The quadrupole hyperfine interactions of 111Cd/111 In probe nuclei in single-crystalline SrTiO3 perovskite samples were investigated using Perturbed Angular Correlation spectroscopy. Three electric field gradients were detected and their fractions and hyperfine parameters were measured in the temperature range from 26 to 700 K. The fraction f0 having a vanishing quadrupole frequency, as expected for 111Cd on substitutional sites in a cubic lattice, starts to develop around 300 K and reaches 100% at 700 K. Two well-defined EFG's having closely lying quadrupole frequencies and asymmetry parameters of ωQi = 49.1(3) Mrad/s, 77, η0= 0.10(2) and ωQ2 = 51.8(3) Mrad/s, η2 = 0.12(2), at room temperature, were identified in the temperature range from 250 to 530 K, and their (100) orientation in the lattice was determined. They are associated with electronic defects at the probe atoms.

We have measured the hyperfine interactions in YbVO4 and YbPO4 using 172Yb perturbed angular correlation spectroscopy for 90 -1094 keV and 1094 -79 keV γ-γ cascades. The quadrupole interaction frequency varied with temperature from 0 to 2 GHz. Precise information was obtained from both cascades independently even using the cascade with the intermediate state of the half life as short as 1.6 ns.

ABSTRACTPerturbed Angular Correlation spectroscopy of 181Ta nuclei occupying cation sites has been used to investigate microscopic structural properties of several pure and stabilized zirconia materials. The PAC spectra are used to derive the electric field gradients at the tracer nucleus. Thse are compared with calculations based on a simple point-ion model. Agreement between experiment and theory is good for stabilized material and qualitatively reasonable for pure zirconia.

ABSTRACTComplex formation at indium and cadmium impurities implanted into samples of 3C-, 4H-and 6H- SiC was investigated by means of Perturbed Angular Correlation (PAC)-Spectroscopy. After annealing at 1600 K up to five different configurations characterized by their specific electric field gradients (EFG(i)) were observed in 6H- SiC, only four complexes in 4H- SiC; in the 3C- modification no complex was observed. All EFG's are axially symmetric and are oriented along the c- axis of the crystal. In a highly nitrogen doped 6H- SiC epi- layer an new EFG was observed. It is tentatively assigned to a close indium- nitrogen pair.
