The clinical picture of the case is quite ordinary: a distended urinary bladder, simulating a tumor, a highly elevated vaginal part of the uterine cervix and a stretched posterior vault with a pear-shaped uterus, pregnant for 3 months.

Identification of a Nonlinear Association between Components of the Electrohysterographical SignalElectrohysterography is a method for measuring of bioelectrical potentials generated by a contracting uterus. It is used for monitoring of uterine activities mainly during a pregnancy and for prediction of an upcoming pretermlabour. However, there is still unknown the best method of EHG analysis which gives clinically useful information about a uterine activity. To achieve this goal we propose to use information about nonlinear associations between EHG signals registered from an uterine fundus and an uterine cervix. The h2index was applied to identify these relationships. The obtained results reveal that there exists a nonlinear correlation between biopotentials generated from two parts of a pregnant uterus. Moreover, this correlation seems to be higher as a labour is upcoming. It suggests a possibility of using the h2index for prediction of an upcoming labour based on EHG signals.

Abstract We report the unusual case of a 78-year-old man who presented with obstructive bowel symptoms and a 2.5-cm presacral mass. The mass was excised and found on pathologic examination to be ectopic prostate tissue complete with a muscular stroma. Review of the literature revealed a number of case reports describing variably sized fragments of ectopic prostate tissue involving a variety of organs, including spleen, uterine cervix, bowel wall, pericolic fat, anal submucosa, seminal vesicle, testis, and urinary bladder. However, to our knowledge, this case is unique in that it presented as a relatively large, isolated presacral mass causing functional bowel impairment. The ectopic location can be related to the normal embryonic development of the prostate, rectum, and bladder.

The amphibian urinary bladder has been used as a ‘model’ system for studies of the mechanism of action of antidiuretic hormone (ADH) in stimulating transepithelial water flow. The increase in water permeability is accompanied by morphological changes that include the stimulation of apical microvilli, mobilization of microtubules and microfilaments and vesicular membrane fusion events . It has been shown that alterations in the cytosolic calcium concentrations can inhibit ADH transmembrane water flow and induce alterations in the epithelial cell cytomorphology, including the cytoskeletal system . Recently, the subapical granules of the granular cell in the amphibian urinary bladder have been shown to contain high concentrations of calcium, and it was suggested that these cytoplasmic constituents may act as calcium storage sites for intracellular calcium homeostasis. The present study utilizes the calcium antagonist, verapamil, to examine the effect of calcium deprivation on the cytomorphological features of epithelial cells from amphibian urinary bladder, with particular emphasis on subapical granule and microfilament distribution.

Protein kinase C (PKC) isozymes, when activated, are translocated to particulate membrane fractions for transport to the apical membrane surface in a variety of cell types. Evidence of PKC translocation was demonstrated in human megakaryoblastic leukemic cells, and in cardiac myocytes and fibroblasts, using FTTC immunofluorescent antibody labeling techniques. Recently, we reported immunogold localizations of PKC subtypes I and II in toad urinary bladder epithelia, following 60 min stimulation with Mezerein (MZ), a PKC activator, or antidiuretic hormone (ADH). Localization of isozyme subtypes I and n was carried out in separate grids using specific monoclonal antibodies with subsequent labeling with 20nm protein A-gold probes. Each PKC subtype was found to be distributed singularly and in discrete isolated patches in the cytosol as well as in the apical membrane domains. To determine if the PKC isozymes co-localized within the cell, a double immunogold labeling technique using single grids was utilized.

There are four lysosomal diseases of which the neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis is the rarest. The clinical presentation and their characteric abnormal ultrastructure subdivide them into four types. These are known as the Infantile form (Santavuori-Haltia), Late infantile form (Jansky-Bielschowsky), Juvenile form (Batten-Spielmeyer-Voght) and the Adult form (Kuph's).An 8 year old Omani girl presented wth myclonic jerks since the age of 4 years, with progressive encephalopathy, mental retardation, ataxia and loss of vision. An ophthalmoscopy was performed followed by rectal suction biopsies (fig. 1). A previous sibling had died of an undiagnosed neurological disorder with a similar clinical picture.
