The preparation and chemical properties of barium-oxocuprat (I) inclusive the results of the crystal structure determination by single crystal X-ray investigations are described. BaCu2O2 crystallizes isotypically with SrCu2O2 . (a = 5.72 and c = 10.06 Å. Spacegroup : D194h - 141/amd.) The influence of the bigger Ba2⨁-ion on the oxigenconfiguration surrounding the cations is discussed. It seems that the stretched O - Cu - O-dumbell is an invariable structural element in the oxocompounds of copper (I), which is shown by comparison of already known oxocuprates (I) . Only the way of interchainment varies evidently with stoichiometry.

Rhodium- catalysed reactions of o- or p- cyano-N-allylanilines with H2/CO give N- arylpyrrolidine aldehydes resulting from a double hydroformylation sequence. In contrast reactions of o- or p-methyl-N-allylanilines or N- allylaniline itself with H2/CO give ' dimeric ' compounds resulting from self-condensation reactions of an initially formed hydroformylation product together with varying amounts of the double hydroformylation product. Similar reactions of o-cyano-N-but-3-enylanilines give low yields of double hydroformylation products and major products arising from hydrogenation or cross coupling of intermediate enamines. The structure of one of these products, N-2-cyanophenyl-5-(N′-2-cyanophenyl-3-methyl-pyrrolidin-2-yl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyridine (17) (IUPAC name: 2-[5-{1-(2-cyanophenyl)-3-methylpyrrolidin-2-yl}-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyridin-1-yl] benzonitrile ) was confirmed by an X-ray single-crystal structure determination.

The cobalt complex [{K(18-crown-6)}2(C5H5)]- [Co(C8H12)2]・(THF)2 (3) has been synthesized and characterized by X-ray single-crystal structure determination. The crystal structure of Co(C8H12)(C8H13) (2) has been reinvestigated and compared with the structure of 3. The 1,5-cyclooctadiene (C8H12) and C8H13 ligands are coordinated in an η4 and η3 fashion, respectively. The cyclopentadienyl anion in [{K(18-crown-6)}2(C5H5)]+ in 3 is η5-coordinated to the two crown ether-encapsulated potassium cations

AbstractThis study presents the first crystal-structure determination of natural MgCO3·5H2O, mineral lansfordite, in comparison with previous structural works performed on synthetic analogues. A new prototype single-crystal X-ray diffractometer allowed us to measure an extremely small crystal (i.e. 0.020 mm × 0.010 mm × 0.005 mm) and refine anisotropically all non-hydrogen atoms in the structure and provide a robust hydrogen-bond arrangement. Our new data confirm that natural lansfordite can be stable for several months at room temperature, in contrast with previous works, which reported that such a mineral could be stable only below 10°C.

Abstract Ethyl 5-oxo-3-(4-toluidino)-2,5-dihydro-4-isoxazolecarboxylate was prepared from the reaction of diethyl 2-(4-toluidinocarbothioyl)malonate with hydroxylamine. Its reaction with 2- chlorobenzoxazole gave the corresponding N-substituted isoxazolone. The structure of the final product 4 was confirmed by IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, and by X-ray single crystal structure determination.
