This note extends the geographical distribution of two rare species of Mantispidae (Neuroptera) in Minas Gerais state, Brazil. This is the first record of Gerst­aeckerella irrorata and the second record of Plega zikani for the state.

We present a new record of the Crested Eagle, Morphnus guianensis (Daudin, 1800), a rare forest eagle of the Neotropics on 22 May 2012 at a Cerrado area in Minas Gerais state, southeastern Brazil. The species has only two historical records in the state, both at areas formerly covered by Atlantic Forest. The finding raises the expectations for the maintenance of the species in the state, stressing the fact that this is the first species record in a Cerrado area in Eastern Brazilian states.

Abstract The importance of continuously conducting botanical inventories has been questioned in recent decades, generating a lack of investment and interest in this area. However, several applied studies are only possible after obtaining the primary data from such surveys. Despite having the greatest richness of plants known in Brazil, several areas with knowledge gaps remain in Minas Gerais (MG) state. This is the case for the Serra da Mantiqueira, an important area for biodiversity conservation in the country. In this scenario, the phytophysiognomy of Seasonal Semi-deciduous Forest (SSF) deserves attention, as it is broadly distributed and has great relevance in the state, although subsampled. Therefore, this study aimed to present records of species for the flora of MG and discuss the need for floristic surveys in Brazil. These species were recorded in three of 10 studied remnants along expeditions performed between the years of 2012 and 2019 as part of a wide study performed in SSF remnants in the Serra da Mantiqueira which have a deficit of floristic data. Three species are recorded for the first time in MG, one species was rediscovered after more than two centuries from the last collection (which represents its nomenclatural type), in addition to nine other species which must be considered rare in the state. This study contributed to filling gaps in knowledge on Brazilian flora and also demonstrated the relevance of continuing new collections, mainly in specific subsampled areas in the interior of the country such as in SSF remnants.

Herein we provide new records of the leaf litter frogs Ischnocnema verrucosa and I. surda for the state of Minas Gerais, Southeast of Brazil. Our records fill the current gap in the geographic distribution of I. verrucosa in the east of Minas Gerais, and extend the distribution of I. surda in about 117 km straight southeast of its type locality. We also provide discussions regarding diagnose characters of I. surda.

Abstract Senna comprises about 350 species worldwide, of which 80 species occur in Brazil. This work brings an update taxonomic treatment of Senna species in the state of Minas Gerais, the second most diverse state for the genus, through the morphological analysis of about 2,348 specimens from herbaria and fieldwork. Thirty-six species and 29 varieties were recognized, including 34 native species and 2 cultivated species. Of the 39 species reported in literature for the state, but 4 species were excluded from the list produced. The occurrence of Senna acuruensis was confirmed; S. macranthera var. striata and S. pilifera var. tubata are new records, and S. hirsuta var. acuminata is endemic to Minas Gerais. There are 28 species in the Cerrado, 26 species in the Atlantic Forest and 20 species in the Caatinga. The distribution of Senna pentagonia var. pentagonia is extended to include the Atlantic Forest. Identification keys, descriptions, illustrations, taxonomic comments and geographic distribution are provided for the species and varities.

New collection efforts in the limestone caves of Parque Nacional Cavernas do Peruaçu, Minas Gerais state, Brazil, has brought to light specimens belonging to three orthalicoid land snail species previously unrecorded from that state: Kora nigra Simone, 2015 and Kora rupestris Salvador & Simone, 2016 (Bulimulidae), and Leiostracus subtuszonatus (Pilsbry, 1899) (Simpulopsidae). All the above species were previously known from very restricted areas or just from their type locality. A possible record of Streptartemon aff. cookeanus (F. Baker, 1914) (Streptaxidae) is also reported herein.

We report from three localities four new records of the threatened Brazilian Atlantic Forest endemic Chaetomys subspinosus (Olfers, 1818). These are the first records of this porcupine species from the state of Minas Gerais, and these new data extend the distribution of this species by approximately 220 km to the southwest. As C. subspinosus was observed in areas of transitional vegetation, this species may be found in a much broader spectrum of habitat types than previously thought. We recommend further surveys focusing on documenting this species.

Resumo. Foi verificado um surto populacional do ácaro Tetranychus ogmophallos Ferreira & Flechtmann em plantas de amendoim forrageiro, Arachis pintoi Krapov. & Greg. cv. Belmonte, em consórcio com pastagem, no Município de Rio Branco, Estado do Acre, Brasil e em A. pintoi no Município de Sete Lagoas, MG. No Acre, as plantas estavam recobertas por densa teia e com nítida perda de área fotossintetizante e amarelecimento. Também foi observado que o gado não se alimentava das plantas infestadas. Este se constitui no primeiro registro de T. ogmophallos no Estado de Minas Gerais e o primeiro surto populacional desta espécie no Estado do Acre. Infestation of Tetranychus ogmophallos Ferreira & Flechtmann (Acari: Tetranychidae) in Plants of Forage Peanut in Acre and Minas Gerais States, BrazilAbstract. A populational outbreak of mite Tetranychus ogmophallos Ferreira & Flechtmann was found on forage peanut plant, Arachis pintoi Krapov. & Greg. cv. Belmonte, in consortium with pasture in Rio Branco municipality, Acre State and Sete Lagoas municipality, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. In Acre state the plants were covered with dense web and had accented loss of photosynthetic area and yellowing. It was also observed that cattle were not feeding on infested plants. This constitutes the first record of T. ogmophallos in the state.

We report the first record of Euphorbia pedersenii (Euphorbiaceae) for Brazil, a rare species previously known from a few localities in Argentina. The species belongs to Euphorbia sect. Nummulariopsis and is characterized by its small habit with a well-developed tuberous root system, usually linear leaves, trapezoidal cyathial glands, and pubescent ovary and fruit. In the state of Rio Grande do Sul it grows in open grasslands of the Pampa region, a phytogeographic domain severely impacted by agriculture. We provide an assessment of the conservation status and geographical distribution and habitat of E. pedersenii, along with an identification key to the species of sect. Nummulariopsis occurring in Brazil.

Oxyurella longicaudis (Birgei 1910), a species of Chydoridae family, is widely distributed in South and North America. Samples were collected from 40 water bodies in five conservation-priority regions in the south of Minas Gerais state, Brazil, aiming to increase knowledge about Cladocera distribution in this region. O. longicaudis was recorded in three of the 40 sampled water bodies. It is the first record of this species in the state.

Pseudoryzomys simplex (Winge, 1887) is a widely distributed rodent in South America, yet it is difficult to capture. In Brazil, it occurs in open areas such as the Chaco, Cerrado, and Caatinga. In the present study, using analyses of owl pellets, we extend the distribution of this species by more than 400 km to southeastern Minas Gerais state, Brazil. This is the first record in the state from the Atlantic Forest and the first record from the municipality of Carangola, which has a Semidecidual Seasonal Forest phytophysiognomy.
