Abstract In the present article we deal with the Dirichlet problem for a class of degenerate anisotropic elliptic second-order equations with L1-right-hand sides in a bounded domain of ℝn(n ⩾ 2) . This class is described by the presence of a set of exponents q1,…, qn and a set of weighted functions ν1,…, νn in growth and coercitivity conditions on coefficients of the equations. The exponents qi characterize the rates of growth of the coefficients with respect to the corresponding derivatives of unknown function, and the functions νi characterize degeneration or singularity of the coefficients with respect to independent variables. Our aim is to investigate the existence of entropy solutions of the problem under consideration.

The paper deals with the Dirichlet problem for a model nonlinear degenerate anisotropic elliptic second-order equation. Anisotropy and degeneration (with respect to the independent variables) is characterized by the presence of different exponents q1 , q2 and weighted functions |x|^q1 та |x|^q2 in the left side of the equation. The main result of the paper is theorem on the existence of the generalized solution of the Dirichlet problem under consideration.

Abstract We consider a Cauchy problem for nonlinear parabolic equations with functional dependence. We prove convergence theorems for a general quasilinearization method in two cases: (i) the Hale functional acting only on the unknown function, (ii) including partial derivatives of the unknown function.

One of the basic equations of mathematical physics (for instance function of two independent variables) is the differential equation with partial derivatives of the second order (3). This equation is called the wave equation, and is provided when considering the process of transverse oscillations of wire, longitudinal oscillations of rod, electrical oscillations in a conductor, torsional vibration at waves, etc… The paper shows how to form the equation (3) which is the equation of motion of each point of wire with abscissa x in time t during its oscillation. It is also shown how to determine the equation (3) in the task of electrical oscillations in a conductor. Then equation (3) is determined, and this solution satisfies the boundary and initial conditions.

SynopsisWe study the existence of solutions of the Dirichlet problem for weakly nonlinear elliptic partial differential equations. We only consider cases where the nonlinearities do not depend on any partial derivatives. For these cases, we prove the existence of solutions for a wide variety of nonlinearities.
