Today complications during drilling and operation of oil and gas wells are unavoidable. Most of them are the result of violation of technological discipline (technology), some are due to insufficient knowledge of geological and physical conditions (especially in exploratory drilling), a lack of understanding of the causes of the phenomena preceding the complication. Sometimes performers in performing complex technological operations go to the so-called “justified” risk, as a result of which complications and accidents occur. It should be taken into account that the failure of the well even for a short time - the loss of oil and gas production. Therefore, the development of modern methods for their detection, prevention (prevention) and methods to combat their consequences is an urgent task.

Several heterogeneous, intelligent, and distributed devices can be connected to interact with one another over the Internet in what is termed internet of things (IoT). Also, the concept of IoT can be exploited in the industrial environment for enhancing the production of goods and services and for mitigating the risk of disaster occurrences. This application of IoT for enhancing industrial production is known as industrial IoT (IIoT). Emergent configuration (EC) is a technology that can be adopted to enhance the operation and collaboration of IoT connected devices in order to improve the efficiency of the connected IoT systems for maximum user satisfaction. To meet user goals, the connected devices are required to cooperate with one another in an adaptive, interoperable, and homogeneous manner. In this paper, a survey of the concept of IoT is presented in addition to a review of IIoT systems. The application of ubiquitous computing-aided software define networking (SDN)-based EC architecture is propounded for enhancing the throughput of oil and gas production in the maritime ecosystems by managing the exploration process especially in emergency situations that involve anthropogenic oil and gas spillages.

The existence of gas hydrates is well known in the oil and gas production industry. The components are dominated by methane and naturally occur in deep marine sediment along continental margins. Although hydrates may be of potential benefi t both as a hydrocarbon resource and as a mean of storing and transmitting natural gas, traditionally their presence is considered to be an operational and a safety problem. They can form at the pressures and temperatures found in natural gas and oil pipelines causing blockages, especially when temperature falls signifi cantly, such as when closing in a well or fl owing gas through a choke. This could deliver a serious potential problem for oil and gas offshore production either for its equipment or personnel. Besides the variation of gas rate to avoid hydrates forming, currently there are two methods that have been used widely to prevent hydrates formation in production pipelines - thermal insulation and chemical inhibitor. Each method has its own benefits. PIPESIM software application can be used to evaluate both mitigation methods and to then fi nd which is the best scenario based on lowest cost, shortest period of application and less adversity.
