Abstract: Authors present a case of acute renal failure and hyponatraemia caused by a secretory tubulovillous adenoma of the colon, the rare so called McKittrick-Wheelock syndrome. A 75 year old woman was in need of treatment many times on medical wards because of watery diarrhoea, severe dehydration, hydroelectrolyte disturbance. The authors keep their case to be worthy to present, owing to the syndrome’s rarity and difficulties of differential diagnosis. Orv Hetil. 2017; 158(18): 711–714.

Acute pretreatment tumor lysis syndrome is a rare complication of cancer. Early recognition and aggressive management are mandatory for prevention of the adverse sequelae of the syndrome. Here we present 2 cases of pretreatment tumor lysis syndrome, concluding that this clinical entity should be in the differential diagnosis of acute renal failure associated with malignancy, as early recognition is in fact the mainstay of treatment.

Ureteral involvement by endometriosis is a rare and often silent disease but capable of producing significant morbidity and leading to hydronephrosis and to renal failure. Surgery is the treatment of choice to remove endometriotic lesions and relieve ureteral obstruction if the kidney is still functional or a nephrectomy is performed if there is a complete loss of renal function. We report a case of acute renal failure induced ureteral endometriosis managed with laparoscopic unilateral nephrectomy and endometrioma cystectomy. Differential diagnosis is important to confirm diagnosis for patients with ureteral obstruction presenting nonspecific symptoms.

A German businessman developed acute watery diarrhoea after a three-day trip to the Philippines. He was admitted with severe hypotension and acute renal failure, but recovered with rapid rehydration. Vibrio cholerae O1 serotype Ogawa was isolated. Physicians need to be aware of endemic cholera in Asia including the Philippines and consider this in their pre-travel advice.
