the family Porinaceae is described, known from Costa Rica and Brazil. Flabelloporina Sobreira, M. Cáceres & Lücking is a thus far monospecific genus with an isolated position of its only species in the family, morphologically different from all other genera in Porinaceae. The genus is characterized by the production of numerous, flabelliform squamules on the surface of the thallus, together with black perithecia and transversally septate ascospores (with three septa in the only species). The new combination Flabelloporina squamulifera (Breuss, Lücking & Navarro) Sobreira, M. Cáceres & Lücking is proposed, based on Porina squamulifera Breuss, Lücking & Navarro, and the species is for the first time reported from Brazil.

We present the first record of the Clay-colored Sparrow (Spizella pallida) in Costa Rica. An adult bird was recorded ca. 900 Km south of its common wintering range. This represents the first record of the species for the country and for southern Central America.

Two new species of Taraxippus Moxey, 1971 are described and illustrated: T. samaraesp. nov. from Costa Rica and Panama and T. perezgelabertisp. nov. from the Dominican Republic. Both sexes and the previously unknown eggs are described. The genus is recorded from Central America for the first time. A distribution map and a discussion of the distributional pattern of Taraxippus are provided.

A New Species

A new species of bee fly of the genus Chrysanthrax Osten Sacken, C. pennyi, n. sp., is described and illustrated. It was reared from the larva of a myrmeleontid, which marks the first record of parasitism by the genus of that family. The pupal exuvium is described and illustrated and a key to species known from Central America is given.

A New Species

A new species of parasitoid wasp, Meteorus oviedoi Shaw and Nishida (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), is described from the Central Valley of Costa Rica. The new species is diagnosed and compared to other species in the genus. It was reared from larvae of Venadicodia caneti (Lepidoptera: Limacodidae) on leaves of Licaria triandra (Lauraceae). The parasitoid is gregarious and modifies the behavior of its host. This is the first record of a Meteorus species attacking Limacodidae in Costa Rica.Una nueva especie, Meteorus oviedoi Shaw and Nishida (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) es descrita para Valle Central de Costa Rica. La especie es analizada y comparada con otras especies del género. Los especimenes fueron criados de larvas de Venadicodia caneti (Lepidoptera: Limacodidae), encontradas en hojas de Licaria triandra (Lauraceae). El parasitoide es gregario y modifica comportamiento del hospedero.

Furipterus horrens is an insectivorous bat that occurs from Costa Rica to southeastern Bolivia and southern Brazil, with records in the Amazon, Caatinga, Cerrado and Atlantic Forest biomes. Despite this broad distributional range across South America, the species is currently known from few localities, and its habitat preferences are poorly known. We report the first record of Furipterus horrens for the Tocantins state, northern Brazil, based on four individuals collected in two caves surrounded by Neotropical savanna (Cerrado) in the Aurora do Tocantins municipality.
