Cercosaura argulus (Peters, 1863) is widely spread throughout much of the Brazilian Amazon and its neighboring countries. This paper presents the first record of this species in the state of Maranhão, extending its known geographical distribution by 320 kilometers south from Apeú in Pará, and the first record for the northeast region of Brazil.

This study reports the first record of Passiflora pedata L. (Passifloraceae) from the state of Maranhão and from the Northeast Region of Brazil. The species was collected in the municipality of Buriticupu, which is located in a remnant of Amazon Forest in western Maranhão. This work adds to the knowledge of the flora of Maranhão and the distribution of P. pedata in the Brazilian Amazon.

INTRODUCTION: We report the first find of Lutzomyia longipalpis in the State of Paraná, Brazil. METHODS: The specimens were captured in the urban area of the municipality of Foz do Iguaçu, with Falcão light traps, in domiciliary and peridomiciliary areas of 61 properties, on two consecutive nights from 18:00 to 06:00hs in March 2012. RESULTS: We captured 40 specimens of Lu. longipalpis and 54 specimens of other sandfly species. CONCLUSIONS: This find expands knowledge of the geographical distribution of this sandfly in Brazil.

We present the first record of the Dipsadidae snakes Xenopholis scalaris for the state of Rio de Janeiro and a general distribution map for this species. This record for the Brazilian Atlantic Forest expands the known geographical distribution of X. scalaris and reveals that its populations might not be isolated or disjunctive, but rather rare in this biome. We also provide some recommendations for future conservation of X. scalaris.

During an inventory fieldwork carried out at Usina Salgado property in the county of Ipojuca, Pernambuco, Brazil, we captured a Lionycteris spurrelli specimen in a forest fragment known as Mata do Mingú (8° 31' 29" S and 35° 03' 26" W). This marks the first occurrence for the northeast region and therefore, the first record for the state of Pernambuco, widening its distribution area within Atlantic Forest. The extension of the occurrence area points out this record as being the oriental limit for the species.

A New Species

A new species of Cladochaeta Coquillett (Diptera: Drosophilidae) is described, C. caxiuana sp. nov. from the Brazilian Amazon, based on 10 male and 10 female specimens obtained from nymphs of Sphodroscarta trivirgata (Amyot & Serville, 1843) (Hemiptera: Auchenorrhyncha: Aphrophoridae). The female of Cladochaeta atlantica Pirani & Amorim, 2016 is described based on specimens reared from spider egg sacs of the spider Cryptachaea migrans (Keyserling, 1884) (Araneae: Theridiidae) obtained in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil. This is the first record of this fly genus attacking a spider egg sac. The species Cladochaeta sororia (Williston, 1896) is recorded for the first time from Brazil, based on specimens collected in an urban garden in the Amazon. In addition, an unidentified female specimen of Cladochaeta Coquillett, 1900 was obtained from the cocoon of a spider wasp of the genus Notocyphus Smith (Hymenoptera: Pompilidae).

The first record of Ravinia almeidai (Lopes, 1946) is reported for the state of Bahia, northeast region of Brazil. The record of this fly species significantly contributes to the knowledge of sarcophagids from the northeast, as well as to the mapping of its distribution in the Brazilian territory.

Otatea, with 12 described species, is the second most diverse genus in the subtribe Guaduinae. Eleven species of Otatea occur in Mexico, of which 10 are endemic. The Mexican Otatea species grow in tropical dry forest, the ecotone between tropical dry forest and oak forest, cloud forest, humid oak-pine forest, and xerophilous scrubs. Here, we describe the synflorescence and flowers of Otatea nayeeri and O. transvolcanica, based on newly collected specimens and review of existing herbarium material. We present a key based on the flowering characters of the Mexican Otatea species, and provide expanded morphological descriptions and illustrations of O. nayeeri and O. transvolcanica. Otatea nayeeri and O. transvolcanica do not exhibit the gregarious monocarpic flowering pattern that has been recorded for other Otatea species. A flowering individual of O. transvolcanica was observed being visited by a Lasioglossum (Dialictus) sp. (Halictidae) bee. This is the first record for Otatea being visited by bees. The geographical distribution of O. nayeeri is extended northwards to the state of Durango in Mexico.

A new subspecies of Passiflora garckei (Passifloraceae) in Brazilian Amazon is described and illustrated. Furthermore, the lectotype of P. gardneri is herein designated and its geographical distribution is expanded to the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil.

During a survey of the microfungi associated with dead leaves of native plants in the State of Bahia, two species of Speiropsis were found: S. pedatospora Tubaki and S. scopiformis Kuthub. & Nawawi. Descriptions, illustrations, comments, geographical distribution and a compared table with taxonomic characteristics of the Speiropsis species are present. S. pedatospora is the first record for Brazil.
