Background: ShcA, a scaffolding protein, generates signalspecificity by docking to activated tyrosine kinases through distinct phosphotyrosine recognition motifs, while mediating signal complexity through formation of diverse downstream phosphotyrosine complexes. Mammalian ShcA encodes 3 isoforms having a modular architecture of a PTB domain and SH2 domain, separated by a CH1 region containing tyrosine phosphorylation sites important in Ras-MAPK activation. Objective and Methods: ShcA has a necessary role in cardiovascular development^1,2. However, the role of ShcA in the adult myocardium is largely unknown, also unclear, is how ShcA uses its signaling modules to mediate downstream signaling. To this end, cre/loxP technology was employed to generate a conditional ShcA allele series. The myocardial specific ShcA KO (ShcA CKO) and myocardial restricted domain mutant KI mice were generated using cre expressed from the mlc2v locus^3 coupled with the ShcA floxed allele and in combination with the individual ShcA domain mutant KI alleles^2. Results: ShcACKO mice develop a dilated cardiomyopathy phenotype by 3 months of life, typified by depressed cardiac function and enlarged chamber dimensions. Isolated cardiomyocytes from ShcA CKO mice have preserved contractility indicating an uncoupling between global heart function and single myocyte contractile mechanics. Force-length experiments suggest that the loss of shcAmediates the uncoupling through deregulation of extracellular matrix interactions. Subsequent, analysis of the ShcA myocardial restricted domain mutant KImice suggests that ShcA requires PTB domain docking to upstream tyrosine kinases and subsequent phosphorylation of the CH1 tyrosines important for downstream signaling. Conclusion: ShcA is required for proper maintenance of cardiac function, possibly regulation of extracellular matrix interactions. References: 1. Lai KV, Pawson AJ. Rhoades (1996) proved a fixed point theorem in a boundedD-metric space for a contractive self-map with applications. Here we establish a more general fixed point theorem in an unboundedD-metric space, for two self-maps satisfying a general contractive condition with a restricted domain ofxandy. This has been done by using the notion of semicompatible maps inD-metric space. These results generalize and improve the results of Rhoades (1996), Dhage et al. (2000), and Veerapandi and Rao (1996). These results also underline the necessity and importance of semicompatibility in fixed point theory ofD-metric spaces. All the results of this paper are new.

Based on the studies on the Hyers-Ulam stability and the orthogonal stability of some Pexider-quadratic functional equations, in this paper we find the general solutions of two quadratic functional equations of Pexider type. Both equations are studied in restricted domains: the first equation is studied on the restricted domain of the orthogonal vectors in the sense of Rätz, and the second equation is considered on the orthogonal vectors in the inner product spaces with the usual orthogonality.

Single-bubble sonoluminescence (SBSL) is a light-emission event from a stably oscillating bubble trapped at the pressure anti-node of a standing ultrasound wave, a phenomenon that has been studied intensively for a decade [1]. Using ceramic piezoelectric transducers PZT, we are able to irradiate a liquid inside a resonator flask by means of an ultrasound wave, and we eventually capture a bubble inside a restricted domain in the aqueous medium. The trapped bubble will expand and collapse at an accelerated rate, emitting light. To capture the bubble we perform some experiments using differently sized and shaped piezoelectric transducers, and we manage to verify their capacitance and impedance behavior in our sonoluminescence circuit. Our experiments were performed at Laboratory of Experimental and Applied Physics (LaFEA) at CEFET-RJ.

Este paper descreve um esquema de segurança chamado Dark Thing Security, para ser utilizado no modelo de arquitetura autõnoma sobre um domínio restrito. Tal esquema provê segurança forte devido a sua capacidade de esconder os agentes inteligentes, da implementação do modelo. Vários agentes inteligentes são distribuídos no ambiente de um Sistema Autõnomo, sendo acessado somente através de agentes da camada superior. Tais agentes da camada superior, denominados controladores são substituidos por outros mais habilitados, ao longo do tempo, dificultando tentativas de acesso por agentes não autorizados, a partir de outros domínios.
