In article the basic components of modern medial space are examined: heading and proper name. Authors emphasize that the heading in the modern Internet - newspaper text influences the reader and forces to pass under the reference to the publication which is interested by him. Besides it, the basic functions of heading and proper name as parts of the journalese text are analyzed. All theoretical moments of functioning onims in newspaper headings, authors of the article illustrate concrete examples. Researchers judge that proper name had in newspaper headings are used with a support on (background knowledge) reader that allows to draw quickly his attention to the publication.

According to the logic of the gendered modernity/tradition binary, women in traditional societies are oppressed and women in modern societies liberated. While the binary valorizes modern women, it potentially erases gendered oppression in the West and undermines feminist movements on behalf of Western women. Using U.S. newspaper text, I ask whether female genital cutting (FGC) is used to define women in modern societies as liberated. I find that speakers use FGC to both uphold and challenge the gendered modernity/tradition binary. Speakers use FGC to denigrate non-Western cultures and trivialize the oppressions that U.S. women typically encounter, but also to make feminist arguments on behalf of women everywhere. I argue that in addition to examining how culturally imperialist logics are reproduced, theorists interested in feminist postcolonialism should turn to the distribution of such logics, emphasizing the who, where, when, and how of reinscription of and resistance to such narratives.

This article provides a new methodology to predict armed conflict by using newspaper text. Through machine learning, vast quantities of newspaper text are reduced to interpretable topics. These topics are then used in panel regressions to predict the onset of conflict. We propose the use of the within-country variation of these topics to predict the timing of conflict. This allows us to avoid the tendency of predicting conflict only in countries where it occurred before. We show that the within-country variation of topics is a good predictor of conflict and becomes particularly useful when risk in previously peaceful countries arises. Two aspects seem to be responsible for these features. Topics provide depth because they consist of changing, long lists of terms that make them able to capture the changing context of conflict. At the same time, topics provide width because they are summaries of the full text, including stabilizing factors.

Political changes, occuring in any country, are directly related to the media, which, in turn, is responsible for the reliability of the disseminated information. Any text or article requires an appropriate heading. Publicistic headings, in comparison with artistic ones, are more informative and diverse, and their author should consider many factors, affecting them. A good heading should reveal the essence of the text as much as possible, and it should arouse a reader's interest as well. The paper also deals with the peculiarities of a newspaper text and a newspaper heading, which should be analyzed for a critical approach to the study of the researched object.
