The fiber Bragg grating sensor is widely used in strain monitoring of large metal structure and trend to replace the resistance strain gauge due to its advantages of strong stability, high measurement accuracy, multiple points measuring, strong environmental suitability and long transmission distance. The temperature-induced strain, which can have the same order of magnitudes as the mechanically-induced strain, will cause great errors in the strain monitoring. Therefore, the temperature compensation for the sensors is essential to guarantee the measurement accuracy. The existing theoretical models and experiment platforms for analyzing the temperature compensation are established by assuming that the testing temperature is constant. However, the surrounding temperature of some large metal structure is not stable, and the effect of temperature change cannot be neglected. This paper aims to establish an analytic model and an experiment platform to compare the temperature compensation of the fiber bragg grating sensor and the resistance strain gauge. The superiority of the temperature compensation for the fiber bragg grating sensor is verified. The result provides theoretical support for choosing the fiber bragg grating sensor in the long-time strain monitoring.

Optical spectrum analyzer (OSA) can achieve the higher precision and sensitivity, but it is disadvantageous for translating optical signal into electrical signal. A fiber Bragg grating (FBG) matched filtering system based on equi-intensity cantilever beam was presented in this paper. Strain characteristics in different location of cantilever beam were described, and the strain sensitivity of matching grating demodulation based on equi-intensity cantilever beam was deduced mathematically. Strain characteristics of cantilever beam were verified, and the sensing effect of the system was tested. The Bragg wavelength shift range of the demodulating FBG placed on the cantilever beam reached 10 nm, and scanning velocity was 0.125 nm/s. The system could demodulate slow-altered sensing signal accurately and rapidly.

In order to verify the role of fiber bragg grating strain gauge in strain measurement of concrete bridge, and the influence of concrete and steel strain properties by fatigue loading, the relevant experimental researches were carried out. The results indicated that the Fiber Bragg grating strain gauge could reflect the strain regularity of concrete and steel well; for the fiber grating strain rosettes inside the concrete, the pasting equipments of fiber gratings had a certain impact of the measurement effect. The fatigue loading had a certain impact of the properties of concrete and steel, in conditions of the same number of fatigue, the greater the stress amplitude the more obvious the effects. The results analysis shown that, fiber grating strain measurement innovated the means and methods of strain measurement in detailed structure of the concrete bridge, for the strain measurements of concrete bridge under fatigue loading, the FBG could still play very good effect.
