According to the dominant view, the quality of individual scientific papers can be evaluated by the standard of the journal in which they are published. This paper attempts to demonstrate the limits of this view in the field of economics. According to our main findings, a publication frequently serves as a signal of high professional standards rather than as a source of information; referees and editors frequently reject good papers and accept bad ones; citation indices only partially balance the distortions deriving from the selection process; there are essential “entry costs” to the publication process. Moreover, financial interests of publishers may contradict scientific interests. As long as leading economists do not give voice to their dissatisfaction, there is no hope for any reform of the selection process.

Introduction. There has been limited discussion on Open Monograph Press (OMP) although its  potential is recognized to support academic publications in Indonesia. This is due to the lack of access to information and dissemination of OMP by academic publishers that have implemented OMP in their publication process. Data Collection Method. This paper used a qualitative approach by starting the elaboration publication process in Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (LIPI) Press. This paper examined how OMP-based online publishing system is able to accommodate book publishing process in LIPI Press. Primary data in this study was collected through records of the user interface of the online page of LIPI Press which uses OMP. Data Analysis. The data was analyzed by using  a descriptive-analytic approach. Results and Discussions. OMP is useful not only to accommodate all roles and processes of scientific publication but also to accommodate the publisher's need for a catalog website. OMP metadata can be indexed by Google Scholar and can be a helpful tool for product distribution. Conclusion. OMP is suggested to become a standard in publication process.

ABSTRACT This paper extends the self-reflections presented earlier in Stout (2016) to include some of the things I learned over the years in terms of publishing in accounting education. I offer these new reflections from the perspective of my experience over many years as an author, editor, and consumer of accounting education literature. I provide comments related to publishing instructional resources in accounting education (including educational cases) and to publishing research articles. I also offer general comments regarding publishing in accounting education, including comments as to the suitability (defensibility) of these scholarly pursuits. The manuscript complements other recent papers in the area by focusing more narrowly on the publication process in accounting education. The contents of this paper may be of interest to those wishing to enhance their publication potential in the field of accounting education.

Abstract Editors of several journals in the field of hydrology met during the General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union – EGU in Vienna in April 2017. This event was a follow-up of similar meetings held in 2013 and 2015. These meetings enable the group of editors to review the current status of the journals and the publication process, and to share thoughts on future strategies. Journals were represented at the 2017 meeting by their editors, as shown in the list of authors. The main points on invigorating hydrological research through journal publications are communicated in this joint editorial published in the journals listed here.
