Though the technologies are dynamically developing and there are a lot of research projects, there is still no general opinion on a glass-facade building among the European scientific community, architects and construction engineers. The increasing requirements to heat-protective qualities of translucent structures make us think of the necessity of a quantum leap both in technologies and in principal approaches to the development of architectural and constructive solutions of translucent shells. Together with economical features, the dynamics of heat-protective indicators’ increase show the tendencies to reaching the possibilities limits of mass glass units. The European construction practice usually solve this problem by developing sealed insulating glass units and by different conceptual solutions of the systems of translucent double facades. In the given article the basic theoretical principles and innovative engineering ideas are formulated dealing with the modern glass-facade building construction. “Green Building” conception is analyzed as a European new building philosophy.

In this paper, we analyze LEED and Green Standard, from macroscopic to microscopic views. We reveal the major way to promote green building construction, green building theory and the practice of exploration and innovation. Weight factor between LEED and Green Standard bears different roles and the roadmap of green building is illustrated.

In China the development pace of green building is becoming more and more fast. But there are many technical problems during the green building construction. The Library of Shandong Jiaotong University is the first case of green library building in China. The ecological implementation in the atrium is one of the important ecological strategies of the Library. While construction we encountered more technical problems, especially the contradiction between the natural ventilation, natural lighting and fire safety. In this article based on the atrium technology design of the green building and combined the practice of the atrium some strategies realizing natural lighting, natural ventilation in the fire safety, applicable, economy and art.are summarized in detail. It is the aim to give some references and to promote the green building implementation.

There are severe issues for the deficiency of affordable house for low-income earners in developing countries such as Nigeria. The high cost of conventional materials has been established to be one the major factors that heightened the cost of building in recent times. However the integration of green building materials that are relevant and sustainable for building construction in the present dispensation will provide excellent solutions to overcome high price of construction. The study was carried out on all the available green materials in north-central Nigeria. Surveyed instrument was prepared and distributed to building professional experts that are registered member of various professional bodies in the building sector. Four hundred questionnaires were distributed in the north-central zone. Three hundred five questionnaires that were filled correctly was used for the data analyses. Analysis of moments (AMOS) software through the structural equation model (SEM) was used to analysis and generated a model for the study. The result discloses that earth bricks, stone/rocks, timber, Bamboo, thatches, straw fibre, and rice husk are very relevant green materials that can be used to achieve affordable building construction. Therefore, the use and integration of green materials in building construction will produce low cost housing units
