Based on the traditional cradle-type spiral bevel gear machining theory, the mathematical model of tilt machining method for the pinion member of spiral bevel gear pair is created. Then, by applying coordinate transformation method from crade-type machine to CNC one, a five-axis virtual CNC machine model is established by VERICUT software. at the same time, the pinion cutting simulation is carried out under VERICUT according the properties of the general five-axis CNC system and the relevant configuration parameters. By using this method, the accuracy of the bevel gear cutting system based on a general five-axis CNC can be well verified.

In this study, design and analysis of a gantry-type 5-axis CNC machine tool is presented with experimental results on a manufactured prototype. Critical points in the design of a large-scaled and heavy-duty machine tool is discussed. Moreover, FE analysis results is also presented with detailed discussion. The measurement results on structural dynamics is shown together with the FE results. Furthermore, the final performance of the machine tool is demonstrated thorough position and velocity measurements of the axes.

The deformation of constant flow and closed type hydrostatic rotary table of heavy duty CNC machine tool has a great influence on the film thickness because of its large diameter, high load-bearing. According to the circular plate deformation theory of elasticity, differential equations of worktable deformation are derived in the simply supported conditions when bearing uniform force of different locations. Displacement curves of worktable are obtained. Force and deformation weaknesses of hydrostatic rotary table are found, which can provide theory basis for supporting location of heavy workpiece machining and whether oil film is failure or not.

An algorithm for synthesis of spiral bevel gear transmissions with a small shaft angle is presented. The algorithm of synthesis provides machine-tool settings with account of design limits for majority of gear generating machines. The proposed algorithm makes it possible to decrease the dimensions of machines that are used for gear and pinion tooth generation. The computer program of synthesis is developed that is based on described algorithm. Recommendations on selection of proper synthesis parameters are presented. An example of synthesis and analysis of a transmission is considered.
